Shaan: aur kuch?
Khanak: Aur ek aur baat, who jo mujhe poori raat soney dete hain
She can feel a nibble on her neck, her black beads are moistening slowly

Khanak: he had a tennis game at the Towers

She blushes a deep red as the other women begin to tease her.
They are rowdy, loud and talk in fast Punjabi, she is trying to learn some words, but its hard at this pace.
They ask if she can speak now, she shakes her head shyly
Dadi: My fave lil girl will be your Punjabi tutor next year, that's how smart she is. (declares proudly)
Dadi starts the story, they pass the plates around and sing and listen to the narration.
Bai and Aada could not make it as Dadi was unwell so sent money for the Madhavi's gift. A modest sum of Rs.20,000. Dadi had been touched, Madhavi was impassive
Khanak covertly checks the door each time Hari Lal answers the bell.
When they are done with the story its past 8:30, they troop to the terrace to look for the moon
The younger women are hungry and tired, the older ones have more resilience and are used to the drill.
The men join too

The night is breezy and cool, no sign of the moon though, 8 PM slides to 9, Khanak starts to feel hunger pangs, wants to sit down'.
Dadi: Beta, are you OK
Khanak: I am fine Dadi... (smiles)
Dadi: Shaan ko phone kar lo
Khanak: Jee Bhayya ne kiya hai abhi
The men are eating and drinking and its like a block party on the terrace.
9: 22 PM
The man walks up to the terrace freshly showered and in jeans and a orange tee
His eyes search for her and it meets under the star spangled sky
Shaan: hey!
Dadi starts beating up on him "Where HAVE you been Shaan?"
Shaan: Dadi I had a game!
Dadi: And she is starving for YOU!
Her husband is shocked "Khanak?"
She is uncomfortable
He steers her to a corner
Shaan: what the hell is going on? Why did you not eat?
Khanak: Coz its tradition (miffed)
Shaan: khanak you didn't have to do this (irritated)
Shaan: I am going to go grab some food now! (starts walking towards the picnic table)
Khanak: No1 Not now, not until the moon appears
Shaan: Ive seen Mom do this a few times, and Bhabhi do this once, Khanak, WHY DID YOU FAST?
Khanak: Kyon ki main karna chahti thi (softly)
He shakes his head in frustration
The group of women on their side squeal, the moon has appeared clear and bright on the night sky
They take their positions, and watch it thru the sieve, and then trains the sieve on him''' moves it to the side and looks at his face, he can see a glint of tears''.. she is smiling and happy though'''he watches his wife fascinated, she offers water and joins hands in prayer and bends her head and shuts her eyes, rotates the thali, and does a teeka, Dadi asks him to pick up the water and feed her, her hand goes around his hennaed, bejeweled, soft and warm, she grips it tight, and takes a small sip
"Thanks" she utters softly
He is still reeling under shock "You starved for me?" he repeats for the 5th time?
Dadi asks him to feed her a sweet, he does, lingers on her lips, until she blushes and pushes his hand away
Chachi and the other women start to tease them "Abhi jao kamre mein aur subah tak nahi aana" "Well send the food" "Khanak you are supposed to listen to what ever your hubby says tonite"
They laugh and joke together, the couple touch Mom and Dad's feet, Sunil presents her with a Rolex watch "Your love should exist as long as time itself " he says, her husband looks on as her FIL helps her wear it
Dadi hugs the couple and sobs...
Shaan: Can I take her out to dinner?
Dadi: Really? Sure you are not busy?
Shaan grins " Not until 8 tomm" (being explicit)
Dadi: You are not only a brat you are a shameless one, your Dadi did not need to know your nocturnal plans!
Shaan: Just in case you want to drag her off to some pooja 😉😉(warns)
Khanak: Main jaaoon? (neeche, to change?)
Shaan: Nahi!...I will go with you😳😳😳 (holds her hand tight)

Abhi Karwa Chauth abhi baaki hai mere dostAgla part will be touchy feely senti tear jerker, he would have starved all day, he will not leave her side one minute that evening. He will hold her when she faints, they will swear undying love for each other...😃😆
