Chapter - 13 THE DEAL
A couple of days later, Zoya was told that she was allowed to go back and she called Asad to inform him that she was going to Sikanderabad to meet Humaira.
Zoya - "Hey, Mr. Khan. I just got discharged from the hospital and I am going to meet Humaira in Sikanderabad."
AAK - "Ok, wait. I'll come and pick you up at the hospital."
Zoya - "No there's no need for that. I'm going to take a taxi and.."
AAK - "Zoya, wait for me there. I won't let you go out there on your own. Okay?"
She sighed and agreed. She had no other choice really. Asad was always domineering her anyway but she could understand also. She was just back from the hospital and so Asad was worried anything might happen to her. It was not love; he just felt responsible for her.
True to his words, he came as fast as he could and looked angry.
AAK - "Don't do this again, alright? I've told you I'm not leaving your side until you're fully recovered."
Zoya - "I want a few minutes alone with Humaira."
Asad sighed heavily. "Take all the time you need. I will be conducting some business nearby anyway."
When they reached, Zoya alighted the car and Asad waved at her before the taxi drove out. He had assured her he will be nearby and she should call him when she was done, which was okay with her. Zoya was sure she was going to have some business with him later on.
After knowing the truth about Humaira's marital status, Zoya had asked Humaira to keep quiet about it. Especially to Asad. It had come in as a shock and she needed time to think about her next move. She was dreading the fact that if Asad found out the truth, he would destroy Humaira's life and himself in the process.
Humaira had been surprised but had picked up the distress of Zoya and had agreed without any further questions. Zoya had been grateful and had quickly informed her that she would visit her as soon as she was dismissed from the hospital. They had exchanged their phone numbers and promised each other to keep in touch. Before coming she had texted her to inform of her arrival and Humaira had shown her enthusiasm.
When Zoya was inside, she was quickly introduced to the family. Shireen Qureshi was a rather warm lady for those in her good books. Humaira's husband Ayaan Khan was also present; he was a simple man but Zoya could sense Ayaan loved Humaira to bits. And she was glad that Humaira was surrounded by such wonderful persons.
When finally the two sisters were alone together, Zoya told Humaira the whole story about their father's truth. How he had conned several women and how Asad's mother was part of his harem. And how Asad wanted back his properties at any cost. She decided to tell her the whole truth about the wedding and what he intended to do even now.
Humaira was shocked.
Humaira - "I've never thought that Mr. Siddiqui had so many affairs. And that he has hurt so many people. When ammi told me the truth, I was so shocked and sad that I blocked him out of my life. I had been recently married to Ayaan at that time and I decided to leave the past behind."
"I can understand," Zoya put in giving her time to absorb the shock. "In a way I think it's better that you didn't know about all that. I presume last year had been quite eventful for you. Your Nikaah and your father's death."
Humaira - "Yes, exactly."
Zoya - "Errrm, we have another sister, Tanveer. You can meet her if you want but I think she lives in Bhopal. We're not very close."
"Is she Razia's daughter?" Humaira asked having understood all the characters in her life only too well by then.
Zoya - "Yes."
Humaira - "Then I don't think I want to meet her. She's someone I don't like already."
Zoya was stunned. She had not bad mouthed Tanveer to Humaira and was quite impressed at how perceptive her sister was. Zoya was definitely liking her more and more. But how could she tell Humaira the truth about the properties without sounding like someone with an ulterior motive?
"I have something else to ask of you," Zoya said hesitatingly not knowing how to formulate what had been trotting in her mind ever since they had met.
"As you already know, you have been mentioned in the will. You have inherited Sheikh Villa and Shah Factory. Shah is the name of one of his wives and Shei.. Sheikh is the name of Asad Ahmed Khan's mother. Dilshaad Sheikh who later become Dilshaad Ahmed Khan. The one who had committed suicide after Mr. Siddiqui had broken her heart."
Zoya was quite expecting the gasp she heard from the woman sitting beside her.
Zoya - "I told you Asad's story so that you can understand better why he's after his properties so relentlessly. And well I am not asking you to give it back to him. I know that would be presumptuous."
Humaira was silent.
"I have a deal for you," Zoya blurted out impatient to get the words out of her mouth.
After her meeting with Humaira, Zoya phoned Asad who came quite quickly as if he had been waiting round the corner. Zoya left the family behind and for the first time in her life she felt sad at leaving them; as if she was leaving behind her own family.
"Are you alright?" Asad asked her seeming to pick up her mood.
Zoya gave him her cold "model" look which stopped any conversation and she told Asad they had to talk. It was time to get back to business and she should get back to her old life as soon as possible to be able to disentangle herself out of the web she had weaved herself into.
Asad cocked his eyebrows but offered no protest. When they reached the hotel , Zoya was reminded of the moments they had spent together. She informed Asad that she needed some sleep before discussing some important business with him.
Thankfully, Asad left the room allowing Zoya to rest. She awoke a few hours later and was feeling better. She had some time alone to pack her things and was not allowing herself to think of what they had done on the bed together a fortnight ago.
Zoya could still remembered his words "Do you think I won't be able to leave you when the deal's done?". The message was as clear as water. Asad had told her not to expect anything from him when the deal was over and she would not cling. She had survived once without him and she will do it again.
When Asad came back, he was looking exhausted, his beard was now more pronounced than ever and Zoya knew he was worried about the properties even if he had not spoken about that yet. So she went straight to the point.
Zoya - "I have struck a deal with Humaira. She's ready to offer you back your mansion."
AAK - "Deal? What kind of deal?"
Zoya - "Don't bother about that Asad. I am going back to Bhopal today. I will meet Uncle Firoz and prepare for the papers as soon as possible and send it to you."
AAK - "What are you telling me?"
Zoya - "Well, I am telling you that please don't do anything silly. I have sorted everything out and you're finally going to be able to get back what you lost all those years ago."
Asad's face was impassable with no emotion showing and Zoya's heart sank. So that was it.
Somehow, she had convinced herself that Asad would try to stop her, to ask her about them. Zoya had wanted him to ask her of what would happen about us.
Zoya - "Allah Miyah, Whats wrong with me?? There was no us' and never will be".
Zoya's love was one-sided as it had always been. Zoya was quite glad that she knew where she stood this time. It was not a blow to her as last time but still her heart was bleeding more that it had Three years ago. This time it was so final that it was ripping her very soul to pieces.
Zoya was glad that she was sitting down for she was not sure that her shaking legs would support her weight.
"So I guess this is it," Zoya said in a small voice.
Asad nodded and stayed silent his expression not changing. However, he was making no move and Zoya took the cue. It was time for her to leave him this time. Not that it was her choice but she knew they did not have any future together.
As Zoya passed him, she felt a sense of weakness and before she could think of anything, she threw down her bags and kissed him. Kissed him like she had never done before pouring her desperation and emotions into that single kiss. At first, Asad resisted her but then he opened his mouth and took control of the kiss changing its whole dynamics.
Wrenching herself away from Asad, Zoya picked up her luggage without looking at him she ran out of the room before she made a complete fool of herself yet again... feeling like someone was twisting a knife in her heart.
