A/n: I don't really know what it is. It's too short to be an OS. I guess, I'll call it a drabble. I am so fed up of the permissive Zoya. Zoya Farooqui is not that. Plain and simple.
Here, is my take on our Ms NYC making a comeback!😎
Zoya had been in the room the whole day. The mere thought of going out and chancing meeting another hoard of aunties who wanted to bless the new couple made Zoya barf. Why couldn't people mind their own business? Was she some kind of an object to be displayed? Last time she checked, she was not an extraterrestrial entity, just human. She had enough pretending done.
She was huffing and complaining to Asad's picture when there was a knock at her door and Dadi entered the room.
"Jee, Dadi?" she crossed her fingers hoping she did not bring another heavier than herself lehenga for Zoya to wear.
"Zoya? What are you doing inside? Come out, no? You should spend time with the family. Get to know them. They are your family from now on." She smiled at her grandson's wife.
Oh no, she didn't!
"I am sorry, Dadi, but I am not going to come out. I am NOT a part of this family - maybe just you and Dost, and because of Mr. Khan, not Ayaan."
"Nahi, Zoya, aise nahi kehte. I know that this not how you had thought your life was going to be, but now it is. It's better to accept the reality now. It will only hurt to hang on to your past." Dadi tried to get her thoughts across.
It was like the last straw that broke the camel's back.
Zoya looked at the women, incredulously, "You can't possible think so, Dadi? Didn't you bless me and MR. Khan on Eid? Have you forgotten that? I am IN LOVE with your elder grandson and he loves me back. How can you even think of me as Ayaan's wife? And, don't you know about Ayaan and Humaira? They also love each other. How can this be any right if it is destroying so many lives?"
Zoya's voice had gotten stronger and louder as she spoke. Shireen and Rashid had also reached her room as she finished speaking.
Shireen crossed her arms and said, "Dekhiye, Zoya. You can't talk to elders like this. Ammi is our elder. You apologize to her right now. You are part of this house now, whether we like it or not."
This family was officially making Zoya lose her mind. She looked at Ayaan's mother and said, "You really don't care about anyone, do you? For you, only the people you know and care about are important. Do you forget that there are other people in the world, who are humans as well and maybe are being affected by your actions?
"As far as I remember, you couldn't stand my Phuppi or her family. You were so convinced that she is destroying your family. Then why did you not hesitate to beg in front of her son? Did you not think that you were destroying HIS life?"
Zoya's breathing had gotten labored as she let out all that she had been keeping inside her for the past few days. Dadi, Rashid and Shireen were looking at her, shocked. No one had ever dared to shout out accusations at them, in their own home.
But Zoya wasn't finished yet.
"Please forgive me but I don't have anything good to say to you, if you are waiting for it. And agar aapko bhi kuch accha nahi kehna hai, toh please leave. I know that you all are well versed in emotionally blackmailing but I am not in the mood to be talked into unwanted rasams or ideas."
She turned her back at them and it was a clear dismissal.
Zoya Farooqui was in the house.
A/n: Yup, I actually wrote that. I am so done with Zoya donning her pallu and walking with a "Jee, theek hai" all the time.
P.S. Drabble tile is from Tom Petty song - "I wont back down"
