A big hello to all the lovely people of QH forum,

Thank you for all the love and support you've showered on me and this story. 🤗

The best way I could repay you was with new updates

So this week luckily I could take some time out and am back with new chapters. I am posting whatever I wrote and divided into smaller chapters so that you guys don't get bored just by looking at the length of it. 😆

Hope you will enjoy it (Spoiler alert : Big AsYa clash is coming 😳 )

Chapter 2:

"Aapi, speak a little louder. I can't hear you." Zoya strained her ear to listen to her elder sister over the noises in the restro-bar.

"Zoya...m..e...r...i...bachchi...kaisi...h...a...i...t...u?" Aapi's voice was breaking on the other end.

"Haan Aapi, zara zor se bolo mujhe kuch sunai nahi de rahi." Zoya pressed the phone harder against her ear. It was time to get a new phone maybe.

There were some more indecipherable noise at the other end before the line got disconnected.

Zoya stared at the screen and sighed.

"How many times did I tell you to change this antique piece?" Angela pointed at the old black NOKIA model and shook her head.

"I know yaar! but I can't afford a new phone right now. The bills are killing me re." Zoya shrugged.

"Offo! stop obsessing over money my dear. Why don't you trust me for once? loan samajh ke hi le le na. Baad mein thoda thoda kar ke wapas kar dena." Angela gave her familiar disapproving look.

"Sorry Angie. I know you're always there for me, but I can't do this. You know what they say about lending money to a friend? You end up losing both your money and your friend." Zoya laughed.

Angie tried to pull off her tough act for a little longer, but finally gave up and started giggling too.

"Guys! You won't believe who's back here." Arjun rushed inside the kitchen. His voice was shaking.

"Who?" the girls said in unison.

"Just come with me, you two."

A perplexed looking Zoya and Angie followed Arjun to the dining hall.

**********************************************************************************
"Do you think he is here to complain about us?" Arjun whispered. Three of them were lurking in a corner, observing the guest from behind a pillar.

"No silly! I don't think so. There are those ladies with him, you see." Angela pointed at the ladies accompanying the guy, and they immediately captivated the gang's attention.

One of the ladies was tall, slender, with a beautiful turquoise dress adorning her svelte figure.

The other one shorter, but possessed amazing curves. She wore a black jacket casually thrown over her golden sequinned short dress. Her thick wavy locks complemented the colour of her hazel eyes. The butterfly arm-tattoo looked exquisite on her porcelain skin.

"Woohoo! The guy's in luck. Look at the way the two bombshells are eyeing him." Arjun drew in a long breath.

The man in question, looked dapper in a deep purple shirt and fitted denims. There was something magnetic about his presence, so much so that all the eyes in the room were on him.

The ladies threw fleeting, wishful glances at him and animatedly whispered among themselves.

"What's not to love? Hottie looks like a dream and he's loaded with a king-sized wallet! I bet many of the girls out there will gladly donate an eye to sleep with him, even though he is an @******" Angela snickered.

"Angie! Just shut it...kuch bhi bole ja rahi hai." a flush-faced Zoya scolded her.

"Mr. Asad Ahmed Khan! What a pleasant surprise!" Dorothy D'souza, the pleasantly plump old lady and the widowed owner of the 'Magic Lantern', greeted the man with a warm, friendly hug.

"Dorothy, my girl. Looking as gorgeous as ever!" the man planted a gentle kiss on her cheek.

"Oh dear Sir, you flatter me! To what do I owe the pleasure, tell me?" Dorothy visibly blushed.

"Looks like our malkin know this man for ages!" Arjun exclaimed.

"Ssshhh! I can't hear them." Angie shushed him. All of them listened to the conversation at the table intently.

"Meet my beautiful fiance, Mahira Ibrahim, daughter of Colonel Ibrahim. Mahira, meet Dorothy, my loveliest girl. She makes the most delicious pancakes ever and happens to own this place."
Mahira gave Dorothy a rather dry nod, which the latter returned with a warm smile.

"I am Amyra...Amy, Mahira's cousin." the other girl greeted Dorothy with a bubbly, cheerful tone so unlike her sister. "Heard so many nice things about this place, from Asad of course." she stole a glance at him and smiled. "I was dying to be here, honestly. I must say he's got a good taste in fine dining."

"Oh! he's got an excellent taste, my dear." Dorothy sounded genuinely pleased. "You guys are my personal guests. Let me tell you I've saved some of our best delicacies for our guests of honour." her wrinkled face lit up with an angelic smile.

At this moment, Zoya's phone vibrated and erupted with an yesteryear song - " phoolon ka taaron ka / sab ka kehna hai/ ek hazaron mein/ meri behna hai".

"Oh Sh*t!" Angela squealed as everyone's head turned to their seemingly safe hiding place.

"Angela. Zoya. What are you girls doing over there?" Dorothy looked a little puzzled. "Come here, I would like to introduce you to some of our guests." she beckoned them.

Angela gave Zoya an angry glare before reluctantly walking towards the table. Meanwhile, Zoya's phone was still shaking and emitting the old classic song in loop.

"I'll be there in a minute, ma'am. Just got a call from one of our old clients." Zoya hurriedly walked away, pretending to talk over her phone, before Dorothy could get her anywhere near that table.

*******************************************************************************
Zoya wanted to step as far away as possible from the dining room right now. She had to go somewhere quiet and talk to Aapi in peace.

If anyone wanted to find a little peace and quiet in a ever- busy 'Magic lantern', there was no better place than the changing room for ladies in the back side of the building. These tiny red cubicles were in demand only during the rain dances / monsoon themed parties. Rest of the times, they remained empty and offered a perfect hiding place for anyone seeking some privacy.

Zoya entered the furthest cubicle and locked it. She settled herself comfortably on the platform (which was usually used for keeping cloths) and dialed Zeenat's number.

*Aapi now-a-days have become so hyper, Allah Miyaan!* Zoya thought.

It got to her nerves sometime...her constant call and relentless worrying over Zoya's future.

Then she reminded herself how much love and selflessness were behind those worried calls and sleepless nights and her heart wanted to melt in a poodle for her Aapi.

Zoya knew that Aapi and Jiju were planning for a child for long, but things had so far not worked out for them. She herself had caught Aapi once weeping softly in the shower room, hiding behind the shower curtains. The pregnancy test kit lied on the bathroom floor, with a single red line etched like a cruel wound to her sister's heart.

Zoya was more like a daughter than a sister to her; she knew it.

A little sigh escaped her lips as she waited for Zeenat to pick up the call.

(Continued)

"Hello, Zoya?" Zeenat's voice was clear on the other end, Zoya noted with relief.

"Haan Aapi, sorry, the phone got disconnected earlier."

"Koi baat nahi babu, but you should have called back na? Tujhe pata hai aapi kitni pareshan ho jaati hai?" Aapi scolded her mildly.

"Achcha Zoya listen, remember that guy from your school, Sarfaraz? I met him in the supermarket in the other day. He has grown up so much, I couldn't even recognize him when he approached me." Zeenat sounded excited.

"Achcha? Which Sarfaraz?" Zoya stormed her brain to recall this guy but sadly it didn't ring a bell.

"He has graduated from MIT and heading a business group in New York. Can you imagine? Aur kya tehzeeb aur sanskar hai ladke main...even after spending so many years in NY, he's not forgotten his roots and culture."

"Aapi. No. Just. Nope." Zoya rubbed her temple. She knew very well where this conversation was heading to.

"Zoya, I knew you will start shouting even before I could say anything. So this time I made sure to click a selfie with him. I am sending you the picture and messaging his number. Just have a look and decide for yourself whether you want to call him or not. By the way, he'd looovee to get a call from you, he told me."

*Wow! since when did Aapi become so much forward?* Zoya had a difficult time digesting it.

"You showed him my picture too, right?" Zoya said gingerly.

"I might have. Does it matter?" Zeenat was unstoppable.

"No. I guess it doesn't. I will talk to you later Aapi. Khuda Hafiz." Zoya didn't have the energy left to explain Zeenat the inappropriateness of sharing her pictures with a perpetual stranger.

She cut the call and sat there in silence.

A loud beep announced the arrival of a message.

'1 picture message received' showed the screen.

She pressed the green button and waited for the picture to download.

*Do all Aapis with unmarried younger sisters turn this psychotic?* she wondered.

However, one idle look at the screen again and she sat up straight.

The guy smiling beside her sister in the pic was indeed a sight to behold.

He had slightly curly hair and a crooked, gorgeous smile. Kinda reminded her of Dev Patel from 'slumdog millionaire'.

"Oh! You're cute." she cooed. *Aapi, where did you find this guy?* she bit her lip and smiled, all the while checking out the guy on her screen.

She pondered whether it was time for rekindling a long lost friendship.

A trip down the memory lane made her forget about the ticking of the clock, until a faint noise startled her out of her dream land.

*There was something / or someone in the next cubicle!*

****************************************************************************************

*But nobody ever comes here!!!*

Just when Zoya thought of venturing into the other cubicle and check what's actually going on, another sound came from the cabin that rooted her to the spot.

"I just can't take it anymore." said a breathy voice. It was a girl.

"Amy, what's the matter? You're acting crazy, you know."

Zoya's heart almost leaped to her throat as she recognized the familiar deep voice from the other night.

She was instantly fascinated by the conversation. She pressed her ear against the wall and tried to listen to the conversation over the erratic pounding of her heart, probably fueled by the thrill and guilt of eavesdropping.

"Yes, I've gone crazy. Crazy for you, Asad."

"Amy!"

"Don't you know what I feel for you? Tell me you never saw it in my eyes?"

"You don't know what you're taking about, Amy."

"Yes, I know. You're Mahi's fiance. It does't stop me from feeling what I'm feeling right now. Does it?"

"I've been to your graduation party, Amy. I literally saw you growing up."

"I know that too...and you know what, I don't give f*** about how much older you are to me. I just know that I WANT YOU. Right now!" the girl's voice melted with her heavy breathing.

It was followed by a long silence. Then the girl spoke again.

"Why are you not saying something, Asad. Please look at me. Talk to me."

"What do you really want, Amy?" the guy inhaled deeply.

"I swear, I don't want to ruin Mahi's happiness or anything, but if I don't...get you once, I will get mad." the girl was sobbing now.

"Stop crying, you silly girl. What you feel right now is not love, it's infatuation. Trust me I've seen this before and it never ends well".

"I just want you once, Asad...and nobody will ever know."

A burning sensation crept up Zoya's cheeks. *This is so wrong! so very wrong.* she screamed inside, but her feet remained glued to the spot.

"I am not a kid anymore."

"Huh! you know nothing about it, Amy." there was a hint of smile in his voice.

"Teach me then." she dared him.

There was another long moment of silence, during which Zoya listened to the drumming of her own heart. Then the guy spoke again, but his voice had undergone a drastic transformation.

"Are you sure you want this, Amy?" his voice was unreadable.

"More than anything." the girl's voice trembled.

"Fine, princess." he chuckled "seduce me then."

Zoya could feel the impact of the words all the way down there. She clutched the rim of her skirt with her sweaty palms.

There were some rustling of cloths and a dull thud of something dropping to the floor (the girl's jacket, Zoya could tell).

"Oh, the things I can do to you. You've got no idea." said his husky voice.

Zoya found herself inexplicably drawn to the voice. It was this insane, almost killing urge within herself that drove her into the next act of foolishness.

She hoisted herself up on the platform without making any sound. She steadied herself for a few moments...her legs were shaking badly. Then drawing in a deep breath, she stood on her toes and peeped inside the red room.

Zoya stopped breathing as soon as her eyes fell on the two bodies entwined in each other's arms.

Oh boy!

Is that a tattoo!

A 'winged angel' covered his back almost entirely!

Zoya has never seen such an elaborate and exotic inking on anyone's skin in her life.

How could he do that to himself? It must have hurt like hell.

The girl had wrapped her legs around his bare torso. He had lifted her off the ground and pinned her against the large life-sized mirror set on the wall opposite to the door. She gasped and moaned as he brushed his lips against the nape of her neck.

He let her slide to the ground then and captured her lips in a fervent, almost feverish kiss.

The girl tried to match the passion, but she was inexperienced and too eager to please.

"Stay still" he groaned.

"Oh please...I can't!" she pleaded.

The guy laughed and silenced her with another kiss.

Zoya watched in a hypnotic trance the rhythmic rise and fall of his sculpted torso that matched his heavy breathing. That inking looked wildly attractive in motion, as if it had come to life. Bids of sweats covered his bare back, with a few red drops shining where the girls nails had clawed his skin.

Zoya felt an unnatural dizziness settling on her. She could feel the heat radiating from this wild, uninhibited act of love-making.

She couldn't take her eyes off him.

She realized with faint horror rising in her heart...she's actually turned on by THIS!!

"Unacceptable! This is sheer madness." someone screamed in her head.

"This has to STOP! NOW!"

"This is not his f****** bedroom! I am not gonna let him f*** a girl in our property!"

A different kind of emotion was rising within her now. She didn't know what it was, but it made her hate this guy even more.

Zoya silently stepped down from the platform and made a stealthy exit.

Chapter 3

Back in the dining room, Zoya saw Mahira Ibrahim sitting cross-legged in her chair. She was fiddling with her i-phone, but her eyes roamed restlessly over the crowd.

*Poor girl! Looking for her boyfriend...doesn't know yet what fate has befallen on her.* Zoya felt genuinely bad for her.

She walked towards her table and stood next to her in a politely inquisitive manner befitting of her status.

"There she is! Allah! How much time does it take for you to serve some freaking potato wedges?" Mahira barked in a way not-so-befitting of her stature though.

"I am sorry ma'am!" Zoya was still recovering from the sudden attack.

"Horrible! Your quality of service is so poor, it's unbelievable...and Jammy told me this is the best place in entire city. What a joke!" her sarcastic tone was driving Zoya mad.

*Your jammy's already spread on some other bread, lady*. she almost laughed.

"I will go and check in the kitchen, maam. I apologize for the delay but I'm sure once the food is on table, you're going to love your dining experience with us." Zoya said hastily.

"Here, take it." Mahire threw a Rs. 500 note on the table. "I know such places. Nothing moves here until you throw some bucks." she snickered.

*Oh no! You just made the worst mistake of your life, you flashy b****.*

Zoya gritted her teeth. A moment ago, she wasn't sure about it

But Mahira just took away all the doubts from her mind.

"Ma'am, you keep it. I appreciate your generosity, but we don't work like that." Zoya's smile became wider.

"By the way ma'am, I came here to tell you that your cousin, Miss Amyra was looking for you." Zoya said with a straight face.

"Amy? looking for me? where? why?" Mahira was confused.

"Uh...she was in the 'ladies room'..if you go to the back side you will find a row of tiny red cabins. She's in the cabin next to the last one." Zoya informed calmly.

"Ufff! Perfect timing. I can't find Asad also. If he comes back from the restroom and doesn't find me here, he will be very upset." Mahira moved her fingers in a way so that everyone could get a glimpse of her blingy diamond ring.

"Amy madam said." Zoya leaned closer to her "it's some girly problem. She needs you urgently."

"Mmhmm..okay, I will go and check on her, then." Mahira finally stood up.

She caught Zoya staring at her ring finger.

"It's from Tiffany's. $80000." Mahira casually informed.

She was about to leave, but gave her Zoya one last glance over her shoulders "By the time I come back, I want to see the potato wedges, frittata and soup on the table. Or else you can forget about your tips." She gave her a vicious smile and teetered away in her high heels.

*By the time you come back, I am sure you won't remember about food.* the cheeky grin on Zoya's face grew wider.

*************************************************************************************

Zoya had a new spring in her steps by the time she reached the kitchen. She hugged a busy looking Angela from behind and made her jump with shock.

"Jeez, Zoe, what's wrong with you." Angela rolled her eyes. She was wiping off the soup she'd accidentally splattered from the edge of the dish,

"Nothing baby. You want to have some fun?" Zoya playfully stroked her cheeks.

"Fun? and You? that too in the middle of a busy day?" Angie's eyes narrowed "Arjun, call a shrink. Our Zoya has gone mad."

"I am feeling perfectly fine, thank you. In fact, I've never felt better in my life. Now if you wanna watch 'Tamasha' for free, keep your eyes...and ears open." Zoya winked at a bewildered Angela.

Soon enough, noises could be heard from the back side of the restaurant. At first, there was a loud scream that startled everyone, followed by harsh slapping sounds, then someone started wailing and cursing in a high-pitch voice. In between, some muffled begging and pleading could be heard.

Then Mahira Ibrahim stormed into the dining room. She looked like a train-wreck. Tears, mixed with kohl were bleeding from the corner of her eyes. Her hair was fuzzy and all over the place. She ignored everyone's inquisitive stares and walked unsteadily towards the bar.

She picked up a large bottle of red wine and downed half of it in two large gulps.

"That would be rs. 900, Ma'am." Arjun said innocently.

Mahira gave him a glare so deadly, he stepped away from her in a hurry.

"Put it in Asad Ahmed Khan's f****** account." she hissed and took another swig of the drink.

Then she picked up her 'GUCCI' bag from the table and left the place, leaving behind hundreds of stunned eyes.

Moments later, Amyra followed her cousin's footsteps and made an unceremonious exit from the restaurant. Her eyes were red and puffy.

******************************************************************
Zoya and Angie ran to the kitchen and did a little 'cheerleader dance' before anyone could see them.

"Haha suck it morons!" Angie was beaming.

"Money-flashing idiots. See how Karma works? " Zoya jumped up and down in joy.

"Actually, agar dekha jaye toh karma did her a great favour. It must have been terrible to be engaged to such a sneaking, cheating scoundrel." Angela pondered.

"She should thank you, Zoe."

"That lady, Amyra bhi kuch kam nahi thi. Can you believe, she actually dragged him to have an affair with his fiance's cousin." Zoya couldn't help pointing it out.

She didn't disclose her little adventure to Angie fully. She just told her Mahira caught her cousin cheating with her boyfriend in the ladies' room.

*She doesn't need to know everything. Specially about Zoya's brief tryst with the naughty things.*

Zoya winced a little as flashes of his bare skin peeking from behind the enormous 'winged angel' flashed in her mind again.

*Well, what's been seen cannot be unseen, I guess!* she sighed.

Among all the jubilation, something was still bothering Zoya.

A faint instinct that everything is not fine, like she was missing something.

A familiar song playing in the distance in a loop suddenly told her what was missing.

"My phone!" Zoya shrieked. "I forgot my phone."

She ran across the dining room and all the way back to those tiny booths.

The ringtone was coming from the same cubicle where she left it.

"Wait a minute I am coming." she mumbled and stepped inside the cabin.

"Uff! there you are." her good old mobile phone was lying on the platform. She reached for it and was about to pick it up, when another hand snatched it away from her.

She whirled around and found herself staring into the familiar pair of dark brown eyes. Only this time, they were darker and red-rimmed, blazing with a cold fire.

(continued)

"So it was you, then." It was not a question.

*He knows it.*

Zoya moved to the farthest corner of the cabin, wishing to put as much distance between them as possible.

*If he even lays a finger on me, I will scream the house down.*

One look at him actually made her more nervous. He looked ghostly pale. Even the muted yellow light couldn't hide the dark circles around his eyes.

His face looked hollow and disheveled.

A sickeningly sweet smell told Zoya he had been drinking.

His forehead glistened with thin sheen of sweat. Strands of unkempt hair were sticking to it. His purple shirt was torn in half, revealing the bruises on his chest. There was a nasty cut mark on his upper lip that looked raw.

He looked like a ghost of his former handsome self. It was unnerving to see such a huge transformation in a span of few hours.

Zoya's phone, which went silent earlier, started to ring again.

"I have no idea what you're talking about. Now, please give me back my phone." Zoya decided to play dumb. That was the only way to get rid of this mess.

She made an attempt to snatch the phone out of his hand, but he turned out way too fast for a seemingly intoxicated man.

"Uh huh! not so fast." he had her wrist in a solid grip now. Before Zoya could stop him, he picked up the call and listened intently to the other end.

"What the hell are you...mmummm" she struggled to get rid of the iron grip that pressed against her mouth now.

"Sorry, does she know you?" he spoke with the casual arrogance of a man who took pride in knowing her for ages.

"Sarfaraz...uh huh...I am sorry but she can't talk to you right now. She's been a little busy." he said with the same authoritative tone.

Zoya's eyes grew wider at the mention of Sarfaraz's name. He had called her for the first time. He knew Zeenat aapi. This guy was ruining everything for her right now.

*Go to hell, Asad Ahmed Khan!*

"Baby, some Sarfaraz wants to talk to you. I told her we're busy. Now please put some cloths on, honey, or else we are going to miss your appointment for pregnancy check up. " He cuts the line and forced it back to Zoya's numb hands.

The moment Zoya recovered from the horrific impact of his last words, she threw herself at him with all her might. She slapped and hit him blindly on his chest like a mad woman.

"Why! Why! Why!" she yelled hoarsely and continued hitting him, till the pain shot up in her knuckles and her breath started failing from exhaustion.

Gasping for breath, she finally landed on the same rock-hard chest she'd been hitting for so long.

He didn't push her away. He didn't make any movement to touch her. He just stood there, allowing her to rest against his body.

"I could ask you the same question. Why?" he spoke after a long pause.

"You do realize that you were playing two women's hearts at the same time?" Zoya pushed herself away from him and leaned against the wall instead.

"I would like to think in a different way. I respected a grown-up woman's desire to spend some private moments with me." he corrected her.

"But you were already engaged to her cousin. This feels horribly wrong in so many ways! I can't even begin to tell." Zoya didn't even know why she's arguing with this man, but she said it anyway.

"You see, my concepts of love, commitment, loyalty etc are a little different from others. I surely don't expect you to understand it, but relationships and marriages are not much different from business deals.

Both me and Mahi were clear about what we wanted from our relationships. She has had her fair share of 'relationships' too, but finally decided to marry me. You know why? because I fitted the bill perfectly. She knew I could give her a life she's always dreamed of.

Believe it or not, most of the marriages are driven by convenience rather than love." He nodded his head and smiled to himself.

"Maybe I am too naive to understand such high profile 'concepts' and deals, but nobody deserves her heart to be broken in such a horrible fashion. I stand by what I did. I saved those girls from the clutch of a monster like you and I'm proud of that." Zoya felt the heat rising on her cheeks again.

"A monster! It's funny of you to say so...most people usually refer to Greek Gods while speaking of me." His eyes were fixated on the name tag attached to Zoya's waitress uniform.

"Miss...Zoya Farooqui, do you know what happened to the cat who got too curious?" the guy leaned closer without taking his eyes off her.

This disturbing closeness were doing strange things to her mind. A part of her wanted to punish him for all the awful things he had done...but the other part was getting all hot and bothered.

"Nobody dares to cross my path, Miss Farooqui. Nobody ever comes between me and the things I want." his enigmatic voice didn't make it sound any less threatening.

"I am not scared of you." it came out weaker than she imagined.

"Well, you should be. If I were you, I would be very careful. Watch where you're going." he didn't even try to conceal the sharp edge in his voice.

"You know, threats are only for weak people. I see a man who's scared to face his own demons, he keeps threatening others with consequences whenever someone dared to stand in his wrongful ways." Zoya looked straight into his eyes.

"The next time you even attempt to analyze my actions, let me remind that you know absolutely nothing about me. So stick to your own business and keep your nose out of mine." He took out a pint sized bottle from his trouser's pocket, took a sip out of it and smacked his lips.

Then, to Zoya's utmost horror, he emptied the entire bottle over her. She cried out in shock and jerked backwards, but the liquor was already splattered all over her.

"We are even NOW!" were his last words before storming out of the cabin.

*************************************************************************

Well, that's all for now. Hope to be back soon. Till then, keep loving AsYa. ❤️
