His phone wasringing non stop since morning. His friends had the emailed, pdf, snail mail and the courier version of his reception invite! Yet he was getting 10s of phone calls, asking something or the other. It had been over three weeks since he had gotten together as a group with any of them. Mayank could make it to the reception since he was in Singapore for work, he flew in just for the day. Samar and Arjun were gone on their trek. Dhruv had called multiple times. Kavi, and all others were slamming him, almost like a prank, he thought

He waited in traffic, hit Sirius and then went back to the local station and then connected to his ipod, iphone, yet, he was not able to find what he wanted to listen

It was disconcerting, strangely he was feeling very unsettled and cagey about something. He could not put a finger on it. He wondered if it had anything to do with trying to make introductions of his friends to his wife or vice versa. Some had questioned his choice. He hadnt thought about it since the moment he said he was "OK" with it to Dadi in the rec room that night.

He still had no idea why she agreed!

He may never know!

She was unlike any of his friends, all his female friends were from a different planet. For one, none were quiet. Not one was an architect. None kissed like her!

There was something about the way she said his full name!

Mahi had called to ask what she would like as a gift. He had told her "books" and "silence". He detected a fleeting sign of sadness in Mahi's voice, may be it was just his imagination. They both knew the score. Dhruv and Mayank were the only guys that "knew". He laughed and joked about it much like the others did. They all wondered who he had dated and "when".

Thanks to the stint overseas he could cloak it all.

The feeling of nervousness and trepidation came back again.

It was hard to get a hold of him any week night until 2 AM, if he was not at work, then he was prolly at one of a dozen places famous for its night life.

It had been over two weeks since he had stepped into one.

Despite his incredible memory he couldn't recall the last time that had happened. "Maybe 12^th grade? Just before his State exams?"

He didn't know if he was going to give it all up, or if he "should"

Him, Dhruv and Mayank were the only ones married in the whole group, some were "living in" but were living in with a person that matched them to a T.

None were married to someone who they did not have a clue about.

Someone who loathed everything about him and his friends

He was until recently and his friends are even now all about having a good time''''pubs and bars and clubs and binge drinking and beer busts and even in some extreme cases some friends indulged in things like multiple partners!

It did not bother him in any way. They were still good people. What they did with their lives was their own business.

"Am I suddenly doubting my decision?" "Three days after the wedding?" "Splendid!" he cursed.

He had said that to her, but never to his friends. The quiet, introvert, aloof architect that works for Ajmera's client was his wife now!

Beggars and street urchins crowd his vision, they start wiping his hood with a dirty rag. He just stares at them blankly. There was no use yelling at them or handing money, he checked his cup holder for random change, he couldn't find any today.

His phone rings the moment the light turns green. Its his Mom, he is wearing his blue tooth head set, "Ya Mom"

Madz: where are you Shaan?

Shaan: On my way home, approaching Marine Drive actually.

Madz: Do you have plans of being home tonite?

Shaan: No!

Madz: what do you mean?

Shaan: I thought the reception was at the Towers?

Madz: Funny! I am not in the modd for humor, so get your bu'here ASAP. Even Dad's home tonite. He leaves for Taipei at Noon tomorrow and yet he is here! (complains)

Shaan: In 20?

MadZ: I am sending Akshay after you if I don't see you in 20.

Shaan: Relax, this thing doesn't have wings''

He is irriated for some reason "What about?"

Madz: Don't know, get here and find out for yourself.

He hangs up.

A couple guys call soon after, he answers quickly, he can hear his text message ring away.

It was taking a super human effort to honor the "pact". "Not sure how much longer!"

The first apartment was going to be ready to be handed out in 9 months.

Its going to take a giant leap and hundreds of crazy hours to catch up!

Most importantly dodge the WIFE!

Slides into the underground parking lot. Parks and lets himself out, the elevator is no where in sight all 4 of them, walks towards the back to use the two service elevators. His Mom would have a heart attack if she saw him ride this one.

Takes one to the 9^th, gets off walks around to the front, knocks on the door, Hari Lal and his teeth greet him

Shaan: Movie se aa gaye sab?

Hari lal: Jee Bhayya, sab oopar hain, Sir to aapko lekar bahut gussa hain!

Shaan must have heard that tone over 500 thousand times since his teen years. It hasn't changed one bit he thinks

Akshay and Anil Chachu confront him and want to know where the he was, he comes up with the list of things he was off doing

Akshay: You are a brave soul, bro. Khushboo would have BBQed me if I did that 3 days after the wedding

Shaan: Some guys have all the luck Bhayya!

Sunil's booming voice interrupts "You are goddamn lucky Shaan, if you didn't have a wife you would be..."

Madz: Sunil, its his reception tonite!! (shocked)

Shaan does two steps at a time, the door is shut, opens, enters, she is nowhere in sight.

Walks over to the bathroom, she is standing in front of the mirror with wet hair forming tendrils around her face wearing what looks like a pink kurta!

The bathroom smells like her... roses...

He can feel blood rush to his face and hear a throb in his ears upon seeing her bare legs, knees down😳😳 The henna is almost uptil her knees... he can see now

She reaches for the sindoor and dips her index finger and goes to her parting, her finger quivers... she tries again, "Maybe it's the first time she is wearing it by herself after... Soo"

He is unable to move, watches her without batting an eyelid.

Her eyes well up with tears.

Shaan: Did you take notes at the movie? (looks at her intensely)😳😳

She drops her hand hearig his voice...the container slips and tilts to the side
