Kabir just felt like smashing his iPhone. His brain was agitated to receive calls from Malavika again and again. He was helpless in his office. After all, owners' daughter. But what right she has to disturb his night as well? Yes, there is one way to stop his irritation. But that is like inviting troubles for his girl. He had to choose between frying pan and the fire.
It ringed again. He decided to let it ring. It stopped immediately. He realised, it was a text message. His brain had stopped working to make out a difference. He went to switch off the iPhone. That was the only way, he can stop this irritating piece from disturbing his sleep.
When he was about to switch off, he realised the text was from Ananya. His feelings over the phone changed instantly. He looked at the darling cute piece in his palm affectionately. It read "Have you slept off?". He replied.
"Not getting sleep yet", he got response in no time.
"What are you watching?". He was a bit taken aback. Did she mean? Was it just an innocent question? In anyway, he decided to tease her.
"Something, you may not feel comfortable watching or sharing". He did not get any reply for couple of minutes. He thought, he went too far.
"I just meant, I was watching an 80 year old song from K. L. Saigal. You are responsible for your imaginations", tried doing damage control.
Reply came immediately. "I had gone to drink water. Uncomfortable to watch what? Come on, I have recorded many". His jaws dropped. Next came the text.
"Bhajans and Kirtans..." He realised, his girl friend always goes a step ahead in teasing.
"Actually, I have taken retirement from many things which are not related to my work". Somehow his mood swing from naughtiness to seriousness. But his girl knew how to divert it back.
"Does not seem so, from your behaviour with other females" came the reply.
"True. Malavika is waiting in room. Can I leave?" Whenever Kabir found her jealous, he liked to ignite her more.
"Malavika! 😡 Should I take a cab and come?" Kabir chuckled, reading her reply.
"You know, I have lost interest in hiding. Whatever I do, I do it openly. Also mind it, those acts are related with my work", he reminded her.
"Oh, really? When you confessed your love ... you had left your official assignment. Secondly, your act was not in open". She was not ready to accept her defeat.
"Wooing you was actually a part of professional requirement. Presentation could have been delivered by any. But I had to retain an efficient reporter. Second, I romanced you in open office. Just that people were not present". He wanted to win the argument by hook or crook. He wanted to rejoice these small winnings. The major battle he had lost anyway, when he surrendered himself to her.
"By the way, what was that song?", the message read.
"Which song?", he got confused.
"The one you claimed to be listening", reply came instantly. He was royally checkmated.
"So what, if we have never listened to his song? There is always a first time"
He searched for the Saigal's song and played it, Soja Rajakumari soja ..., mobile stopped beeping. May be she fell asleep. He looked at the phone, lying on his pillow longingly. He wished, it was her face. But for the moment, he has to sleep alone.
