Does anyone remember the movie, "Jeena Sirf Mere Liye"? With Tushar Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor
They're childhood best friends, but Kareena's dad is rich, and doesn't allow her to see Tushar anymore. Kareena leaves her watch with him and he gives her an idol.
They meet, they fight, and eventually fall for each other. But they still claim to be in love with that childhood friend.
When they finally find out that they are that childhood friend, Tushar [being forced by Kareena's dad] pretends that she meant nothing to him, breaking her heart. [They do end up together tho]
I think this is where Ranbir and Rano's love story is headed.
Ranbir and Rano will be attracted, but still be waiting for that special friend. When Rano finds out that the watch was given to her by Ranbir, she will find out that it was Ranbir's dad she stopped at the Gurudwara, and Ranbir's brother that tried to kill her, and in front of Ranbir, she will probably make it look like the watch meant nothing to her [self-sacrifice] and that's how thestory will progress
