Meanwhile:
At the breakfast table...Akshay was reading all the news papers that had their party covered and was very very pleased with the reviews and was reading it all aloud for the whole family - excluding ofcourse Shan, Khanak and Dadi. He was damn proud of his brother... who really had changed so much over the last few months and every papper, and business magazines had mentioned Shantanu Khnadelwal as an upcoming Buinsessman of the year.
Sunil Khandewal,too was so proud of his son....he had done him proud, the family and business so proud....thats what he always wanted to see in Shan ...the drive to succeed, to take responsibilties for ones actions, initatives...and his youngest son had done all that and more.
Madhvi couldn't stop from preening...and going on all about her influences on both her son and especially Shan...her darling baby...looking so handsome, daper and so dashing...in the pictures that graced the newspapers today.
Khusboo too couldn't help but be proud as her brother -in-law Shan had proved himself ..to all of them and especially to her father who initially had problems with accepting Shan as his son-in-law for her sister Natasha....but lately his opinions had changed and yesterday...he even mentioned the fact that it was time that they talked about Natasha and Shan's marriage as the six months were up and the divorce was to be finalised in a days time.
Her father had even talked about this to Mr & Mrs. Khandelwal...and Akshay and would be arriving in the evening today to talk about the marriage that couldn't take place because of the whole Dulwadi scene...that landed Shan having to marry Khanak ..on the same day that his marriage was to take place with her sister...God it seemed such a long time that...and all things that happened since then..
How she hated Khanak...thinking she was taking Natasha's place but everything was all settled now...and over time she accepted the fact that was harped by all...especially by Khanak and Shan that it was only for a few months... their marriage, till the divorce day.Here respect for Khanak had really grown as in such a small time she really had become one of them...in her sense of dressing, talking ...she was way impressed by Khanak and her speaking English. They were not friends but they got along pretty well now and she really loved Khanaks cooking.
Though she still worried about Natasha and Shan as their relation did not seem to be as it was before..she couldn't point out what was wrong....but she had a feeling that things were not the same...she even tried to talk to Natasha about it..but was always answered with " Di don't worry everything is fine, really!" ...she really hoped it was so.
After having breakfast the men left for the office...leaving instructions as not to disturb Shan as he deserved to rest in today after all the hard work he put in yesterday...he deserved to take the day off or come in late...what ever pleased him.
Later in the Day:
Khusboo left for her father's home and told mom she would be arriving with her dad and Tashu later in the evening..as she was from the girls side.Madhvi was all set to leave to meet her friend at the Club..when the phone rang.
"Hello" , Madhvi replied picking up the phone.
"Could I speak to Mr. Shantanu Khandelwal please", the person on the other line said.
"May I know whose calling", asked Madhvi.
"I am the lawyer calling" , answered the person.
"I am sorry he's sleeping right now, you could try calling him later on this number or his cell phone" answered Madhvi.
"Its very urgent that I talk to him, I tried calling on his cell phone but he's not picking it up" answered the lawyer.
"Why don't you give me the message and I will see to it that my son gets it and calls you back" replied Madhvi.
"Could you inform him that he has forgotten to sign the divorce papers and I need his signitures as they have to be submitted today in court by this afternoon" replied the lawyer.
" What" replied Madhvi..."Shan forgot to sign the divorce papers"
"Yes maam, and I need his signatures urgently , so I have sent over the papers for his signatures with my dirver who would be arriving in a few minutes , so could he sign the papers and send them over immediately with my driver, as tomorrow is a weekend and the court would be closed...thus we need to submitt the divorce papers today or else we will have to wait for a week till the next hearing and court day is given to us" replied the lawyer.
"Okay thanks for doing that, I will make sure he signs them and they are sent immediately with your driver" replied Madhvi.
Shan woke up an hour later ...to see that he was late for work....he got up...locked the door so that no one would barge in and see the state the room was in...he hurriedly picked up all the clothes and the bedsheet and dumped them in the laundry basket in the bathroom.Took out the new sheet and laid it over the bed uphazardly as he really had no time to make sure it was done properly and he knew that the housekeeper would come in later and do the needful. He took a quick shower got ready. While he was in the shower he did hear his mobile ring and the knocking on his door...but ignored it all. After getting ready he saw an unknown number on his phone and did not pay any attention to it..saying it may be a wrong number and if the person wanted to talk to him...they would call back later. He saw that the other miss calls were from his office and dads mobile. He called immediately and found out that he was needed there pronto.
Back Dowstairs
: Madhvi after the phone call went and knocked on her sons room but got no reply and the door too was locked so she couldn't enter. Funny that she thought to herself as her son never locked his door. She decided to wait for him downstairs and in the meantime called her friend that she would be late. After fifteen minutes of waiting for her son and the driver...the driver arrived with the papers.
"Why don't you wait outside...I will have them signed in a few minutes and delivered to you" Madhvi said to the driver.
"Hari...go an check if Shan baba is awake." she said to the servant.
The driver left and down came Shan...all dressed to leave for work.
"Shan dear...where are you leaving in such a hurry" asked Madhvi.
"Mom dad called...it seems there is a problem at work and I am needed there immediately, bye?" said Shan and moved toward the entrance.
"Stop, Shan...there papers arrived for you to sign...you can't leave without signing them" said Madhvi.
"What papers mom?" Shan asked moving towards the center table where his mom was sitting.
"They are from..." Madhvi was interupted from completeling her sentence as at that time both Shan and her mobile rang.
"Yes dad I will be there in a few minutes, don't worry am leaving right now" said Shan into his phone.
Madhvi was busy on the phone herself and in sign language showed Shan the papers that had come for him and needed his signature. Shan without even looking at them or reading them... signed where there were small x marks...and in sign language he too told his mom he did what she wanted and left. After getting over with the phone call...she called Hari and sent the signed papers to the driver waitng outside.
At the Khandelwal Office:
"Dad what seems to be the problem?? I got here as soon as ypu called." said Shantanu as soon as he entered his father's office.
"Thank God, Shan you came...there is an emergency and you have to leave immediately fro Singapore" replied Sunil Khandelwal
"What??!!" said Shan in shock...he had planned to spend the day with Khanak...after yesterday...and it seemed it was not possible now...he was so disappointed in hearing that he had to leave immediately.
"Can't Akshay bhia leave instead of me dad" aske dShan...hoping that could be done.
"I am so sorry Shan I know you must be tired after yesterday adn you truly deserved a day off...but Aksahy has left for Delhi as he was needed there for the GM project...thus its only you..and we really need you to leave for Singapore immediately, those papers need to be signed adn delivered immediately to Mr.Singhania, as he would be leaving for Australia the next day" said Sunil Khandelwal.
"I already have your tickets ready and had Hari bhai pack your bags, the driver just arrived with them, Shan ...so sorry but we need you to leave now, as the flight is in an hour, you need to be at the airport immediately" Sunil said and handed the ticket, passport to Shan along wiht teh file that he needed to delvier to Mr.Singhania.
All this seemed like such a bad dream to Shan...he couldn't beelive that he wont even get a time to meet Khanak, or talk to her...or...."sigh".
Taking the stuf his father handed him he moved to leave the office....hec alled home from his mobile hoping agains hope that Khanak had reached home from the mandir..he so wanted to talk to her..to explain...to tell her that he loved her, but he was unlucky as she had not reached home yet at all. He left a message with Hari to tell Khanak to call him immediately when she reached.
Even after reaching the airport he called...still no luck..God..he so needed to talk to her as he was feeling ..that something big was going to happen with him not being there...there was this desperation in him...needing to tal to her, hear her voice to say I love you to her...he did not know why he felt as he did..but he did and it made him feel very very uneasy. Even trying home before take off...still no Khanak....he was now very very worried.
"God hope all is well" he prayed to himself.
At the Mandir:
Khanak ....mind was with Shantanu and wanting to be with him...to talk to him, her mind was not in the pooja happening nor in what was happening around her. She missed out completely the conversation going on between Dadi and Mrs. Bhojwani who were talking, and she missed out on Dadi accepting Mrs. Bhojwani's invitation to attend the Sathsang..that was going to take plae in an hours time., and when she realized what dadi had said yes too...she couldn't but kick herslef metally for not paying attention and making anexcuse not to attend....she was eeling all anxious and she so needed to talk to Shantanu...like something big wa going to happen and the only way to stop it was by talking to him..she couldn't explain the feeling at all....but she couldn't say no now to dadi..and had to stay back.
At the Khandewals Home:
Dadi and Khanak had still not returned and Shan had called again after reaching Singapore and befroe he was closeted in the meeting that he was to attend...but to no avail...Khanak had still not returned.
In the eveening..the Aggarwals made an entry.
Natsaha was happy to find out that the divorce papers had at last being signed by Shan and even delivered to the lawyer, she was estatic really...it seemed that Shan still loved her. Lately with teh way Shan behaved adn talked with her she had started having serious doubts and had even started seeing Rohan the guy her father had recommended, he was really a nice person...but he was not Shan..she compared him a lot to how Shan was...though Shan had chnaged so much in the last few months..that she even doubted that she ever knew him, but the evening of the party her father saying he already talked to the Khandelwal's for her and Shan's marriage and wa really suprised with her father who seemed to be so against it a few months back. On asking him why such a cahnge..he replied that a mand had a right to change his mind.
The meeting went very well between the family ...all agreeing to an earlist date as possible for the marriage to take place and starting the preparations as soon as Shan and Akshay came beack from their respective business trip.
When Shan called again...he did not even get a chance to ask about Khanak as his mother talked non-stop about a big suprise for him as soon as he came that would make his day and not to waorry as she will take care of everythingelse for him,leaving him confused adn irritated..that he couldn't talk to the one person he needed to talk too..thus giving a vague reply he cut the phone.
The Aggarwals had just left when Khanak and Dadi entered and were told the whole thing...leaving Dadi shocked and Khanak completely shattered.
The whole family without noticing Khanks reaction were telling her how happy they were and Shan was...at last him and Natasha's marrige would take place and it was not possible without her too, for signing the divorce papers etc. They hopped she would stay for the wedding...as she too was part of the family now..and a friend to Shan.
Khanak was in limbo...her world had shattered around her once again and this time....in a very very big way. She couldn't beleive it that Shantanu did not tell her all this himslef before leaving, leaving it to his family to inform her...she couldn't beleive that she had mistaken the night that they shared for something more...she questioned her self again and again and replayed the night again and again in her mind, asking herself who did she make such a big mistake, how could she talk herself into thinking that it meant more then it really was, questioning herslf in beleiving that Shantanu too loved her as she did, saying to herslef that she built mountians out of nothing really, as he did not even say he loved her and berated her self for putting so much meaning into what happened, completely blaming herself for last night, for letting things get so far. She made a decision of not coming between Natasha and Shan again as she did the last time...she did by marrying him and staying, this time she would do the right thing, she would not let Shan stay married to her for the wrong reason feeling responsible for what happened last night, making up her mind at last, she packed her paetti and that night leaving a letter for Dadi and Shantanu, she left Khadelwal Home and Mumbai for ever.
