Ramadan had officially started; Najma complained the whole day of being hungry, the heat and long days did make it that much harder but it wasn't anything too impossible to cope with. The first few days were testing but once their bodies had got used the pattern it wasn't so bad. Dilshad had set a good routine that Zoya and Najma followed, Ayaan spent most of his time sleeping and Asad went to help out in the office in Rashid's absence.
Asad could never get enough of seeing Zoya dressed in simple shalwar kameez with a scarf wrapped around her head; she looked like a mystical Arabian princess. Observing Ramadan meant that they kept a good distance between them, one that they didn't mind at all 'Ayaan, Humera's family has invited us for iftari on Sunday, please make sure you don't forget' Dilshad shouted out after him as he went back to sleep 'Ya Allah, all that boy ever does is sleep, what he will ever do no one knows'. Zoya started giggling 'Aunty it's the lack of food that is making him so lethargic, don't worry the minute Eid is here he will be his bouncing self'.
Rashid was away on a two day business trip so wasn't able to attend the iftari at Humera's. Humera was so excited about Zoya coming to her house; the minute they entered she gave her a grand tour of her place which was just as amazing as Asad's place. As the girls sat in Humera's room talking Ayaan came in wanting to spend some time with his lady love 'Zoya, Leo was looking for you' Zoya stood up 'ok...Humera I'll be back in a minute'. As Zoya left the room Ayaan started laughing 'and what is so funny...hang on...Mr Ayaan Ahmed Khan did you just lie and that to whilst you are fasting' Humera said not very impressed with him 'maybe just a little...I haven't seen you forever, so wanted to spend a few minutes...am sure Leo won't mind Zoya being with him'.
Everyone was spoilt for choice here was so much food that lay across the table, Zoya didn't know where to begin. 'Ayaan, when are your parents coming, if I am not wrong Rashid told me they would be coming for Eid' Ghaffur asked. 'They were supposed to but Abu is going to the states and won't be coming back until the end of September, Ammi asked me to join them but as I need to sort out what I am doing for the next year I decided not to go'. Ayaan missed his parents but didn't mind being so far apart, Rashid and Dilshad were just like his own and it was with them, Asad and Najma he wanted to stay with, it also meant he would always be with Humera.
'Talking of next year, has anyone been told when we find out about work placements?' Zoya enquired 'it won't be until mid-August...hopefully it if chosen it will be close by, I don't like the idea of having to move to another city' Zoya looked at Ayaan, she didn't realise that it was possible for them to have to move to a different city altogether, this was something she would have to discuss with Asad the last thing she wanted was to be away from him.
It wasn't long before the holy month of Ramadan soon came to an end. Rashid had managed to make it back in time for Eid, there was a lavish party held by the Khan family at their residence, it was the first Eid that Zoya was going to celebrate truly being part of a family, her family. The morning was filled with lots of cooking and running around getting ready for the party in the evening. Zoya wore an outfit that Dilshad had brought for her and Najma just in different colours, as they got ready Najma ran downstairs to meet everyone. Zoya had not seen Asad since last night, this morning he had left for the Mosque early and then was busy helping preparing for tonight.
'Tamatar, where is Zoya?' Asad asked as he continued to look behind her 'she is still getting ready Bhaijaan, she was helping me first, shall I go and call her?' 'No, it's ok...I can do that myself' he said winking at his little sister who started to giggle. Asad knocked on Zoya's door 'Tamatar, you don't need to knock come in' she shouted. Asad walked in, he leant against the frame of the door and soaked in her beauty, she looked stunning 'mashAllah' Zoya turned around upon hearing his voice 'Asad' she whispered before she ran into his open arms Eid Mubarak Zoya' he said as he kissed the top of her head Eid Mubarak to you too'.
'Do you know how amazing you look?' 'Asad even in my faded jeans and hooded top, the way you look at me makes me feel like I look amazing so in this...I can only imagine' Asad tapped the tip of her nose with his finger 'come on lets go down, the guest will start arriving soon...and for once I want you by my side all night' Zoya started smiling 'really?' 'Yes really'.
Zoya saw a few familiar faces as she walked around with Asad and Dilshad, and then was introduced to a few new ones. Zoya felt her heart swell every time Dilshad proudly introduced her as her daughter in law and every time Asad called her his fianc.
'Zoya, I have a surprise for you' Humera said in excitement 'what' Humera rolled her eye 'it wouldn't be one if I told you know would it' Zoya started laughing 'ok, then where is it' Humera dragged Zoya by her hand and the told her to close her eyes 'ready...1..2..3...open' Zoya opened her eyes to see Priya standing before her, letting out a screech Zoya ran towards her hugging her like there was no tomorrow.
'What are you doing here...when did you come?' Priya started laughing 'I came now and I have come because it is Eid...and also there is only three weeks left until the academic year, I wanted to be here to find out about our placements next week'.
Zoya, Humera and Priya sat in the garden talking to no end, on the other side Ayaan, Asad and a few of Rashid's younger employees stood engrossed in their own conversations. Zoya sat observing how Priya's eyes kept travelling to the other side of the lawn 'Priya...what is it that you keep looking at...are you ok?' Priya gave Zoya a nervous smile 'nothing...I...I mean yes I am fine...I'm hungry shall we get some food' Zoya and Humera followed Priya to the buffet table where they filled their plates with the yummiest food. 'Hang on one minute' Zoya said as she walked towards Asad 'hey you ok' Asad asked as she approached him 'yes, I just wanted to ask...' Ayaan cut what Zoya was about to say short by jumping in with introductions 'Zoya have you met Abu's finest' he said as he pointed towards three young men standing in front of her. Zoya shook her head and looked at Asad looking a little shy, Asad took her hand into his Zoya this is Ray, he is on the legal team, this is Neil he is one of the senior managers of our PR department and this is Shaan, he is still studying but has joined the company as part of his work experience. Zoya smiled at the politely and then tugged at Asad's hand letting him know she wanted to talk to him 'Asad, we were all going to get something to eat...you guys want to join us' Asad started smiling 'sure...we'll meet you by the buffet table'.
As the three girls were joined by the 5 boys a lot of fun and laughter pursued, they enjoyed one another's company. Neil took an extra liking to Priya, something that she definitely reciprocated, by the end of the evening Neil and Priya exchanged numbers. She was teased by Zoya and Humera to no end, but they were happy, especially as Asad had said that Neil was a really nice person, someone who had worked with his father for a long time.
