I love Shanak and hate the mention of Ritu even from him...You said this part will be about the Shaadi and other things...I dont know what happens in marriages but I do believe in the institution of it...And I want an "I love you" ...I dont care when but please put it in!

Part 36
Modi& Dastur's office
4 PM
There were lots of sweets at work today, two babies and a shaadi. Khanak was happy. She wished more people would get married and have babies, if it meant there would be a steady supply of cakes, chocolates and mithai at work. Ram had returned from a 3 day trip to Dubai. There was enough candy to feed the entire buiding. He was happy to see her back in her smiling, quiet avatar.
He was actually beginning to get worried there for a while, as she had seemed quite agitated and pensive. "What ever was bothering her had been taken care of".
She was rapidly transitioning the core team work to her two direct reports. He could never question the quality of her work, she complained incessantly but her work was always a 10/10. He was really fond of her, his wife Renuka also liked her a lot, and was amazed at how any one could be so quiet. He would be sad to see her go, when ever that happens, when she chooses to get married again. When he had teased her abt it this morning, she had said "I am your work horse ram, "lambi race ka ghora" she had winked, I will be here, day after day, no time off for honeymoon, babies, no coming in to work late after the wedding and getting razzed by the group of girls, no wink wink, nudge nudge for me. I will show up at 9 and leave at 7" she had declared

As if on cue, Khanak's phone rings in the adjacent cubicle. Its her Aada, he sounds excited.
Aada: Time hai beta baat karne ko? (Gujarati)
Khanak: Kaka to theek hai na? (panic)
Aada: Haan! (surprised)
Khanak: Aur Bai?
Aada: SAB theek hai Khanak. Mujhe bolne dogi?
Khanak: Sorry Aaada (embarrassed)
Aada: Bahut busy ho?
Khanak: Haan. Kaafi
Aada: Chalo, kar lo jitna marzi kaam, chain se, phir kaam par itna dhyaan nahi de paaongi.
Khanak's heart skips a beat "Kyon"
Aada: Yahan aana padega ne, chutthi par?
Khanak: Aada abhi nahi le sakti main chutthi. There is no reason to.
Aada: Arrey shaadi par bhi nahi?
Khanak: Kya? Sonal ki shaadi tay ho gayi? (thrilled, but kinda sad also, her bua's daughter was getting married also, so there would not be any body left to hang out with in Ahemdeabad)
Aada: Sonal? Nahi to!
Khanak: Phir kiski shaadi?
Aada: Tumhari, Khanak Mistry!
Her finger tips are frozen and feel like she is wearing a over sized ski glove on em, there is no grip, her face is flaming, she quickly walks down the stairwell on the side, sits on the last step, people walk down, give her curious glances, men taking a smoke break, check her out, she is wearing a lemon yellow kurta and a red churidar. With a red scarf like thing, she hold her phone with both hands
Khanak: Aada, please (her voice is trembling)
Aada: Kya hua beta tum ro kyon rahi ho?
Khanak's tears love that reminder, they just start to flow freely
Khanak: Aada, mazaak nahi, please, main kaam par hoon
Aada: Yeh lo apni Bai se baat karo, rona band beta
Her Bai comes on, "Khanak, ab tu kuch din ki mehmaan hai Aada ke ghar par"
Khanak: Bai, please, nahi
Bai: Aaaj tumhara rishta pakka ho gaya. Tere sasur aur Dadi aaye the, Bua aur Dadi se milne!
Khanak: Kaun? (she knows, but yet wants to hear)
Bai: Tere mangetar Shantanu Gujral ke Aada aur Dadi
A noisy cement mixer stops grinding its teeth, he takes his yellow hard hat off, his clothes are grimy and sweaty, tries to recall if he has a pair of clothes in his car, his jeans and lemon yellow Polo tee are in a bad shape.
His phone rings impatiently, it has a couple times, he had ignored it talking to the supervisor, wiping his brow off, throwing the hard hat into the "Used hats" bin, he walks into his sub zero room, rotates the paper wt in the center, before sprawling on the couch, feet up on the coffee table
Shaan: Yep! (into the phone)
Khanak: How dare you?? (fierce, spitting fire)
Shaan: What? (confused)
Khanak: Aapne Dadi aur Aada''..(mortified) aur apne Dad ko mere ghar kyon bheja?
Shaan: So did they meet already? (smiles)
Khanak: I told you I cant get married to you. I know why you want to get married to me, so I cant let you win.
Shaan throws his head back and laughs "Khanak, we are engaged now so drop the adversary routine will you (mocking)
Khanak: You are engaged, NOT ME!
Shaan: Can you get away from work? (checks his watch, it says 5:15 PM)
Khanak: No! I cant, I don't want to see you!
Shaan: I can pick you up after work.
Khanak: Don't you dare show up at my office. Please! I have a reputation here (miffed)
Shaan smiles " then come see me" (unrelenting)
Khanak: Mujhe aapse baat to karni hai. This is so wrong! Except me no one knows why you agreed to marry me. (pained)
Shaan: You can tell your Da, Aada if you like "He just wants me to"
Khanak: I refuse to play this game! Oh! Gosh! (runs her fingers thru her hair, her lips are dry, her face is flushed, she is still sitting on that last step on the corner, clutching the railing)
Shaan: where are you? I can hear an echo!
Khanak: In the stairwell.
Shaan: What?
Khanak: Shantanu (pleads)
Shaan: The family wants us to get married in a month Khanak, lets meet so we can talk about how much time we can mutually agree to be off work? (gruff)
