^^ Rafi could not sing all the songs that were composed those days.. 😛

for me, both Kishore and Rafi can not be matched or compared with any singers that were there those days or even now..

yes, Sonu Nigam comes close.. but Rafi and Kishore were something altogether.. that's just my pov..

Are you trying to compare Rafi saab and Pt Bhimsen Joshi there😆?

Rafisaab is perhaps the best singer Hindi Film Industry produced till date, but he wasnt even the best classical (male)singer in the Hindi Film Industry, he was the best package that was there, but in classical he was always second choice to Manna Da, and Manna da is also not close to Pt Bhimsen Joshi. Even by Mannada's own admissions he was very reluctant to sing along with Pt ji in Ketaki Gulab and that too in a lead singer role, since the limitations in classical singing are exposed very easily when you are singing next to the best.

Having said that I feel Rafisaab was perhaps the best singer that was there in Hindi film industry, much better than Kishoreda, no disrespect, except for the yoddling anything that Kishoreda could do Rafisaab could do better and could sing even a wider variety of songs. When you talk about singers of that calibre, you tend to get into versatality and that is where Rafisaab was better and the classical knowledge gave him the edge there(Of course IMO). The only reason we can even compare them is b'cos of Panchamda

Both were legends and great. Rafi was the example to emulate by all musicians.

Shankar (of the Shankar-Jaikishen duo) came up to Manna Dey one day in the year 1955 and asked him to sing a rather heavily classical song for a film directed by Shashi Bhushan (Bharat Bhushan's brother). This was a 'competition song', i.e. a song in which there was a competition between the hero (Bharat Bhushan) and another person which the hero eventually won. Manna Dey had to sing for Bharat Bhushan and win the contest. But Manna Dey nearly missed a heartbeat when he heard whom he had to 'beat'. It was Pandit Bhimsen Joshi. He went home and told his wife "Let's run away somewhere. This is an impossible job."

Was just thinking who in the current crop of SRGM singers can give it a shot...

IMHO we can see even Manna da fading in front of Bhimsen Joshi here.
