What makes a good Ramayan mythological? What is more important to you? Actors who do justice to his/her role, authenticity to the epic, sets, costumes, etc? Many of us have evaluated NDTV Imagine Ramayan since it first aired in Jaunary, but what about an evaluation of a Ramayan serial in general? What do you think directors and producers who want to make a Ramayan serial should give most importance to? Please express your opinions by filling out these answers...

1. What is most important? Please pick one.
a. Actors who do full justice to the roles of the main characters in Ramayan
b. Sticking with the story of the epic, and not changing it to suit your needs (In other words...the script)
c. Sets that don't make Ramayan look like it's being taken in the 60s and 70s
d. Costumes that convey the modesty and virtue people held in the Treta Yug
e. Other, and please explain why
2. Which character in Ramayan do you think should be given first preference? I mean, if a bad actor for this character was chosen, with who do you think the story would be most affected? Please pick one.
a. Shri Ram
b. Lakshman
c. Hanuman
d. Ravan
e. Other, and please explain why
3. Same for the women. Please pick one.
a. Devi Sita
b. Kaushalya
c. Kaikeyi
d. Manthara
e. Other, and please explain why
4. How often do you think music/background songs/bhajans should be used/appear?
a. Every 5 minutes; it creates bhakti in the serial, and makes it more lively and lovable.
b. Every 10 minutes; not too much, not too little.
c. One or two songs per episode; too much becomes annoying, because the characters will barely have lines.
d. No songs; I like to see a serial with purely dialogues. The title and closing songs are enough for me.
5. How much should directors/producers stretch their story?
a. Numerous background stories per each Kanda in Ramayan is enlightening and knowledgeable.
b. One background story per Kanda is good, because this way we learn a different story each time, and the actualy story of Ramayan is not too delayed.
c. Two or three background stories in the whole serial is enough. To tell the actual story in Ramayan is the important thing, and not to spend too much time with other things. Otherwise, the flow of the story is interrupted and people get bored.
d. No background stories at all, because I like to watch the story of Ramayan only, and not everything else. Background stories can be explained through explanations by the characters to other characters.
I created this topic so that if anyone ever wants to direct/produce Ramayan, or other mythological serials, they will know the opinions of some people.

1. I find a and b most important. But I consider a the most. If actors do their job really well, then people will definitely like Ramayan even if there is some variation in the story from the epic.

My answer would be A & B ..in that priority...The story, script, dialogues everything is being said and done by the actors so selection of good actors is most important..best of scripts can go waste if not enacted properly....The script must be according to the epic ..Also, the dialogues must be checked..language must be according to a mythological..

All of them..but it's obvious that Ram is the hero n he should be the best..
3. Same for the women. Please pick one.
a. Devi Sita

d. Manthara

Sita..Others have a small role in Ramayan..

Songs, not too often but small chaupaiyan from Ramayan and few good lines here and there will make it better...

I will go with A...I would love to watch Ramayan in detail, as it is in the epic..but yes..the story should be woven in such a way that there are few flashbacks..this way the flow of the story wont be interrupted..like they can introduce Ravan and Hanuman stories a bit earlier in Ramayan than Sita haran...the way Ravan did tapasya and he got the power, he defeated the Gods..similarly, when Hanuman took birth, his baalpan story..some of them can be shown with Ayodhya kaand..or when shri Ram was in Vashishta aashram..

I like D and E, because staying true is important.
2. Which character in Ramayan do you think should be given first preference? I mean, if a bad actor for this character was chosen, with who do you think the story would be most affected? Please pick one.
a. Shri Ram
3. Same for the women. Please pick one.

I LOVE EM!!

All in all, the Ramayan is deeper than the ocean, larger than the universe and more beautiful than beauty its self..So it will be hard for any creator/director to capture everything, but so far I like it!

I think those two because changing the epic is like completely twisting a holy and virtuous story, and that is like a sin. Also, who would watch a Ramayan if it looks like it took place in the 60s and 70s?
2. Which character in Ramayan do you think should be given first preference? I mean, if a bad actor for this character was chosen, with who do you think the story would be most affected? Please pick one.
a. Shri Ram
Of course, Shri Ram
3. Same for the women. Please pick one.
a. Devi Sita
Devi Sita has a major role, so her

I think the story and script is most important, but bhajans would be nice once in a while.

.

The explanation says it all
