About Vibhishan - Why does everyone think he is a hero when he actually betrayed his own family?

Please understand that I am not speaking against anyone. Neither am I supporting anyone. I am merely sharing the information I have read before.

Many people have long debated this fact. Do you think Lord Ram would have accepted him if he was such a traitor?

First - He did not leave Lanka of his own accord. He was kicked out by his elder brother whom he loved as his father. Till then, though he hated what his elder brother was doing, he kept trying to convince him and did not leave till he had to.

Second - If he had so desired he could have spoken out and revealed all the secrets of his family - how to defeat his brother and his nephews on the day he met Ram. The war would have been over very soon. But he didn't do this. He told the secret of their defeat only when there was no other option and he thought that it was his duty as a friend and brother (Ram accepted Vibhishan as a brother) to help the ones who sheltered him.

Ravan on finding Vibhishan in the battlefield with Lakshman (after the death of Indrajeet) got really angry and threw the Shakthi ( a spear) on him. Lakshman felt that it was his duty to protect someone who his brother had sheltered and tried everything he knew. Vibhishan himself knew there was no counter - attack for that weapon and told Lakshman to stop trying and that it will hit him and take his life for sure. But Lakshman threw himself in front of Vibhishan when everything else failed. He was ready to sacrifice his own life for a stranger from an enemy camp just because his brother accepted Vibhishan.

Vibhishan revealed the secrets of how to kill his relatives only on the last moment when everything else had failed and his friends lives were in danger.

Sushen - Some stories say that he is Tara's (Vaali's wife) father. Vaali and Raavan were good friends. You must have seen how they became friends. I think (I am guessing again) that Sushen might have come to live in Lanka due to this friendship. As to how Vaidraj Sushen came to live in Lanka, I have no clue.
