Chapter Ten: I will never leave your side and I will always hold on to you forever

Next day

Badi bi was still in her study only till morning. Zoya had come with the morning coffee and asked "aap nahi ayengi, doctor saab achuke hai, Asad ki ankhon ki patti kholne" Badi bi said "nahi, tum jao, tumhara vahan rehna bohot zaroori hai, mera nahi, main bad main mil loongi, ab tum jao, Asad tumhara rah dekh raha hoga". Asad bandage from his eyes were being removed. He sat there nervous as to what will happen after his bandage is removed. Zoya held his hand to give him assurance that everything will be okay. Asad was now more worried that Badi bi again fixed his engagement without consulting him. He was really irked with that. He wanted to talk to her regarding his decision. All these thoughts were going on in his mind that doctor removed the last round of bandage now his eyes were covered with two cotton balls. Doctor took them one by one and asked him to slowly open his eyes. Doctor told to close all the curtains so that bright light has to be avoided. Zoya was closing all the curtains. Usma was sitting besides him seeing what the doctor was doing and asking childish questions to the doctor to which he was replying convincingly. Doctor asked "Asad aap sabse pehle kisko dekhna chahenge?" Asad remained quiet a while imagining that Badi bi is may be standing there but then Usma said "yeh bhi koi poochne wali baat hai, mamu zoya phoppi k dekhna chahte hai, are mere honewali mumani idhar ayiye, parde sab teek hai" Usma called Zoya mumani for the first time. Both Asad and Zoya felt happy at her addressing. Zoya came over and sat in front of Asad. Zoya held Asads hands indicating to open his eyes.

Asad slowly opened his eyes. Zoya was looking at him and asking Asad, "apko sab kuch dikh raha haina, batayiye na, you are able to see everything right" Asad kept quiet without looking at Zoyas direction at all. Zoya now got worried and asked "Doctor, please tell is there something wrong, Cant he see anything?" Doctor examined Asads eyes and told that the wounds have healed properly and nothing to worry. Doctor asked Asad was he able to see. Still Asad was silent. Zoya lost her patience now. She yelled khuda ke liye batayiye ki aap dekh sakte hai yah nahi" Asad asked "kyun mein andha hogaya tho mujse mohabbat karna chod dogi" Zoya was taken aback at his question "Asad aap yeh kya keh rahe hai, main aisa kyun sochungi" Asad "tho phir aap itna hyper kyun horahi hai?" Zoya "Asad main hyper hoon, itne din se din raat main yeh dua kar rahi hoon, ki apko aankhon ki roshini vapis milajaye, aur aap hai ki mujpe shak kar rahe hain" Asad tho apki dua qubool hogayi" Zoya "eh" Asad "main sab dekh sakta hoon" Zoya breathed a sigh of relief. Doctor prescribed some medicines and took leave wishing Asad complete recovery soon. Usma ran to tell Dadi that her mamu can see everything. As soon as everybody left Zoya just attacked Asad with her tiny fists only to be caught by him and pulled her into his arms. Zoya said "apne muje dara diya, main apse naraz hoon, aur poora din baat bhi nahi karungi" she pouted only to be kissed by Asad on her shoulders "aap chahe bhi tobhi mujse naraz nahi hosakti" Asad said in a husky voice. Zoya was now almost sitting on Asad's lap when Usma ran in. Zoya sprang away from Asad and Usma took her place. She settled in his lap and kissed him on his cheeks. "Mamu yeh kitna hai batayiye," she showed numbers with her fingers in front of him to assure that he can see. Asad "shaitan kahin ki" and Usma giggled.

Badi bi was still in her study hadn't come out since yesterday night having heard Asad's accusations. Zoya told Asad about it that dadi didn't want to be present when his bandage was removed. Asad understood that Dadi was pissed, he too yesterday crossed lines when talking to her. He thought of asking apology to her and also convincing her about Zoya. He got up from the bed and went towards the study. He entered the study to see old albums, photos of his and Zeenats childhood, the toys they used to play, their small clothes, their pram, their story books etc all lay strewn on the floor and Badi bi sitting amidst caressing them with her old wrinkled fingers. Asad couldn't see his Badi bi emotionally broken. He ran upto her and suddenly jerking all the items on her lap and kept his head on her lap. "Badi bi, muje maaf kar dijiye, maine apse bohot batameeze baat ki, I m sorry" Asad began to cry. Badi bi just raked her fingers throught his hair and said "lekin tumne kuch galat tho nahi kiya, sach kadva hota hai Asad, aur main sachchai se itni salon tak bhag ti rahi hoon, tumhare lafzon ne muje iss baat ka ehsas dilaya ki zindagi main aage badne ke liye hume buri yaadon ko bhookar sirf achi batein yaad karni chahiye, tum maafi kyun mang rahe ho, tumne kuch galat nahi kiya" Asad "lekin badi bi maine apko..." Cut off by Badi bi "Asad maine hamesha apni shaan aur garima ko ahemiyat di thi, lekin pehli baar main haar gayi sacchi mohabbat ke saamne haar gayi, jis tarah se Zoya ne tumhara khayak rakha shayad main bhi nahi kar pati, bohot mohabbat karte ho tum usse, ki aankhon par patti band eke bavajoot tumne pehchan liya ki vo zoya nahi hai, barso pehle mere saath jo hua, vo zeenat ke saath na ho, issliye maine zeenat aur anwar ka nikah ke khilaf gayi, lekin phir vo ek tarah ka jalan ban gaya, Zeenat ko sari khushi mili Anwar se. Anwar jaise maine socha usse bhi bohot acha insaan nikla, meri apni haar baradasht nahi kar payi Asad, sachchai ko apna nahi saki, lekin kal tumhari baton ne muje ehsaas dilaya ki mohabbat main bhi ladna padta hai, tabhi jeet hasil hoti hai, kabhi kissi ko kuch asani se mila hai kya, khuda sabki imtihaan leta hai, mohabbat ka bhi, tum aur Zoya usse awwal number se paas huye, kash main bhi thoda sa himmat barso pehle dikhaya hota tho aaj muje bhi meri mohabbat se yoon marhoom rehna nahi padta." Asad "badi bi apne muje maaf kiya" Badi bi "maine kabhi tume galat samaja hi nahi, thi maafi ka tho sawal hi paida nahi hota" Asad "Badi Bi vo main zoya ke bare main..." cut off by dadi "uto Asad aaj sham ko tumhari sagaai hai, aur tum in kapdo main sagaai karoge kya" Asad shot up, he was confused again was Badi bi again telling him to get engaged inspite of knowing that he loves zoya so much. "Aise kya dekh rahe ho Asad, poochoge nahi ki ladki koun hai" Asad "koun" Badi bi "zoya" Asad's eyes shone like sun and he gave a teary smile to Badi bi. "maine tho zoya ko pasand kar liya tha, par tum meri poori baat sunte tab na, khair chodo, ab jao aur sagaai ki tayyari karo, Sara Bhopal ko niyota doongi aaj, aaj main bohot khush hoon." Asad joy knew no bounds. He just left from there

Zoya was combing her hair humming a song after having a bath and was standing in front of the mirror. Asad came running inside and without notice picked her in bridal style and twirled around with her. Zoya yelled "Asad muje neeche utariye please, chakkar araha hai" Then only Asad stopped and put her down. "Zoya I m so happy today" Zoya "kya baat hai itne khush kyun ho?" Asad "badi bi maan gayi" zoya "kiss baat ke liye" Asad "humare rishte ke liye, aaj hamari sagaai hai Zoya, I cant believe it" Zoya didn't show any surprise gesture and Asad was puzzled "kyun zoya aap khush nahi ho" Zoya "yeh tho main pehle se hi janti thi, kuch nayi baat karo na Asad" Asad "aap janti thi ki aaj hamari sagaai hai" Zoya "hmm hmmm" and she turned to comb her hair again only to be turned back by Asad "tho apne bataye kyun nahi" Zoya "vo kya haina main badla lena chahti thi" Asad "badla kaisa badla" Zoya "vo subah jo apne natak kiya patti kholne ke baad uska badla" Asad saw that Zoya was being mischeivious, he just caged her between his arms and pinned her to the wall behind "aur aab sazaa ki bari" He leaned to kiss her and Zoya resisted but soon gave in when his lips met hers. Their fingers intertwined was gripping on to one another and Zoya raised her one leg and made patterns with her toe on her other leg enjoying the kiss and responding too.

Finally the Engagement

Asad was in a pure white sherwani specially designed by Bhopals best designers and Zoya too was in a white attire with red embroidery work. Badi bi has specially ordered the lehenga for Zoya from one of her family zardosi designers. Needless to say it was expensive. Zoya was given Badi bi's anscetoral jewellery to wear from which she chose only one necklace that matched with her outfit. She wore red and white bangles in order to match her outfit. Her hands were adorned with red colored mehndi making them more beautiful. Finally the moment arrived when Asad and Zoya exchanged rings. Asad took Zoyas slender hands and slided along its length and took his own sweet time to make her wear the solitaire ring which shone against her white hands. Zoya too made Asad wear the ring. They were admiring each other and couldn't take eyes off from each other. The loud clapping session brought them back from trance. Asad just wanted to take Zoya in his arms and tell her that she was looking simply beautiful but he was not getting a chance at all by the constant wishing of the invitees and gracing the occasion with his presence. Asad simply felt jealous that those men who had come to wish were getting more chance to handshake with Zoya and he was simply standing there grinning like an idiot. Soon Zoya was somewhere else standing along with a swarm of ladies, who were looking at her dress and jewellery and was touching her and feeling her you know the old ladies who are more interested in such things, comparison of their things with the bride things, which is the sole purpose of their visit to such functions and then the gobbling up of food. Zoya was entertaining everybody with a wide smile and the moment she looked towards Asad somebody would have turned her face with their hands to inspect her. She was actually irked with this touchy behavior of the ladies but what to do all of them were Badi bi's close acquaintances.

When free food is there, how come Haseena will not be there. She too arrived there shamelessly along with her whole family despite whatever transpired between them. Tanveer was fuming with jealousy seeing Asad so happy with Zoya. She was burning like hot molten lava. She was not understanding that how come Zoya agreed to marry a mad man, may be for his riches, perhaps she too should have done that then on this occasion she would have been standing there instead of Zoya receiving all the attention. She thought she still had chance since she didn't know that Asad and Zoya loved each other. If she somehow traps Asad in front of the whole people here then even Badi bi cant say anything and has to say yes to their marriage. She made up her mind by hook or by crook she should somehow trap Asad.

By this time Asad had had enough and resovled that he will some how meet Zoya, he couldnt wait anymore. He took a piece of paper and wrote on it to meet in his room, and he has got some special gift for her. He dropped it on Zoyas lap and she opened to read it and looked at Asad who standing at a distance now. He signaled her with his hands to come to his room. She got up to go only to be tugged by an old lady. She was blessing her and giving her a tabeej that she had brought from a holy place. How could Zoya deny it. She obliged and thought will go after a while.

Tanveer saw Asad going to his room and followed him. He entered his room and switch on the lights and went to washroom and when he came back he saw that lights were off and a figure was standing against the dim moonlight behind the flowly white curtains. He went upto her "Zoya apne lights band kyun kiya" He received a reply by tinkling of her bangles. Asad "what" Again the bangles tingled "kya aap aaj kuch na bholne ki kasam khayi hai?" Again bangles tinkled. Asad had enough "Zoya please yeh ankh micholi band kijiye" The shadow moved away and suddenly a song started playing in the background "raat akeli hai, bhuj gaye diye, ake mere paas, kaano main mere, job hi chahe kahiye...jobhi chahe kahiye... Raat akeli hai." The figure wriggled like a worm behind the curtains. Asad was confused why Zoya would dance like this, she did not need to seduce him because it was him who called her to his room. He kept his hands on his forehead tyring to decipher what was going on. When ever he tried to see the shadows face it turned away and it pissed him off he went to turn off the lights only to be stopped by the shadow again with her moves. The shadow put a duppatta around Asads neck and pulled him back before he could turn the lights on. The shadow kept on doing something or the other to stop Asad from going away but without coming near to him. Asad was hell pissed, why Zoya was behaving in a strange way. He moved to the window side now since the shadow was standing there but the figure again moved away from there and Asad saw Zoya in the garden with Usma from the window. He looked back at the figure and realized that its not Zoya. Then who the hell is she. This time he covered the distance in 2 - strides and turned on the lights. What he saw in front of him swept his feet. Tanveer. Tanveer gave out a yell at that moment alarming all the invitees and the inhabitants of the house. Boom she was standing there with her sleeves torn and almost her upper part of clothes ripped apart. Asad turned away immediately and was going to exit the room, everybody entered the scene and saw what happened.

Tanveer at once started her drama Dekhiye Badi bi apke pagal pote na, mere saath kya kiya, raat ki andhere main mujse zabardasti karne ki koshish ki" Hasina "hayee Allah meri bachi, iss pagal ko koi aur nahi mila kya" turning to Badi bi "badi bi yeh teek nahi hua, apke iss pagal pote ne aaj meri beti ki izzat lootne ki koshish ki hai, hume insaf chahiye" By this Zoya came running to witness what was happening. She saw Tanveer in Asad's room with all her clothes ripped apart, she looked upto Asad who was indicating with this eyes that he did nothing. Zoya went upto Tanveer and gave a bed sheet to cover herself. Seeing Zoyas concern Tanveer started again "dekho zoya, tumhare mangetar ne meri saath kya kiya hai, inhone apne pagalpan ki doure main shayad muje aap samaj liya hoga, lekin main kya karti, akhir main ek ladki hoon, kitna ladti, main keh rahi thi ki muje jane de, aur yeh Zoya Zoya karke mujpar haq jata rahe the" Asad roared "Tanveer tum iss had tak gir sakti ho maine socha nahi tha, yeh mera kamra hai, aur tum mere kamre kaise ayi, yeh merea ghar hai, main apne ghar par kahin bhi jaa sakta hoon, lekin jawab tumhe dena hoga kit um mere kamre main kyun ayi aur bohot der se main yeh natak dekh raha tha" Tanveer "Asad shayad tumhe pata nahi ki tumne apne pagalpan mein muje Zoya samaj liya aur mere saath, mana ki tumne kuch janbhooj kar nahi kiya, lekin jo hua teek nahi hua, ab main kya karoon. Koun muje apnayega, koun mujse nikah karega" She faked her tears. Zoya was looking at Asad again. She knew that Asad was not mad but still how the situation transpired into an ugly game and she was at a fail to understand not that she did not believe Asad, of course she trusted him completely more than herself. But why should a girl do such kind of things in front of everybody.

Badi bi was on silent mode seeing the things transpire. Everybody started to gossip about Asad's act. Usma was also silently witnessing everything. Suddenly she came forward and asked Tanveer "tho Miss Tanveer, apko kisne bataya ki mere mamu pagal hai, unhe pagalpan ka doura padta hai" Tanveer proudly told "Asad ne aur kissne" Usma "yeh lo, gayi bhains pani main, koi pagal bhala yeh bhota hai ki main pagal hoon, kabhi kissine suna hai" She asked the people and everybody "nahi" Usma "isse saaf zahir hai ki yeh jhoot bol rahi" Tanveer vehemently argured "lekin Asad ne mujse khud kaha tha, ki usse pagal pan ke doure padte hai aur main uske saath zindagi bitane se mana kar diya, issliye iss tarah se badla liya mujse" Zoya now saw that tanveer again and again saying the Asad did this in his madness while Asad didn't have any kind of mental derangement, so she understood that Tanveer wants to take advantage of the situation. Zoya retorted "Asad kabhi aisa kuch nahi kar sakte, muje unpar poora yakeen hai, aur vo pagal nahi hai samji, unhe koi bimari nahi hai, aur tum yeh pagalpan ka jaap band karo, yahan koi tumhari baat ko kharidne wala nahi hai, samji tum, tumne hamesha Asad ko apne jaal main phasane koshish ki, jab vo nahi hua tho, dhoke se phasane koshish kar rahi ho." Tanveer "Zoya main janti hoon ki tumne iss nikha ke liye haan kyun kiya, aur ab sabke samne usse pagal na kehkar tum yeh sabit karna chahti ho ki tum kitni mahan ho, actually tum bhi Asad se paise ke liye nikah kar rahi ho, aur jo galati maine ki, vo tum nahi karna chahti ho, haina, itni asani se Asad ko jane nahi de sakti"

At that time she felt a hot blow on her cheek from Badi bi "kya kaha tumne Asad ne tumhe Zoya samaj kar yeh sab kiya" Tanveer "aap muje par haath kyun utarahi hai apne pote ko kyun nahi dant thi" Badi Bi "kyunki mera Asad band ankhon se bhi zoya ko pehchan sakta hai, jab uska accident hua tha, ankhon par patti bandi thi, jab nurse ko Zoya samaj ne ka dhoka nahi kiya, tumhe kaise karega? issliye, muje tumhari kissi bhi baat par yakeen nahi, ki Asad ne Zoya samaj kar tumhare saath yeh sab kiya, aur ek aur baat Zoya ne nikah ke liye haan issliye kiya kyunki Asad aur Zoya ek dusre se beintehaa mohabbat karte hai, tumhari tarah nahi jiski nazar hamari doulat par hai, tum uski pair ki jooti bhi nahi ban sakti, samji, ab jitna jaldi hosake, yahan se chali jaon, varna aur beizaat hone se main tumhe nahi bacha paungi, aur yahan jitney bhi log agar yeh samajte hai ki mera Asad gunahgaar hai tho vo bhi jaa sakte hai, muje koi aitraaz nahi hai, muje sirf mere bacho ki fikr, baaki sab jaye bhaad main" She walked taking Asad, Zoya and Usma along with her to the hall with rest of the guests following them disgustingly looking at Tanveer. "Are aajkal kaise kaise ladkiyan hai jo apne fayde ke liye kitna bhi neecha gir sakte hai." Soon another gossip started.

After the function when everybody left. Asad and Zoya met in the garden. They both were craving for each other since evening but then suddenly things too turned ugly towards later evening. Asad was sitting on the big swing and Zoya with her head on his shoulders and her hands holding Asad's both were looking up the sky and staring into vacumn. Suddenly Asad said "thank you zoya"Zoya kissiliye Asad" Asad "mujpar yakeen karne ke liye" Zoya "Asad please thank you mat boliye, hum dono humsafar ban jaa rahe hai, aur yeh mera pehla kadam hai, agar bharosa aur yakeen nahi hota hai tho nikah kayam nahi rehta hai, aur muje aap par khud se bhi zyadaa bharosa hai" Asad seeing her trust on him saw how much lucky he was to get her in her life as his life partner. Asad said "chahe job hi hojaye main apka saath kabhi nahi chodunga, har takleef main, har gam main, main apke saath rahunga, to which Zoya assured "main bhi hamesha apke saath rahaungi, chahe kuch bhi ho, khushi ho yah gam hum hamesha saath rehenge, aap muje apne aap se door karenge tab bhi main apko nahi chondungi, abto zindagi bhar ke liye musibat bankar gale padgayi hoon" Asad "aur muje yeh haseen musibat qubool hai" And they enjoyed the night in each others warmth.
