We are all, at the end of the day, answerable to our conscience, as to what we believe is right or wrong.
There are some issues in life where it is easy to take a 'right' or 'wrong' stand. Sometimes it is not so easy. One has to be 'realistic' or 'pragmatic'.
Coming to the topic here, some people believe that a public personality's actions/behaviour affect his/her image (whether it is an actor or a sportsperson or a politician).
Some others feel that we should only look at their 'work' and not at their actions which are not related to work.
This debate is not new. It has been going on for ages, so no one individual can put an end to it.
There are so many public personalities, both in contemporary times and in history, whose personal actions and the way they have led their lives is totally different from what they have produced. Great poets, writers, actors etc turn out to be alcoholics, wife-beaters (or husband-beaters, not that I know of any, but), misers, cheats, bigamists, heart breakers, whatever... ofcourse it has not stopped people from enjoying/ appreciating what they have produced be it literature or political strategy or science.
But does it mean other aspects of their lives cannot be debated or questioned? I personally do not think so. I believe it is possible to appreciate an individual's work, and also be simultaneously critical of that individual's views and actions on other issues.
Just like how an individual's behaviour whether done knowingly or ill-advised cannot overshadow his/her work, similarly just because an individual is a great actor or sportsperson or statesman/woman, does not mean his/her behaviour is beyond the public purview.
(by 'behaviour' I mean both words and actions).
I have no problem reading contradictory points of view. I know my position on this topic and I am convinced about it. But that does not mean I only expect to read views that are similar. What I can hope for, as a member of an online forum, is for a civilised way to express those opinions. That is all.
Members should be allowed to voice their views whether the majority or minority likes it or not. They should not use abusive language against the actors or fellow members. But to say, from now onwards this topic shall not be discussed, is not right in a public forum. 'This is going on for a long time. end it' is not the right approach. It will go on as long as the actor in question is in the public eye. In fact, he would be the last person to say 'don't discuss me', LOL... because to an actor, being in the public eye and being talked about is more important than not being talked about.
Whether the talk is all gushing or criticism, is not just upto fans. It takes two to tango. The actor can decide what he/she wants the fans to talk about. He/she can set the agenda.
As for the show, has the show suffered because of the recent happenings? Does anyone have access to Star One TRPs? And if indeed the show has suffered, can IF members alone be held responsible?
The chaskameter readings don't seem to have much impact in terms of TRPs. The show that has been no.1 in IF forever now, does not feature in the top 10 programs on TAM readings, as far as I know. So, while it is good to do what we can for the show, there is no need to get unduly worried about it and get defensive. (I rate the chaskameter everyday, btw).
If, however, there is cause for worry, then whoever has that info should pls disclose it to all members so that everyone knows what is going on.
