I usually don't write posts...but I am feeling a little adventurous..so thought of writing one for Rangrasiya...especially since it seems to have caught my imagination completely...
I kept thinking what was so unique in this show that I am hooked in just a couple of episodes...was it the film like feel...or the presence of Sanaya (whom I adore)...or was I just bored...I think it's the promise of a good story...The producers, the channel and the actors ...all seem to be raving about this extraordinary story...their excitement and fear is evident in all their interviews...I was pleased to see the excitement...but the fear attracted me more...I thought it was supposed to be a Guns and Roses or Beauty and beast kindof story..(so original right..*rolling eyes*)...so why is everyone telling us that Rudra aka Othelo is more unique than other anti-heros out there..n apparently they have multiple grey characters in this story...n the only obvious white is Paro...So I felt like keeping a tab on the characters they have and the shades of grey that each of them is supposed to possess...
Paro - the untainted, innocent but traumatized angel...
She is this typical small town girl...who runs behind butterflies, sings silly jingles and plays with dolls to amuse herself...but her world turned upside down when her parents are killed by these beastly BSD officers. When her parents were killed she was too young or naive to understand what soul means to a body or the fact that they were dead before they were cremated. But her mind has morphed this memory into a nightmare which combines both fire and the BSD officer. ( the reasons for her parents death)...even though she understands that fire wasn't the cause of her parents death...the thought doesn't leave her sub conscience and she remains traumatized by it till date...But, even when this aspect ate at her since the time of her parents death, another aspect of her personality blossomed as well...she is so pure of heart that she can't see any one else in pain...their pain calls out to her and she is ready to remedy their pain with her most priced possessions as well..This was very well depicted by the way she threw her fav doll to an unknown boy or the way she ran to help a hurt camel...
Rudra - Still waters run deep...
He is in pain from the very first frame he was part of ...his mother ran away ...leaving him behind with his father who probably never connected with him before...they haven't explored the father -son relationship much...but I assume it's the typical kind...where they don't talk to each other much..but they love and respect each other...hence his father is able to read the pain his son is in...but instead of being affectionate and pampering his son...the father decides to strengthen him by warning him against all of female kind. The words of advice he has given to Rudra..were mostly the driving force while he was growing up..."Beautiful women aren't loyal to anyone...not to their fathers or their husbands or even their children"...They haven't showed us much about Rudra yet...but the 1st episode makes a few things clear...1 - he has grown up seeing betrayal of the biggest degree...a women who should have loved him unconditionally has betrayed him and his father...2 - he has craved that love for and not got any since the day his mom left. So, here's a traumatized child who hasn't had any pampering to get over the pain...n somewhere down the lane he decided to join the armed forces to deal with his anger and protect his mother (i.e. his country) from people who want to harm her or betray her. Till now we have seen just a small glimpse of this extremely complex character...so lets wait a little and explore him more as the various layers of the onion are peeled...
Paro's Mama Mami
They seem to care a lot about Paro and seem to love her as their own daugther. Obviously, after the death of Paro's parents they have taken full responsibility for her and have given her a good childhood and have brought her up properly. They were the medicine that has healed the conscious traumas from Paro's mind...but the sub-conscious ones still remain...
Paro's Cousin Sister
She must have been a pillar of strength and support for yound Paro...but it looks like she is married now..n has gone to the other side of the border...more on her when her character is introduced further..
Rudra's father
A disabled man who has been slighted by his wife. To top it his son seems to miss his mom a lot, thus rubbing salt to his injury. He tries to make his son feel better...even though it seems harsh and heartless...he is doing what he knows is best for his son...and thus he advices him to "Forget the ungrateful women and move forward...not eating or being angry all the time won't bring her back...she is gone for ever..."...not sure if they'll go into his relationship with Rudra anymore...but the one scene they showed us summed it up very well
Thakur
The godfather of the village...he does a lot of good for the village...like giving free education to kids and sponsoring the wedding of a bride and sponsoring the pilgrimage of the elderly ..but he that's just a facade...his real intentions are hidden...this is another "grey" character like they promised. Lets wait and watch the various shades he will portray...
Thakurain
The quintessential mother of the village...all grey characters need a balancing beige character to maintain the ying yang...i think she will be a positive character...she might be aware of her husbands bad doings ...but i doubt she is part of any of it...anyways she looks like a positive character...lets see if that true...
Birpur - The Village
Unlike most stories...here the location plays a very important role in the story...it is this small village on the border of India and Pakisthan and technically lies on the Indian side...but the Thakur has convinced the village that India isn't good for them and has poisoned the villagers against the BSD...It doesn't help that BSD kills civilians on suspicion...but this very volatile location holds many secrets within her...which will unravel as the story moves forward...
Well, these were the main characters till now...its just been 2 days ...so there many of the characters haven't been explored or introduced yet...but I still wanted to write them up...let me know how you liked it...I am not a good communicator...so not sure if I conveyed my points appropriately...but hopefully you'll forgive me for any mistakes. I am eager to hear your opinions on the various characters...
