Just before pushing the keys in the door lock he heard something. Something different his senses alert 24 X 7 X 365 told him something was bizarrely wrong. He quickly swallowed the desire to knock and just then the door flung open. Instinctively he jumped out of the way into the corridor to avoid a possible direct shot. All he was met was with a ringing laughter.

"Tarini that was not funny. You should have atleast told me you were coming."

"Chill Anurag wanted to be with you tonight."

"You have another assignment?"

"Yes" she replied sheepishly and giving him water while he settled in his leather couch.

"No problem."

"I learnt today that Ananya has been following this story about Medical college scam. She is all set to go herself under cover to CMO's home. I am sure you must know about it but I have an ill feeling about it. The CMO is hands in glove with the highest level ministers and stinging him could sting her."

"How do you know about her plan? Any other details?" He said rising up and facing the French window looking out towards the city. He clearly tried to hide his frustration from Tarini. He was a little concerned about how much was out in the open. Ananya was working on something much more deep rooted and medical college was just a cover up.

"The CMO has been summoned by the Sit for an appearance and would be interrogated this Monday. I got this information from my resources in the court. Ananya's phone is tapped and I doubt she knows it. There are people who know about her plan and I fear it could be a trap." Kabir was now beyond worried. Ananya was sharp and had the intelligence to judge her chances but what if she was being trapped as she had been following this story passionately. This entire story would give their TRP's a huge soar. Tarini gave him further details of all the people who knew about Ananya's plan. Kabir immediately tried calling her but her phone was off. He tried her other number but that went to answering machine directly. He was now excessively worried. This girl would someday spell his own doom. He was though ok with it as long as she remained safe.

"He is going to have a meeting with the Health minister secretly at his own place. Looks like Health Minister will be meeting him without his SPG security."

"I don't see it likely if we know about it then I am certain many others would know about it too including people aiming at the minister's life. Too much risk."

"Will let you know if I get any more info. This meeting is tomorrow." She said thinking and processing all the broken bits of info she had.

"OK."

"I had ordered some dinner so pay for it."

"What is this assignment that you are going for?" He suddenly asked "is Mahendra aware?"

"Yes they are going to raid the residential area today in Chandini Chauk area for some arms deal racket."

"Can I hope to get the full story?"

"I am a free lancer. All you have to do is pay."

"How does 500K sound."

"Perfect this story would be worth every bit."

"I know that is why I asked." He said hugging Tarini "stay safe, though I am sure you are in safe hands."

Kabir called Laxman and after having a quick talk with him he knew quite well what was going on. He smiled, pride evident in it. The otherwise blunt looking Ananya was way sharp than many accomplished reporters. She had spread her own trap with such finesse that he desperately wanted to see the drama unfold. Her only drawback was she was given to recklessness. There was a buzz at the door and their dinner was delivered. As he was about to pay the bill, the delivery boy said it was already paid by the madam down stairs. Kabir rounded his lips to a perfect OH and took a crumpled bill looking at it with disdain and then curiosity. Closing the door he looked at it both ways and there was something scribbled on it.

"Sir the plan this time is perfect with a backup and an escape plan drawn to the last detail. Hope I will not disappoint you. Try not to fret and have faith in me. I know you don't trust God."

"I do trust you but I am scared. I will hold tight, though for you Ananya."

Ananya was not in office the entire next day. While Kabir missed her but ironically Malvika felt her absence the most. Kabir left a message for her a few times but she did not respond. He had asked her to set up a follow me app on her mobile and the tracker showed no change in her position. He was getting anxious. ...

...

It was around 11 at night when he opened his house doors to a beaming Ananya. Even before she could utter a word he pulled her in a crushing embrace, relieved that she was unharmed.

"What happened? Where were you I was at the brink of calling Khurana and revealing him the whole thing. You could have at least dropped me a message." He was literally whining.

"I am glad you did not do that. I have nearly got million buck footage. Lets go through it" A good story could be all that a reporter sought Kabeer and Ananya were no different.

"You were not tailed or any thing."

"Nope. More over this is bloody murder and I have already forwarded a copy to opposition and CJI as you said."

"Fantastic, when did you do it?"

"An hour..." Kabir's phone buzzed breaking the calmness of the room.

"You get your first call." Ananya said brimming with excitement.

"Kabir Sharma...Yes sir...We are still in the process of verification of the footage and information...yes sir cant assure what time tomorrow...no sir I cannot...I did my best I could I handed the footage over to you. Telecasting it without verification I will not be able to do that sir. It will take time...Sir you cannot threaten me with that...we are journalists sir and if we can provide opposition with some fuel so can we do for the Government. No one is without a blot in this era sir...I would say give us time at least till the lunch. I will inform you of our stance the minute we take a decision..." Kabir hung the up and was now facing Ananya with full attention.

" So we bought todays breaking news?"

"It was sensational and Tarini had done the entire story very well."

"I know, just curious is she seeing the SP Mahendra?" Kabirs silence to Ananya's query more than cleared her doubts.

"Do you think he is an appropriate partner for Tarini?" There was concern ringing clearly in her tone.

"Yeh jo raita faila hua hai pehle issko sametein. Tarini aaj nahi shadi kar rahi."

"SHadi???? Inki baat shadi tak bhi pahunch gayi aur apna dekho." Kabir looked at her as if she had just grown two horns on her head and one on nose.

"Don't look at me like as if I were a Rhino." Kabir averted his eyes from her face. She some how was always able to resonate his thoughts.

"Work comes first." Kabir reminded her of the impending footage review.

"Why don't we go to office and work there?"

"Secrecy my dear." He said.

"Secrecy ? half of the world knows it already."

After some more banter they sat down to review the footage. It was no less than a nuclear bomb. This footage would annihilate the government in the coming elections. The CMO had had an eventful day. The HMS personal secretary had visited the CMO with a bag full of Money as a price to keep the name of HM out of his deposition. Ananya had somehow broken through the servant quarters of the CMO and HM both. She had actually got the HM's bedroom too wired. His phones were recorded and so was it for the CMO. What Tarini had felt as a trap for her was actually a diversion for them.

"Minister sahib ne bheja hai" Kabir heard it so many times in a loop. The PS telling the CMO when giving him the bag.

"By any chance do we have a footage of the HM handing over this bag to the PS."

"Yes sir."

"You do!!!Are their houses still wired?"

"I sure do. Oh not atall sir. It is all clear now."

"SO as they say the maids know every thing and the maids killed it here." Kabir said looking at her with a lot of affection. She had really out done herself this time.

"I will go now."

"At this hour? You should stay back. Moreover it is not safe to go alone."

"I have been invisible throughout this entire buildup and shooting of the footage sir. I don't underestimate any one but I will not be the target for now. I need my beauty sleep."

"Atleast have dinner with me." Kabir said trying to avoid her gaze. She had not once addressed him by his name meant she was upset.

"No sir I am full. Remember that really heavy snack that day."

It took all of Kabir's muscular strength to keep his lips in a straight line.

"What can I do to remedy that?" He asked earnestly though he knew that it was a lost cause nothing that he could do would pacify Ananya for now.

"I will take your leave." Ananya said and turned to go.

"Ruko to Ananya."

"Jee Sir." she turned to face him and the look of her face clearly implied that she was in no mood to indulge her boyfriend at all.

"Yaar we are meeting after a whole day more than 24 hours. How can you be so indifferent?" Kabir tried to behave like a lovelorn teenager mewling in front of his beloved"

"Sir that was pretty cheesy, besides it can also amount to Indecent gestures. Don't make me evoke Vishakha guidelines sir" Kabir's eyes reduced to slits on hearing this and his lips curved in a crooked lopsided smile. She very well knew that this was a charge against him that his Ex-wife had also levied. Since he had told his past to her, this was umpteenth time that she taunted him with this. When she had done it the first time Kabir had felt as if she had given his heart a maiming blow. It took a minute on his part to understand the hidden mirth in it. This is what he absolutely admired about her. She was not a timid teenager with a heaving heart or a romanticist. "Zeher se zeher kata jaata hai" She used to say quite often. She was a hard core realist and believed in keeping her feet grounded. She had a temper to match and boy could she hold and nurse a grudge till infinity. Her repeated one liners about his past still put him off but he had started taking it better than before. He nodded thought fully as if giving her permission to go.

"Fear is a feeling that is always associated with you, I am either scared for you or of you." He said to her retreating figure.

"Don't worry this shall also pass." With this he heard the click of the door.
