I make it a point of missing any episode that stretches beyond 30 mins, esp. these so-called mahasangams/mahaepisodes.
It's just a cheap tactic used by channels to make sure that audiences are hooked to their TV sets for hours altogether, watching absurd, meaningless crapfests. Frankly, it's an insult to me as a viewer to expect that I'll be able to digest total nonsense under the guise of these long episodes.
It's very irritating for me as a viewer to know that a show, which is at a high point, is not progressing with the plot. And IMHO the dance performances are a waste of time. Not all TV actors know to dance well, and sometimes I'm pleasantly surprised and dismayed to find the character actors dancing better than the leads of a particular show.
So yes, I completely agree about your 'slave driver' comment. This is channel politics at its worst. Why are they overworking their already tired actors?
But not only Zee, Colors and Star Plus also do it plenty. Esp Colors, which introduced this miserable concept in the first place with Uttaran, or so I've heard:(
To clarify- this is purely my personal opinion. No intention of hurting anyone's feelings.
