khanak woke up smiling. It was her engagement day she thought. Fine she was already engaged but still this would make it official in front of friends and family! She looked over at Aria who was still asleep beside her. She waited a few minutes but Aria didn't wake up. Finally not being able to contain her excitement she nudged her. "Ari, wake up." "khanak, let me sleep." "Come on Aria, it's my engagement day, how can we sleep." Aria slowly turned towards khanak, rubbing her eyes and smiling. "You're getting engaged AGAIN to Shaan today." she said happily. "How are you feeling?" Both girls now lay on their sides facing each other. "I'm good, a little nervous, and a lot excited." "Have I told you how happy I am for the two of you." Aria said "Shaan is a great guy and every time he looks at you, you can see the love in his eyes for you." "Ari, I love him so much." "I never thought it was possible to love someone this much." "And if it wasn't for you setting me straight we might not even be together right now." "Thanks for always being the best sister and friend." Aria smiled at her. "Thanks for being the best little sister ever." "When everything happened with "him", Aria said softly. "I was shattered and if it wasn't for you and Ishaan I don't know what I would have done."
khanak sat up and pulled Aria up and threw her arms around her. "I love you Ari, and whenever you need me I'll be there." Aria pulled away first. "Enough sappyness, your wedding is still 3 weeks away and you're already getting emotional!" khanak laughed wiping the tears from her eyes. "What can I do I'm such a softy." Aria, rolled her eyes at that. "Okay enough wasting time." "We need to get up and start getting ready." Aria said already getting out of bed. khanak smiled. It was her engagement day!
Shaan spent his morning in the office. A problem had arisen with a very important client and Shaan had to go in to personally speak to the client to reassure him that things were right on track. This was not really the way he had wanted to spend his engagement day but work was work. As he pulled into his driveway at home, khanak and the other girls came out of the house. "Where you off to?" he asked. "Beauty Parlor." khanak answered. "To beautify myself for the engagement." "You're already too beautiful, you don't need any beauty parlor." Shaan said softly so only she could hear. But the girls leaned in to make sure they heard him "Aww" the girls all said in unison. "I can't believe my brother is so romantic." "It's actually kinda gross" Sara said making a face.. "Try living with them." Rashi said sarcastically. "The way they make lovey dovey eyes at each other is sickening." Shaan and khanak smiled at each other. "See they're doing it again." "I say forget the engagement tonight and just get them married." Shaan looked at his sister with interest. "Rashi that's the most intelligent thing you've said in a very long time." "I think we should listen to Rashi." he said turning to khanak. khanak glared at both Shaan and Rashi. "I don't think she likes that idea so much bhai." Rashi said. Shaan shrugged. "I guess it was worth a try." he said with a sad puppy dog face. khanak tried not to laugh. "Let's go" she said to the girls. "Before these two have any more brilliant ideas."
The girls spent the day at the parlor. khanak felt so relaxed and pampered from head to toe. But maybe she had relaxed her a little too much because when she did glance at her watch she realized they were late. The girls sped home and khanak's mom waited for her at the door. "Where were you?" "Guests are going to start arriving soon and you're still not ready." She ushered her and Aria upstairs. "Aria you help get khanak ready."
khanak slipped on her beautiful lengha and kameez careful not to ruin her hair which she had done at the beauty parlor. All of it hung in soft curls over her left shoulder, a small flower tucked in behind her ears. She put on thick hoop earrings that were copper with dusty pink beads hanging from them. In her hand she wore Copper and Pink chooria. Her make-up was done in a bronze shadow emphasizing her beautiful eyes. She stood in front of the mirror, inspecting herself. Biting her lower lip she thought about Shaan's reaction.
"You look amazing Aria said for the 3rd time as she helped khanak pin her duppata. The duppata came from the back and hung from her arms. khanak's mom walked in and seeing her daughter her eyes instantly welled up. "You look beautiful my bacha." "Thanks mom" khanak said with tears in her own eyes giving her mom a hug. "Everyone is here, we should be ready to go in a few minutes. " "Ishaan will walk you down." khanak smiled and nodded. Aria, gave her a quick hug and her and khanak's mom left. khanak stood trying to calm the butterflies in her stomach. Then she heard Ishaan come up behind her. "I can't believe my baby sister is getting engaged." "How did you grow up so fast?" "I still remember you running around beating up boys bigger then you and now you're a grown woman about to start your own family with Shaan." khanak smiled at her brother giving him a hug. "I might not say it very often, but I'm very proud of you and I am so happy for you and Shaan. "From what I've learned about him I can see he's a great guy, and will keep you happy." "That's all I ever wanted for you." khanak felt tears well up in her eyes. "Hey no tears this is a happy occasion." As he said that his phone beeped, checking his message he saw it was Sanchit. "They're ready for us." he said to khanak. khanak nodded and taking a deep breath they walked out of the room.

Shaan looked up at khanak walking down the staircase and his heart stopped. Literally stopped. She looked so beautiful. As he caught her eye she gave him a small smile. He smiled back. She took her last step and Ishaan handed her hand into Shaan's and patted Shaan on the back. "Take care of my little sister, she's one in a million." Shaan smiled and nodded, shaking Ishaan's hand. As he led her to where the ceremony was going to be taking place he said softly "you take my breath away." 'khanak smiled softly. She peaked a look at him and couldn't believe he could look even more handsome then he usually did. He wore a cream colored uchkin with copper and gold embroidery on the arms and along the buttons running up the middle. Classy but not over done just how Shaan's taste in clothing usually was. As they took their seats he handed her a bouquet of pink roses. Everyone "aawed" around them. khanak brought the flowers to her face and inhaled their beautiful scent. Giving Shaan a big smile. Aria took the flowers from her and they started the ceremony.
Shaan's family and khanak's family both took turns doing their individual shaguns and then Shaan slipped the engagement ring back onto her finger and she slipped one on his. Everyone cheered and applauded as khanak and Shaan smiled happily.
They took photos with everyone as people came up to congratulate them. It was at this point that Priya made an announcement. "Hi everyone, for those of you who don't know me I'm khanak's little cousin." "We the cousins and Shaan's sister's Rashi and Sara along with khanak's best friend Aria have a little surprise for Jiju and Di." "'Now everyone knows Di is the dancer in the family." |She's the one that usually puts these things together but today we're going to attempt to put on a performance for di and jiju." "We just want to say we're so happy for you both and we love you." khanak's smile couldn't be any bigger. She sqeezed Shaan's hand as she waited for the performance to start.

khanak and Shaan watched as their families acted out the words making everyone laugh and cheer. Everyone did a great job and even the guys were in there singing and dancing. khanak's smiled never left her face she felt so blessed to have a family that loved her and Shaan so much. The song ended with everyone clapping and cheering.
Dinner was served and dancing started soon after. khanak and Shaan mingled with guests and then hit the dance floor with everyone else. At one point in the evening Shaan grabbed khanak's hand and said"come with me." He led her to the their back deck. The music could be heard softly as khanak stepped into Shaan's arms.
"Have I told you how beautiful you look today?" Shaan asked as khanak danced in his arms to "Bahon Ke Dharmiya do pyar mil rehain". "Only about 10 times she said smiling." "But I don't mind hearing it again." Shaan laughed. "khanak you look amazing." "You are amazing." he said softly looking into her eyes. "And I love you." khanak looked into Shaan's beautiful eyes and she saw his love for her shining through. "I love you too." she said laying her head onto his chest. "I love you, seems like such a minor phrase for what I feel for you Shaan." "You mean everything to me." "A life without you wouldn't be a life I would ever want to live." Shaan cut in shaking his head. "Well you're never going to have to worry about that because I'm not going anywhere." "You have me for a lifetime." He gave her one of his boyish dimpled smiles and khanak felt her heart skip a beat. For a lifetime, she thought happily.
khanak walked down the stairs and saw everyone lounging either on the sofas or on the floor. Most everyone had changed out of their party attire and were now in their pajamas. khanak herself had changed into a thin pink t-shirt and black cotton shorts. " Party was so much fun." Priya said as she moved over to make room for khanak on the sofa. "Yeah, it was awesome." "I haven't danced that much in a long time." "Di, did you like our performance?" Riya asked. "I loved your performance." khanak answered smiling. "You were all amazing." Everyone smiled happily. Aria came and sat down infront of khanak. "So, we're off to Chandigarh she said to khanak." "Yes, we leave day after tomorrow." "We have three weeks to get so much done." "I hope it's enough time." "Don't worry." Aria said. "There's so many of us, we'll get it all done." "Besides there is no way Shaan will let you delay the wedding date any further." "I think three weeks are going to be difficult enough for him to stay away from you." Aria said laughing. khanak blushed. Truth be told she couldn't imagine delaying the wedding herself. She didn't care if she didn't get the fairytale wedding as long as she got Shaan. Aria elbowed her and turned her eyes towards Shaan who was walking into the room. "Follow my lead." she said to khanak. "You're right khanak, I don't know if 3 weeks will be enough time to get everything ready for the wedding." "You may need to move back the date." khanak stole a glance at Shaan who looked at her with a shocked expression. khanak tried not to laugh. "Lavanya di's wedding was considered rushed and that was planned in 6 months." khanak said. "How can I plan mine in 3 weeks?" "What are you talking about?" Shaan asked slowly. "Oh Shaan, I didn't see you there." "I'm just thinking that maybe we need to push back the wedding by a few months so we have enough time to plan the wedding." "A few months!" Shaan yelled. "What?!" Shaan said staring at khanak. "Push the date back, no way!" "The only way the date is changing is if you're pushing it up as in if you're marrying me this weekend." khanak rolled her eyes. "Oh my gosh look at jiju, di he's so anxious to get married to you." Priya said excitedly.
"Fine, we can have a whatever wedding." "What does it matter if I've dreamed about the perfect wedding all my life." khanak said with a pout "You're right what does it matter as long as you get the perfect husband." Shaan replied back. khanak glared at him. Shaan smiled back at her. "No, the more I think about it the more I can see that we won't have enough time." "I'm going to talk to my dad about changing the date." "khanak," Shaan said trying to stay calm. "Can I please talk to you in private for a minute." "No Shaan i need to go see my dad about this right now." "Ari, do you think six months is enough time?" "Seven," " I think seven would be better." Aria said holding back a giggle. "Seven" Shaan yelled! "No way!" he grabbed khanak's hand. "I need to talk to you right now." he said as he dragged her out of the room. khanak looked back at Aria and her cousins giggling.
As they walked into the family room Shaan turned towards khanak. "I'm telling you right now, there is no way in hell the wedding date is being moved to 7 months from now." "khanak have some pity, I can't wait another 7 months." "You want a dream wedding, I will give you your dream wedding in 3 weeks." "Hire whomever you want, pay whatever you need to but please do not even think about changing the date." khanak stared at Shaan with her hands on her hips and then her face slowly broke into a smile as she burst out laughing. Shaan looked at her like she'd lost her mind.
"What's so funny?" he asked. "You!" "If you could have seen your face when I said I'm pushing back the wedding date." "You looked like you were about to cry." She said laughing again. "Shaan, I have no plans on changing the date." "The wedding could be small or elaborate I don't care as long as I get to marry you." Shaan stared at her with a smile on his face and then he grabbed her and pulled her towards him. "So you and Aria were pulling my leg." he said tickling her. "Shaan!" "No!" she said laughing and squirming. "But you got to admit we got you pretty good." "A girl brought down the mighty Shaan Singhania." she said still laughing from his tickling. Shaan pulled her close. "Not just any girl." he said. ""My girl." khanak smiled and threw her arms around his neck as he hugged her close.
"Is everyone and everything ready to go?" khanak's dad said from the front hall as he checked his watch. Everyone nodded and picked up their luggage and made their way outside to the various vehicles waiting to drive them to the airport. khanak looked back at Shaan and gave him a sad smile. She was going to miss him. Aria walked up to khanak and whispered "I've arranged it that everyone has a ride so you and Shaan can come to the airport alone in his car". khanak looked at her surprised and then smiled. "Thanks Aria, you're the best." Aria smiled back and said bye to Shaan and then ran to her car. As each vehicle drove out of the driveway Shaan grabbed khanak's hand. "Ready?" he said walking her to the passenger side. She nodded as he opened her door for her. As they drove he held her hand bringing it to his lips every so often. "So I'll see you in two weeks." he said. khanak nodded. He glanced over and saw a tear slide down her face. Shaan pulled over and put his arm around khanak pulling her close. "Babe, no tears." "I'm not crying." she said as another tear slid down her cheek. "What's this?" he asked as he caught a tear on his fingertip. khanak said nothing at first and then turning towards him she buried her face in his chest. "I'm going to miss you so much." she said through her tears. "khanak, baby first stop crying." "No more tears, ors else I'm not going to let you go." She looked up at him sniffling and wiping her tears. "Baby, I love you." "I'm going to miss you but the 2 weeks will fly." "You're going to be so busy with the wedding preparations you won't even think about me." "Whereas, I'll be here thinking about you 24/7." "It should really be me crying." he said with a sad look on his face. khanak smiled and pushed him away. "A joke for everything Shaan Singhania." she said in mock anger. "But seriously please take care of yourself and please don't live at work." "And please please be in Chandigarh on time...atleast a week before the wedding." "I don't want to hear about any emergency meetings coming up." "And, and I love you." she said smiling. Shaan gave her a big dimpled smile back. "I love you too and I promise I'll take care of myself after all I am getting married in three weeks I don't want to let the future Mrs. Singhania down." Kissing her hand he started up the car and pulled back onto the road.
Shaan picked up his phone and flipped through his pictures to a picture of a smiling khanak. Her face automatically brought a smile to his face. She'd been gone for a week and half now and even though they talked a few times a day he had missed her a lot. He couldn't wait to see her, just a few more days he thought and he too would be leaving for Chandigarh and then the wedding events would start. Lost in thought he heard a knock on his door that took a few seconds to register. "Come in." he said as he put down his phone. "Oh, hi Megha." Shaan said standing up and coming around his desk. "How are you doing?" "Good Megha." answered. "How are you?" "You must be getting ready for the wedding." "Yeah, I'm just finishing up work here and then I'll be leaving in a few days." "You got the wedding invitation right?" he asked. "Yes, thanks" Megha said nervously. Shaan looked at her waiting for her to continue when she didn't he finally asked "Did you need me to go over something." "Yes," she said pulling out a set of plans." "Just some designs if you have a minute." "Sure." he said taking the plans and rolling them out on the table. Megha came and stood next to Shaan as he leaned over the plans. Megha took a deep breath and as Shaan looked up at her she turned and kissed him. Shaan pulled back instantly. He stared at her with shock. "What was that?" he asked clearly surprised. "I don't know." Megha said miserably. "You just kissed me," he said "and you don't know." "I know, I'm sorry." "I shouldn't have done that." "I just, well you must know I have feelings for you." she said looking up at him. Shaan stared at her again in shock. "No, I didn't." "Come on Shaan, I haven't been that great at hiding it." "I know khanak has seen it." she said. Shaan could not believe it. khanak had been right all along and he had had no idea. When did he get so bad at reading women! "I'm sorry Megha but I had no idea and even if I did I would never have acted on it because I love khanak." "Only khanak." "I know that." "I'm so stupid," "I saw you and I just felt that if I didn't tell you I might regret it one day." "Turns out the kiss is what I'm going to regret one day." she said with tears in her eyes.
"Megha, don't cry." "Let's just forget this ever happened." "I do think working together might be a little awkward so if you want to back out of this project I completely understand." "I think that might be best." Megha said. "Megha I'm sorry if you ever thought there could be anything between us I've only ever loved one girl and that's khanak." "I know, it's clear every time I see you look at her." "But a part of me wanted you to look at me like that." "Anyways, obviously I won't be at the wedding." "But I do wish you happiness and I hope khanak brings you that." With that she picked up her things and left.
Shaan walked around his desk and fell into his chair. He couldn't believe that just happened. But now the question was should he tell khanak.
khanak stood infront of her cousins. Pacing down the line. "Does everyone remember their role during the wedding ceremonies?" she asked. "Yes" they said together. "Good" "Who will be making sure the DJ is playing the list of songs I gave him?" "Me," Priya said stepping forward. "Good" khanak said as she paced some more. "Who is in charge of making sure the photographer is taking pictures of close family and friends?" "Me," said Raj also stepping forward. "What about my friends coming in from Vancouver, who will be making sure thy are taken care of." "Me" and "Me" Sanchit and Riya said stepping forward. "Good' khanak said with a smile. "Now let's go over the sequence of events again." Everyone groaned. "Again!" said Priya. khanak glared at her. "Yes again." "So, first my sangeet which is in 2 days," everyone nodded. "My outfits are back from the tailor for that event Aria?" "Aye, Aye captain." Aria replied rolling her eyes. "And you called me bridezilla." khanak pretended to ignore her comment. "Alright the day after the sangeet is my mendhi and the day after that my haldi and then the following day and the last event is the wedding." "Thank god." Raj whispered to Sanchit. "Can't wait until that day." "What did you say Rajinder Ahluwalia?" "Nothing di," Raj said with fear in his eyes. khanak stared at her cousins. "Now should we discuss the itinerary for the wedding day?" khanak flipped through her papers trying to find the itinerary. Looking down at her papers she commented "what's the matter no smart alec remarks about the itinerary." "What's wrong with you guys?" "All morning all I've been hearing are smart alec remarks from everyone." "Where is that it..." "Hi beautiful." she heard as she felt a pair of strong arms wrap around her waist. "Shaan" she said shocked. And then turning around she threw her arms around his neck "Shaan!" she screamed as he twirled her around holding her tight. "In the flesh." he said smiling. khanak pulled away and looked at him. He looked so handsome in his white polo shirt and light blue jeans. She smiled and threw herself into his arms again. "Aaw" she heard come from behind her from her cousins. "You weren't supposed to be here for another two days ."she said. "I know , but I missed you so I delegated some work and took the next flight out and here I am." Turning towards khanak's cousins he said "Hi everyone, how are you all doing?" "Don't ask' "you won't believe it" and "If you only knew" were the phrases Shaan heard come from everyone's mouth. khanak glared at her cousins.
"Did I miss something?" he asked turning towards khanak. "No you didn't ."she said still glaring at her cousins." "Do you want something to drink? she asked turning back to him. "Come and sit I have so much to tell you about the photographer I found, and now that you're here I need to tell you your responsibilities too." Shaan listened to khanak talk a mile a minute. Sanchit walked by and whispered. "Good luck bro, I feel for you." khanak stopped talking just long enough to punch Sanchit's arm. khanak grabbed Shaan's hand and they sat down on the sofa, she leaned her head against his shoulder. "I'm glad you're here." she said. "Everyone has been a huge huge help and the parents are taking care of all the major stuff but I'm still feeling a little overwhelmed with the small details." she said and then she was sniffling, and then full blown crying. Shaan looked at her worriedly as he wrapped his arms around her. "khanak, babe why are you crying?" "It's just that everyone thinks I'm a bridezilla but I'm not." "I know I said I don't care if the wedding is big or small but it just seems like things have been going wrong left, right and center." "First the photographer backed out, then the mendhi artist then my wedding lengha got ruined by the tailor." "Do you think I'm a bridezilla?" she asked looking up at him with wet lashes. "No, I don't and neither does anyone else. "They're just teasing you.' "You know how much everyone loves you and your cousins all look up to you." khanak stopped crying and wiped away her tears with the tissue Shaan passed to her. "I guess I'm just a little stressed." "But now that you're here I feel better." Shaan kissed khanak's forehead. "I'm here now so you don't need to worry about a thing." And she didn't. Shaan took care of everything she had"assigned" to him and more. He looked through her to-do list asking her why she hadn't delegated to the staff he had made available to her. She had felt weird imposing wedding duties on them. So he did it, for her. khanak felt a big weight lifted off her shoulders.
The sangeet morning khanak woke up late. She was so relaxed. She had spent the previous day at the spa with her cousins and friends that had come from Vancouver for the wedding. It was so great to catch up with everyone. Her friends hadn't met Shaan yet but tonight at the sangeet she would be able to introduce him to everyone. Getting up she got ready, wearing a white suit with pink and purple thread and bead work on it. It was sleeveless and simple in it's embroidery and it fit khanak perfectly. She wandered down the stairs looking at the beautiful peacock blue, green, white and black decorations. Rich fabrics in those hues hung from the stairs and ceilings giving the room an air of elegance. A large brass swing sat on one side with a backdrop of the blue and black fabrics in the background. The decorations had a peacock theme to it. With roses in that beautiful blue and white all over the room, and peacock fans and feathers decorating different brass vases. Pillows in all shapes and sizes in the pretty colors brightened up the rooms even more. The candles and different ornaments completed the look. It was beautiful khanak thought to herself. She walked downstairs and took turns hugging everyone present. "What's that for?" her chachu asked. "It's a thank you for everything you've all done for me and your never ending love." "khanak, kids don't thanks to they're elders." "We just want our daughter to be happy...always." her thaiyaji said patting her on the head. khanak smiled. She spent the rest of the day entertaining guest sand taking care of any last minute details.
Getting ready for the sangeet she had her hair braided with a parandi. She wore a hot pink shrara with a kameez that went to her hips. A rounded deep neck with a large O cut out in the back. The antique gold embroidery perfectly complimented the color. A light duppata hung around her neck and she wore hot pink and gold chooria and an antique gold maang tikka and matching chumka earrings. khanak walked downstairs and people turned around to look at her. An excited buzz started as people admired her. khanak saw Shaan's mom and sisters and went and said hello to them. The place was filling up quickly and the dancing had already started when khanak's friends from Vancouver, two of them from her dance group pulled her on to the dance floor.

Everyone cheered as the song finished and she pulled her aunts and mom aswell as Shaan's mom on to the dance floor to dance to another fast paced song. Looking around she saw Shaan standing with his friends. He looked so handsome in a black and grey kurtha. She walked over and said hello to his friends, teasing some of the ones she knew well, like Akash. Feeling his eyes on her she looked up giving him a questioning look. "Shaan, I want to introduce you to my out of town friends." she said. They excused themselves and as they walked Shaan pulled her to the side on to a balcony. "Shaan what are you doing?" she asked looking around to make sure no one saw them. "I'm trying to sneak a minute alone with my future wife." he said leaning down to kiss her. "Shaan" she whispered moving away from his lips. "We've got a house full of guests what if someone saw us, would would they think?" "They would think, look at that, now that's a guy that loves his wife." Shaan leaned down again for that kiss. khanak shook her head "I'm not your wife yet." she said with a naughty smile. "But you will be very soon." he said forcing her against the wall and placing his lips on hers. khanak soon forgot about everyone else and lost herself in that kiss. When Shaan did pull away he leaned his forehead against hers. "Was that dance for me?" he asked. "No", khanak said taking a deep breath. "That was for my boyfriend." "Well your boyfriend is a lucky guy." Shaan said. "I love the way you dance khanak." "Will you ever dance for me?" he asked softly. khanak looked up him. 'Will you ever dance for me when we're alone khanak?" he asked in his deep sexy voice kissing her neck. khanak felt herself blush not missing what he meant by dancing for him alone and she pushed him away and turned and ran back into the room leaving him chuckling behind her.
