I think from the way things are going, the makers are trying to explain why Ratan still needs a protector in the form of Diya. It's not only about physical protection, it's about protecting Ratan from his foes as he gets ready to step up to his responsibilities. Also, she's trying to preserve his culture and father's legacy.
Besides protecting him, I think she is there to help him prepare for the real world. Ratan has always been shielded all his life. He may not be used to the concept of handling family dynamics and others bad intentions. Most importantly, he has never realised that he's in danger. With Diya's help, he's supposed to learn of the danger he is and become more cautious and mindful of others around him and learn how to navigate these dangers. I think Ratan's journey is about finding this mature and responsible side of him, while still retaining his carefreeness and joy about life.

What do you all think?

i completely agree with you. its not about how strong a person is. even if the person is intelligent and strong enough to protect themselves , they are in grave danger if they are not well aware of the things happening around. r
I really appreciate writers to come up with something in this way instead of making ratan stupid just to show diya strong.
may be in further episodes, we may see diya making him understand how to handle business and we will get lots of DiRa scenes.😊
