"I'd really never planned anything," admits Nikkhil Arya, who's currently playing the lead roles in two shows — 'Kesar' and 'Rabba Ishq Na Hove'. "I was based in Pune and used to frequent Mumbai for our family business," reveals Nikkhil, "And on one such trip I met designer Hemant Trivedi, who lived close to my aunt's place. He casually suggested that I give modelling a shot. That's when I got a portfolio done," he recalls. And from then on there's been no looking back for this go-getter. "Fortunately, I didn't have to wait too long for work and the first assignment that I bagged was a Pankaj Udhas video."
From there, he went on to do a number of commercials, and serials were a gradual progression. "Serials too happened by chance," smiles Nikkhil. "I was quite content doing commercials and wasn't really aspiring to do serials. But when the offer came, I decided to take it up."
Now, films are on his mind, he confesses candidly. But he's in no hurry and would rather wait for the right offer than jump in and take up anything that comes his way. "By the grace of God, it has been a steady rise for me so far. So, I prefer waiting for the right script and banner." A self-confessed workaholic, even if he wishes for a day off, at the end of it he wants to get back to work. "By evening I start getting bored and can't wait to get back to work," he says. The age-old comment that 'models are wooden-faced' may not apply to him. But he's not against such comments because, as he explains, "There are some models who tend to be stiff on the screen. Also, there are some others who are a little vain. They don't go beyond looks and don't discover their natural side. The facade is always there and so it's difficult for them to loosen up on screen." However, there are exceptions, he adds. "Look at John Abraham. He's really good," he says.
Work apart, Nikkhil has, in the past, been linked to TV actors Gurdip Kohli and Pallavi Kulkarni, but he prefers to keep mum on the issue now. "I don't want to talk about that. I'd rather talk about my work." He's currently single, he claims. "Love will happen. But, right now my love is my work," he says. The recent MMS controversy does evoke a strong response from this actor. "It's sad. Actors work really hard for the recognition. And this is not the recognition they are looking for. Even if it's a look-alike it is maligning and very upsetting for any individual," he ends firmly
