Hello everyone,

I've just started watching the show and came up with this short OS. Enjoy!

Clarion Call

She was looking at the door anxiously. It had been nearly a week since he had left on a mission and earlier today Aman's call had buoyed her spirits. Major Rudra Ranawat was coming home. She looked down at her bright red ghaghra and blue dupatta fluttering in the breeze. Strangely enough the weather seemed to have gotten better with a dip in the temperature. Dilsher was in his room resting after a delicious meal of rajma chawal and paneer parathas. "Special feast for the returning warrior?" His sly remark accompanied with a gentle smile at the blushing girl was bang on target.

Parvati Ranawat loved to cook, sew and do all the 101 things that girls in her village had been taught from a young age. A natural flair for dancing made her nimble on her feet and stop people in their tracks as she glided past them. Her beauty was mesmerizing yet gentle that soothed the harshest of wounds and gladdened the hardest of hearts. Rudra had met her when he had been on a "mission" and by a quirk of fate ended up marrying her. The forced marriage (on his part) had led to an uneasy truce between the couple when they moved to his ancestral home.

Dilsher had welcomed her with open arms and indulged her at the slightest pretext. Rudra watched warily as his father bonded with the beautiful girl in their house. Slowly yet insidiously she made her presence felt in the old haveli with her endearing ways and soft words. The servants followed their new mistress as she firmly instructed them in their responsibilities. As long as Rudra got his paneer parathas and other aromatic dishes that she came up with every day he didn't care. Of course she made sure his uniforms and shirts were neatly ironed and the house looked inviting and clean at every corner. The accidental touches or the shy glances in the beginning had him flustered but he was a master at disguising his feelings.

The day before he had left for the border they had had a fight. For the first time the Ranawat haveli heard raised voices coming from the bedroom of the master. It began with a handkerchief that she had found accidentally in his cupboard. As she had placed his ironed shirts inside the cupboard, the strong perfume that reeked from the corner had her curiosity aroused. The white handkerchief with the flowers embroidered in one corner had the letter L intertwined in the design. It smelled of attar and deceit. Was Rudra cheating on her?

"What are you doing there?" Her husband's gruff voice startled her. Wordlessly she picked up the handkerchief and showed it to him. Her eyes were brimming wit tears while he shifted uncomfortably.

"Woh...this is an old one. I didn't even know about it..."

She continued to stare at him with pained eyes.

Paro, this is not what you're thinking...Laila was my past, you are my present and future.

The words stayed at the back of his throat refusing to come out. Verbal communication or lack of had always been a problem with Rudra. The inevitable rush of anger drowned out his senses and patience flew out of the window.

"Keep it back, throw it away. I don't care anyway. Now just leave..."

She walked out quietly trying to assimilate what had happened just now. She had been patient. From what Dilsher had told her about Rudra's childhood she knew the wounds would take a while to heal. But she had faith in her Bholenath and time was a great healer. When he left shortly with an apologetic look at her from the doorway she didn't say a word. She took the thali and did a quick arati for his safe return. He blinked in surprise at the sudden gesture and turned away when Aman called out for him from the jeep.

Paro...Paro....When she heard the soft whisper now her body throbbed with excitement. She could barely restrain herself from running into his arms.

When she looked up she thought she heard the sound of the temple bells ringing. Then it dawned on her. His tired eyes betrayed his feelings and reflected her own. The warrior had finally responded to the call of her heart.
