Khanak hates the pall of gloom that has descended on the house. She has tried her hardest to make everyone happy, bring cheer to every family member. Such acts by Mehul defy her reasoning.

Ritu calls and her parents call, all wanting to know if they should also visit. She is tired and drained but reassures that she should be able to do something tomorrow.

She cant imagine Kaka could have given him the freedom to allow him to go astray like this. Even Pradyun and Akhil and Akash were so much better!

They are supposed to be rich spoilt brats

Her husband''' spent every weeknite at a pub or a bar, danced till his legs buckled as he would say. Had more females friends than any one she knew of.

Even he hadn't attempted such a thing, neither during his teen years nor before he married her. A topper in college, went on to study at a top University in the US. He did not smoke, did not do drugs, did not drink alchohol every nite, had no addiction she was aware of'... except her!😳😳

She felt a sudden gush of pride, longing and arousal all at the same time for Shantanu.😳😳

She wanted to hold him tight and complain and cry and sulk, she wanted him to tease her and placate her. She wanted to be in her husband's house, in the rec room, fighting over the remote, not letting him watch "football". She wanted to complain to Dadi about him. She wanted to count the stripes on his work shirt while he had his arm around her and was engrossed in his game.

She wanted to go up to his ear and moan "Shantanu!" "Shantanu!"

While he would pay her no attention , "main ja rahi hoon soney" she would say.

"Fine" he would say releasing her for a second only to pin her back down on the couch.

Khanak was disgusted.

"Who said wealth brought vices? Kaka is barely surviving financially and physically, and his son decides to abduct the VC's daughter!"

Kaki: What will you eat?

Khanak: Nothing (curt)

Kaka is asleep on the sofa, the fan is barely spinning. Clouds gather in the skies and a heavy downpour begins. The power goes off. Mitali looks for candles, and then looks for change to buy some.

Khanak goes with her to buy candles.

They return soaked despite being under umbrellas

Her phone rings. Her heart skips a beat

Multiple beats when she sees the last four digits (she only has those memorized)

Khanak:Hmmm!

Pause

Shaan: Where are you? (abrupt)

Khanak: Ghar par!

Khanak: Kaka ke ghar par

Shaan: Where is he?

Khanak: Ghar par, so rahe hain abhi

Shaan: I meant the star!

She feels humiliated at having to listen to such taunts

Khanak: They'' they still have him

Shaan:Hes in jail? (flat, matter of fact)

Khanak: Hmmm

Shaan: do your parents know?

Khanak: Jee! (softly)

Shaan: I am the only one to be told last? (blistering)

Khanak: I called you

Shaan: Did you try to tell me?

She walks to the rainy front verandah

Khanak: 4 baar call kiya

He is livid again

Shaan: Couldn't you have gotten on IM and pinged me? Sent me one BLOODY email?

Looong pause

Khanak: I did the best I could. Your ego is not of supreme importance right now.

Shaan: Leave alone my ego Khanak, I am altogether of no importance at any time! (whiplash)

Khanak: My family needs me

Shaan: Ive heard that since Jan 14^th ? Its not breaking news any more.(scoffs)

It hurts her immensely

Khanak: Maine aapko call karne ki koshish ki, I tried, I couldn't get through. I don't need your help. I should be able to take care of this.(mature, sad, )

Shaan:: On your way to the police station then? (fuming, outraged)

He is afraid she might go. He would kill her if she tried to, especially at night

He feels helpless, worried, terrified. He doesn't want her to deal with the cops at night.

Khanak: I am not a fool . You should go watch the movie (aloof, cold)

Shaan: Good to know! I got out to get a refill on my drink!

They both just made everything worse. Despite missing each other painfully and being mad at each other gloriously, they just managed to shoot the other in the foot with their motor mouths
