There is change in Rudra's characterization itself. He has mellowed down after his confession of his love gradually. He is totally a changed man after his son came into his life. You can see that he started smiling more often since that mangalsutra part. Since smiling is not what we used to see in Rudra,it feels that its different from Rudra. This has noting to do with Ashish's acting. Even in JDJ he is praised for his expression and acting more than his dancing. You can see Madhuri repeating it often. Not only Rudra no one was in their right character for the past week. Episodes were rushed without breathing space. Yes JDJ is effecting him(his face looks tired and sleepy in many scenes). But his acting is spot on as always. Its purely my opinion.Originally posted by: shabnammm3
First, I'd like to commend you on your courage to make a post on this topic at this particular point in time, especially considering how emotionally charged everyone is at the moment. Doubt that you'll find many takers though since most everyone is too grief stricken to be able to distance themselves from the characters objectively. Which is totally understandable if you have just lost a loved character.
Secondly, and more to the point, I would have to say that I agree with you to a great extent. I too felt distinctly underwhelmed by Ashish's performance today. I have always admired Ashish for his ability to not only convey Rudra's emotions, but also to make us, the viewers, feel those emotions. In today's episode however, I was left feeling quite underwhelmed, especially in the funeral pyre scene like you pointed out, as well as in the entire post 7 year leap scene. His eyes, which I feel are the most emotive part of his face, just did not have that intensity that I expected.
Rudra and Paro... they were not just any other married couple in love...at least that's not I perceived them these last few months. Rudra and Paro were two halves of one soul... when Paro died, I did not imagine Rudra as sad or sorrowful. No. A hundred times no. I imagined Rudra Devastated. Wrecked. Shattered.
I did not see that.
Ashish's expression at the pyre...it was just not in keeping with Rudra. It was a very diluted form of Rudra for me. Frankly, he looked more torn apart at the train station when he thought Paro was leaving him. When he jumped on the tracks and yelled "Main Mar Jaoonga!"Later, when he looks at Paro's portrait and wishes internally that they could have raised their child together, the emotions on his face were so...well, lukewarm.
I have always admired how Ashish managed to get deep into the skin of Rudra's character. How Ashish stopped existing, and was only Rudra when he came on screen. He breathed, lived and thought Rudra. I forgot there was a Ashish. I only saw Rudra.Lately, however, there seems to have been some relaxing of that tight control. I have felt that in a few episodes over the last few weeks, not just todays. Today, I saw Ashish in those scenes.I think, and this is my own opinion of course, that due to the exigencies of giving divided time to RR because of his commitments to JDJ, Ashish has somehow become somewhat emotionally distanced, marginally maybe but still noticeably, from Rudra's character. It happens. There's nothing unexpected about it. There is a difference in being committed 100 percent to one project, and striving to juggle two equally important (to him) roles. It is but natural that one or the other would suffer. However much he might be willing to work hard, which he is. There is no doubt about that. But then work does suffer. There is no doubt about that either.

I think it seemed that way because the CVs rushed it so that they could start this Myrah track.
Half of me is relieved though because if we saw more of Rudra grieving, I wouldn't be able to take it.
I agree. I won't blame Ashish completely for it though...he was doing what the director asked him to do. Nowhere did it feel that Rudra lost the thing most precious to him. Considering his obsession with Paro,I expected him to show a more volatile reaction
