But then why not if getting mobbed and stripped by gals in New York during a recent world tour was any indication of how popular one is, Aditya Narayan would top the list. All of 21, he has not only achieved what most only strive to, but what sets him apart is his matter of fact attitude with which he takes success. In town recently, to promote the show he anchors, Aditya Narayan talks to us...
What's your opinion of the audience here?
Every performer craves for an audience that's all charged up and gets rowdier as they watch the artiste perform. I love an unabashed no-holds-barred audience and that's what I find here in Lucknow. It gives me a different high!
Your show has been on air for ages now. How do you match up to the competition?
We don't have to be different, we set the trend for all the other shows to follow. SA RE GA MA PA is the first talent hunt show on TV which still maintains its very high standards. On no other show will you find judges and guests who're stalwarts like Asha Bhonsle, Ghulam Ali Saheb, Sonu bhaiya, Suresh Wadekarji, Khayyam or other big names like Shankar Mahadevan, Himesh or Pritam. On other shows, if I may take the liberty to say so, all those rejected on our show, are picked up by other channels.
So, how do you control when your numero uno judges get into skirmishes on air?
See, no one is professionally frustrated that they have to harbour personal rivalry against each other. But yeah in the heat of the moment things may be said but that's not carried further. I have a great relationship with everybody on the show as I have known then since I was four years old. So agar main kuch keh bhi deta hoon or have the audacity to reprimand anyone of them, they will never take it to heart.
You are all set to make your Bollywood debut. How's it like?
It's going to be with Vikram Bhatt's forthcoming film, wherein I play the lead with two leading ladies. I will also sing all my songs in the film. It's an adventure film. I opted to debut with this only because it was a Vikram Bhatt film and the script was not the routine types.
Why did you wait so long to debut?
I was getting offers since I was 19, but I was not ready then. I know what I am capable of. I can't be a Krissh or a super hero. I've seen Shah Rukh sleep on a khatiya after working for 20 hours and seen Salman Khan slog it out too. So, I realised that until I was ready to put in such hardwork, it would be foolhardy to take on films.
How does it feel being a darling of so many girls?
It feels good. Many people would want such things to happen to them too so I can understand how lucky I am.
Have you found your girl?
With girls giving me so much attention, I'd thought I would surely meet the girl of my dreams, but it has not happened yet. Please tell everyone I am single and ready to mingle. Till then I am content being in a relationship with my work.
