What is normal rent in US?

Hey people

Out of topic. I am writing a story set in US. And, I dont live there. Heck, havent even been there. And I know many in this Forum are from there... So, can you guys approximately tell me the rent, for an apartment in, probably a mid-level town there? For a single room sublet... Approx.

New York and LA have an average of $3000+ per month, but if you want a okay apartment in a shady part of town, it could go for cheaper even in big cities.

If it isn't a metropolitan city, then it is definitely under $1500, smaller cities even $1000/month. Honestly, it depends, there is so much variation so you can get away with anything you write.

It depends on the state. I live in IL in suburbs about 20 miles from the city (Chicago). Depending on the rooms/amenities it varies anywhere from $800-$3000+.
