Hi All,
I have started a new short story on ASYA. The plot of my story has nothing to do with the current track. Please read and a humble request to all of you to please leave comments below as that is the only encouragement I would get to continue the story.
Love Happens
Character Sketch:
Asad Ahmed Khan was the most eligible bachelor of Bhopal. At 29 he was a self made man who rose to great heights due to his hard work and had only one goal in life - To provide the best of what money could buy for his Ammi, Dilshaad Ahmed Khan and his darling sister Najma Ahmed Khan. He did not believe in love and relationships. He had seen his Ammi cry herself to sleep after his father left them for another woman who had what they didn't, MONEY. He had promised himself to never fall in love, but marry he wanted to, only so that his Ammi would not be alone after his sister was married off.
Zoya Farooqui was what any girl wanted to be. Though she was an adopted child she never felt like one. She was the life of her Aapi n Jeeju's house and the light in their lives. At 25 she was just what any 25 year old girl would be like, full of life, wanting to live her life to the fullest and waiting for her prince charming to come and sweep her off her feet until she realized she was different. He did come but not the way she had read in her romantic novels and not the way she saw in bollwood movies.
All the other characters are the same as in the show.
Chapter 1
Asad was just back from work and immediately went to his room to freshen up when he heard his mother call out to him to join her in the living room. As Asad settled himself next to his Ammi his sister brought his steaming cup of Black n bitter coffee. He thanked her and raised his eyebrows asking her what their mother wanted to talk about. Najma looked at the table and Asad noticed a whole lot of photographs strewn across the table. He noticed the photographs were of different girls and he realized his mother was looking for a girl to fix his alliance. He rolled his eyes and Najma burst out laughing at his expression. Dilshaad scolded her with her eyes and in the sweetest tone possible addressed her son.
"Asad look, these are all the girls I've shortlisted for you. Look Beta, which one you like the most?" Asad was just not interested. He looked at his mother and sighed "Ammi, how many times have I told you I will not marry. I don't want to marry. I'm happy in this little family that we have and don't want to include anyone else, because no one will understand the close relation that we three share. Allowing an outsider will only lead to problems. We've had our share of problems and difficulties emotionally, we can't handle more." With that he got up and left for his room to complete his pending work."
In another part of the city Zoya had just got back from a movie with her friends. As she settled in the living room trying to give her Aapi and Jiju the details of her evening out she was silenced by her Aapi for a very serious discussion. As the mood changed, Aapi told her that they were starting to look for grooms for her. Hearing this, her eyes widened and in a low and broken voice she told them she didn't want to marry, she didn't want to leave them and go. Saying this she left for her room with both Zeenat and Anwar looking at each other with confusion. Zeenat went to Zoya's room and knocked but without waiting for any response she entered the room. She found Zoya sitting on her bed staring into nothingness.
"Zoya, What's the problem darling? You know you can tell me."
"Aapi, I don't want to get married."
"Why princess?"
"Aapi I don't want to. I don't want to live away from the two of you. You are the only family I have."
"Zoya, every girl goes through what you are feeling. When you get married your husband's family will be your family." Zeenat tried explaining.
"No Aapi. No one will love me the way you and Jiju do. Ever." Saying that, tears escaped her eyes.
Zeenat was shocked to hear what Zoya said. "Princess, why do you think like that? Allaha has made everyone in pairs, I'm sure you will also find your true love soon."
Zoya shook her head in denial which disturbed Zeenat. "Not for me Aapi, I'm not that blessed. Allaha has made me but forgot to make my other half. I don't want to marry Aapi." She said with tears rolling down her cheeks.
Zeenat wiped her tears and pulled Zoya in a hug "Zoya, that's not true. Allaha loves all his children equal. You'll see when I find you your other half. You'll see how much he will love you."
With silent tears Zoya looked at her Aapi and placed Zeenat's hand on her right arm and said "He's made me different Aapi. No one will accept me with this. That's the reason I don't want you and Jiju to waste your time in groom hunting. I will never get married; I don't want to get married."
Zeenat felt her heart constrict with pain for her young sister and tears flowed freely from her eyes too. With a heavy heart she left Zoya's room.
That night Zeenat cried in her husband's arms. She cried for the little angel that had brought happiness in their lives and was now broken. Zoya couldn't sleep either, the conversation with her Aapi playing on a loop in her head. She decided to talk to her Aapi and Jiju. As she neared their room she heard muffled sounds from their room. Zoya stood outside to get a hold on her emotions before she went to talk to them. But what she heard left her stunned. The tears that had just stopped came back and stung her eyes, her heart beat faster and her head spun. She stood rooted to her spot listening to the conversation the two most important people in her life were having. As soon as she realized that there was no sound coming from her sisters room, Zoya turned around and went to her room. She lay down in her bed but sleep was far from her. She recalled the conversation that she had heard and a fresh batch of tears rolled down her cheeks. After a fight between her heart and mind she decided to do as her sister and Jiju wanted. Zoya decided she will marry for their happiness, to whoever they select. With that thought in mind she let sleep takeover and drifted into sleep which was shadowed by nightmares triggered by the emotional turmoil she was in.
Asad was in his room working on his presentation when he heard a knock on his door. He opened the door to find his sister standing with his coffee. It was a ritual for him to have a last cup of his favorite drink before he retired for bed. He took his cup thanked his sister and closed the door. He had just turned around to go back to work when he heard another knock. Opening the door he found his sister still standing there looking at him as if asking for permission. He let her in his room and sat her down on his plush sofa and asked her what the issue was.
"Bhaijaan... Bhaijaan... Vo what you said to Ammi...in the evening, about getting married..."
"Tamatar what I said is what I want." He said with finality in his tone.
"But Bhaijaan, Ammi wants you to get settled. She says you will get very lonely later on in life."
At that Asad held her hands in a gesture to assure her and said "Tamatar, I have you and Ammi. I will never be lonely."
"Bhaijaan, I will get married and go away and Ammi...Ammi..." taking a deep breath Najma continued in a soft tone "Ammi says she will not be around always. She wants to see you settled before she goes too."
That shook him and he looked at his sister whose eyes brimmed with tears. Najma told him how after he came to his room their Ammi was in tears thinking about his future and how he will manage to live without anybody to come home to. He looked at his sister and holding her hand promised her he will think about the whole thing before taking a decision and that he will talk to their Ammi the following morning.
As Asad went out the next morning for breakfast he immediately noticed his Ammi's sad eyes. He made her sit down and held her hands "Ammi... is my marriage so important to you?"
"Asad it's not about important for me, it's important for you too. You have to understand beta" But she was cut off by him.
"Ammi, you've lived alone all your life, it doesn't matter, I don't want to go through the same pain as you have nor do I want anybody to face this because of me. Please understand Ammi."
Dilshaad cupped his face and looked in his eyes and said "Asad I had the two of you as family, what will you have once Najma is married and Allaha calls me?"
"Ammi please I know you will always be there for me"
"Asad stop talking like a 5 year old, you are old enough to understand no one stays forever. I will also not be around always to look after you to love you and to care for you. You need a companion, a partner a soul mate."
Asad looked at his mother with moist eyes, the thought of her not being with him forever stabbing his heart. He saw the pain in her eyes. "Is that what will make you happy Ammi?" Dilshaad nodded her head in agreement. With a sigh Asad looked in her eyes and said "OK. But for me this is only going to be something I'm doing to make you happy, not for love and not for anything else. So when you look for a girl, you should like her, she should be compatible with you and my opinion will not be important." With that he got up and left for work.
