Pralaya is of three types - Naimittik, Praakrit, and Aatyantik. Among them whichever occurs in the end of the Kalp is called Naimittik (or Braahm) Pralaya. When a person attains Moksh, it is called Aatyantik Pralaya. And whichever occurs in the end of two Paraardh that is called Praakrit Pralaya

Human's one Nimesh is called Maatraa - means whatever time is taken in pronouncing one syllable or to eyelid.

Such 15 Nimesh = 1 Kaashthaa
Such 30 Kaashthaa = 1 Kalaa
Such 15 Kalaa = 1 Naadikaa
2 Naadikaa = 1 Muhoort
30 Muhoort = 1 Day and 1 night
30 Days and nights = 1 Month
12 Months = 1 Year .. the same year is 1 day and night in Dev Lok
360 Years = 1 Divine year
12,000 Divine years = 1 Chaturyug
1,000 Chaturyug = 1 Day of Brahmaa
The same is one Kalp in which 14 Manvantar pass. In the end of this Kalp Brahmaa's Naimittik Pralaya occurs.

Naimittik pralaya
When 1,000 Chaturyug are over, Prithvi deteriorates. There is no rain for 100 years. At that time all weaker living beings die. Then Vishnu tries to merge all living beings in Himself. Thus He makes the Prithvi completely empty by merging all of its water through Soorya's (Sun) seven rays and all of its living beings in Himself. At that time influenced by Bhagavaan and strengthened by that water, Soorya's seven rays become seven Soorya. All seven Soorya continuously burn all Trilok and Prithvi becomes very hard like the back of the tortoise.

Then Shree Hari appears from Shesh Naag's mouth in the form of fire and starts burning Paataal Lok from bottom. That fire reaches Prithvi after burning seven lower Lok (Paataal) and then burns it also; then it proceeds towards Bhuvar Lok and Swarg Lok, and after burning them that fire starts revolving at the same place. Thus after being burned the whole Trilok looks like a red hot disc. At that time the habitation of Bhuvar Lok and Swarg Lok move to Mahar Lok, but they cannot live there because of the intense heat, so they finally move to Jan Lok.

After this Vishnu produces Samvartak named multi-colored and multi-sized clouds form His mouth air and pacifies the fire. Then there is water all around. The clouds cover even those Lok which are above Bhuvar Lok. They rain for more than 100 years. This is what happens in the end of the Kalp.

When water goes beyond Saptarshi (Great Bear), this whole Trilok becomes like huge ocean. The air emerged from Vishnu's mouth and His breath continue to blow up to 100 years. At that time Vishnu drinks all His Vaayu and sleeps with the help of His Maya power Yog Nidra on His Shesh Nag bed. While this Pralaya occurs, sleeping of lord Vishnu is called "Nimitt". Till He is awake, Universe's all activities go on and when He sleeps, the Universe also disappears in Him.

As Brahmaa's day is of 1,000 Chaturyug, in the same way, when he is absorbed in Vishnu, his night also is of the same time period (1,000 Chaturyug). After the night is over, Vishnu awakes and takes Brahmaa's form and creates the Universe again

ATYALIKA PRALAYA

This refers to three types of distress: Adhyatmika(spiritual), Adhidaivika (beyond the divine) and Adhibhantika(beyond the elemental order). The first distress consist of physical and mental discomfort as also astral. the second due to elemental imbalance and the third due to adverse interaction among the being, such as snakes or ghost. at the atyantika pralay all this distress also disappear or they loose their ordered sequence.

Prakrit pralaya

Thus you heard about Naimittik and Avaantar Pralaya occurred in the end of the Kalp. Now listen to Praakrit Pralaya. Because of no rains, when all Lok are destroyed and all Vikaar (from Mahat Tattwa to Vishesh) get deteriorated then water absorbs Prithvi's attribute smell. When Prithvi's smell is gone, Prithvi is destroyed. At that time water start flowing all around with a great force. Then fire absorbs water's attribute Ras; as Ras is drawn from water, water is also destroyed and takes the form of Agni (fire) and spreads all over. Then Vayu absorbs Agni's attribute light and Agni's put out and wind starts blowing all around. Then sky absorbs the air's attribute "touch" and Vayu becomes still and Aakash (sky) becomes without any covering. At that time only sky is illuminated without any Roop (form), Ras, Sparsh (touch), and Gandh (smell). In the last, this sky's attribute "sound" is absorbed by Bhootaadi. Paanchboot and Indriyan are also absorbed in this Bhootaadi and then remains only Ahankaar. This Ahankar is Taamas, so it is absorbed by Saatwik Mahat Tattwa Buddhi.

As Prithvi and Mahat Tattwa are the two limits of inside of the Universe, in the same way they are the limits of the external world also. They also get absorbed in the same way. So the whole Universe - all the seven dweep(island), seven seas, seven Lok, all are absorbed in water, water is absorbed in fire, fire is absorbed in air, air is absorbed in sky, and sky is absorbed in Bhootaadi Mahat Tattwa. Then all these are absorbed by Mool prakriti

The equilibrium state of the three Gun (Sat Gun, Rajo Gun, and Tamo Gun) is called Prakriti or Pradhaan. This Pradhaan is the cause of the Universe. This Prakriti is both with attributes and without attributes, that is why its attributes - shown form are absorbed in its hidden form.

Apart from this Prakriti, there is a pure, Akshar, immortal and omnipresent which is also a part of Paramaatmaa. The same is in the whole Universe. When attained, Yogee doesn't come back to this world. The hidden Prakriti and Purush are also absorbed in Paramaatmaa. The same Paramaatmaa is described as Vishnu in Ved and Vedaant (Upanishad etc).

At the time of pralaya the when prakriti become assimilated in pramatama(supreme being) this is called prakritic pralay in which all the three gunas become tottaly seperate and the world will be reduce to its elemental form

Here is another alternative for measurement of time:

Its based on 'battling' of eye-lids which differentiates us humans fro 'god' who dont bat their eyelids

18 winks = 1 kashtam
30 kashtam = 1 kala
30 kala = 1 vinadi
60 vinadi = 1 naazhigai / ghati = 24 minutes

2 naazhigai / ghati = 1 muhurtha
30 muhurtha = 1 day = 24 hours

or

60 naazhigai / ghati = 1 day.

Another way is to take 'truti' as the basic unit.
Truti is the time taken for a needle to prick a lotus leaf.

60 truti = 1 prana (1 inhale + 1 exhale = 1 prana)
6 pranas = 1 vinadi
60 vinadi = 1 naazhigai
(and the rest continues as before.)

Another way of calculation is like this.

1 day = 10 jaamam.

10 jaamam = 30 muhurthas = 60 ghatis.

1 jaamam = 3 muhurthas = 6 ghatis

1 jaamam = 6 x 24 = 144 minutes = 2 hours, 24 minutes.

The further division of time until the basic unit is like this.

1 ghati / naazhigai = 60 vinadi / vighati = 24 minutes
1 vinadi = 60 lipta
1 lipta = 60 viliptas
1 vilipta = 60 para
1 para = 60 tatapras.

So a day was divisible into

60 x 60 x 60 x 60 x 60 x 60 =3,60,00,000 basal units of tatapara

according to hindu system of time measurement.

Nice job, Rajnish and ananya.
Rajnish wrote about dissolution. Let me write about creation. If you read both dissolution and creation, then you will find that many events are common - but reversed. For example, if in creation the events are in order A,B,C,D, then in dissolution it is D,C,B,A.
In the beginning, there was Pradhan. It was unmanifest in the sense that cannot be perceived with our ordinary senses. Pradhan is the substratum on which this entire cosmos is built.
Pradhan got divided into two categories - 1. material nature i.e. Prakriti and 2. living entities.
Lord Vishnu glanced at Prakriti. Then three modes of material nature became manifest. They are sattvik (goodness), rajasik(passion) and tamasik(ignorance).
Initially these three modes were combined into one single primordial unit called mahat-tattva. From mahat-tattva came, the sense of I'ness. From this sense came physical sensations, the senses, the mind. Then came the three modes.
Then came the eleven gods who preside over various sense perceptions.
All the above worked together to form a huge universal egg. Lord Vishnu himself appeared from that egg. He was inside water. A lotus sprang forth from his navel. The stem of the lotus grew long so that the lotus appeared outside water.
Lord Brahma appeared from that lotus. He created 14 parts of the material universe. These parts are
1. Satya
2. Tapa
3. Jana
4. Mahar
5. Swarg
6. Bhuvar
7. Bhu
8. Atal
9. Vital
10. Sutal
11. Rasaatal
12. Talaatal
13. Mahaatal
14. Paataal
Lord Brahma himself resides in Satya lok.
