Today watching the epi I realised why I found this serial so different. When Veenaji was demanding that Sanchi explain to her how she was going to turn the truth of her marital status into a lie, it hit me suddenly that Sanchi is probably the first SP female lead that constantly relies in the strength of her lies.
All the other SP heroines never seem to waive from the truth. For them the biggest strength that they have in their constant battles is that they are the truthful ones. Therefore in SP world they are in the right. But does being honest automatically make you a righteous person?
Look at Indu and Sanchi for example, Indu more often than not is always forthright and honest in all aspects of his life, yet just because is honest in doing what he says he is, doesn't make his deeds any less cruel, mean and just plain wrong.
Sanchi on the other hand in almost every other epi, seems to be shown lying and manipulating situations to get what she wants. Still nevertheless just because she lied that doesn't mean that her actions aren't still, worthwhile, positive or dare I say just.
I'm not saying that Sanchi is a just a lying saint, and that Indu happens to be a honest demon, but it just goes to show that being truthful doesn't always mean that you are righteous good person.
For me atm the show is coming to a battle between Indu and Sanchi, and oddly for once we the viewers are expected to support a lie, we should want Sanchi to use all her cunning and manipulations, to knock the brutally honest Indu off his pedestal. We should want her to prove the truth of her marriage into a lie.
But what will really win in the end? Will Sanchi's lies overcome the power of Indu's truth? Sanchi as a character is hard to like or relate with sometimes, as she plots and manipulates so much. It's actually quiet tiring and annoying to see her always rely upon her lies and tricks to get her out of trouble. Especially when she seems too ignorant to realise that her one lie seems to lead her on to a path of telling a thousand lies! Yet she grows in strength with every lie she tells, her pride and sense of self-belief increases. She is a fighter, that knows how to play to dirty, and more importantly she is a fighter who is out to win.
Indu on the other hand, has always had the saving grace of being an honest character. Even when he wed Sanchi he told her straight, this marriage in a punishment for you, and never expect anything from me in the role of a husband. Plus in yesterday's epi, he told her directly I put those posters up. Indu has always been truthful to Sanchi, and that is his biggest strength. He knows that he is honest, and therefore he believes that makes him a good, honourable person. Yes he is cruel and yes he hurts people, but I bet anyone he hurts can't say he didn't warn them first not to cross him. Does that make what he does any less worse? Of course not, but you can't take the fact that he is fair in this world of gundagiri and politics away from him either.
Sanchi's lies are sweet, seductive and let's face it we could all use a lie like hers at some point in our lives! For example when she helps save the pensioner' officers son's life, or when she helped Tarachand escape the clutches' of the evil Tiwaris without giving up the property papers. But still there's a point where she has to realise that if she's going to base her power upon the strength of her lies then she has failed miserably in life. As we all know, that sooner or later the truth will and must come out. In other words her lies will be caught out, and more likely than not as in the case of Veenaji's fake suicide she will pay the price for being so foolish, as to think that such a weak foundation will support her.
Indu's truth is brutal, harsh and sometimes plain destructive. It wreaks havoc as it shatters people's illusions, and packs a powerful punch too. His truth can also be harmful without him meaning it to be. For example the fact that he loved Sanchi lead to all this turmoil, if had just denied it to Prabal during the poster scandal, then half this mess wouldn't have happened. Yet Indu seems to see lying as a shameful thing, especially when he believes he has done no wrong. Then again Indu must realise like all SP heroines that sometimes the truth isn't enough. Or more importantly that different people have different ways of seeing the truth. He saw and believed that he loved Sanchi and she in turn spurned and betrayed him. But he could never see what Sanchi saw. A man that tortured and attempted to force her to love him.
Any way I ramble on, and I really apologise for hijacking this post! But I'm ending this, by wondering what and who the CV's will show triumphing at the end of this Indu vs. Sanchi battle. Will Sanchi's sweet lies defeat Indu's brutal truth?
Logically we know it has to be our female lead Sanchi that wins, but can we as the audience really digest the fact that she lied and schemed her way to victory?
Still maybe Sanchi will win the battle of the elections, and gain the students respect, but still lose the battle for her heart, as she willingly gives it to the man she falls in love with. Her greatest enemy, and husband Indu. And wouldn't that be fun to see?
