Ayodhya

Evening there

Dasarath leaps up on his bed and starts running towards the window, dancing with joy,: my ram have returned, my ram have returned

Kaushalya follows him and with tearful eyes catches him and tries to bring him to senses.

Dasarath watches from the window, no sign of sumantra and no sign of ram. He suddenly moans: no , I know, he will not come, he will not come back kaushlaya

Do you know why?

Because my son never disobeyed me, [mere agyyakari putra] I ordered him to leave for vanvas, he happily obliged, oh god what did I do, what a sinner am i.

He presses his breast out of pain and loses balance. Kaushalya brings him back to bed.

Kaikeyi 's room, Kaikeyi and Manthara busy discussing

K: sumantra is so late, I wonder!!

M: have patience my queen

K: what if Sumantra brings ram back

M: be assured ram will not come back. He will never stray from his road of virtue and principle. He will follow his promise till death. Based on this virtue of his that I played the cards of two boons maharani. Be assured

Kaikeyi assured , smiles an evil and contented smile.

part 2

Morning, once again in Ayodhya, a gloomy morning

Dasarath is mumbling: ram, ram, my son dear son.

Gradually Kaushalya wakes him up.

D: sitting, what an unfortunate person am I! my dearest son has left for vanvas and still I am alive.

But maybe because still lingers in me the faintest hope that my ram will come back.

Kaushalya, loving janaki has left with her ram, Laxman is gone too, atleats sita is with ram but Urmilla, that poor girl she is alone.

I committed such a a magnanimous sin when I granted Kaikeyi those two boons. I should never have done so. Now I must reap the fruits of my deed.

A crying Kaushalya can only hold him and listen.

Beside river side, Ram, Laxman, Sita, waiting along with guhak. Sailor kevat brings the boat slowly and kkeep it a little far.

Guhak rebukes him for being so late.

Kevat addresses Ram , Laxman as brother, sita as mother and offers all of them pranam.

He seems to be an able and intelligent person.

Ram request him to bring the boat nearer so that Sita can easily step on.

K: you r god! Sir, it is said, your feet has the power to bring life to inanimate things . you touched a stone and it became a beautiful woman. What if you bring my boat to life too by touching with your feet?

If my boat becomes a beautiful maid, how can I sail and earn.

Ram is watching and listening patiently

L: (angry again) do you mean to say you will not let us cross Ganga in your boat? Do you?

Guhak is angry too

K: I have a condition, if my lord you oblige it only then I will allow you to ride my boat

R: what is it?

Laxman is once again fuming.

S: but bring your condition first

K: brother Laxman can shoot me for this but my lord you have to oblige me to ride my boat. Your feet, they say is auspicious, I want to wash it with my own hands and then dry it and drink that water (Charanamrita). Then only you can ride

Ram happily obliges and as Sita stands by him and Laxman watches

Part3

A smiling kevat, singing and offering ram devotional songs, crosses the trio in boat.

The trio cross Ganga and this is the beginning of their hermitage for 14 years.

Thanks Tan, that was lovely account. How much I love the scene where lord Ram offers Kevat fare for taking them across the river and Kevat replies that they share a profession of ferrying people.
