Chapter 2

"The Not-So-Deewani Jawani"

"I am an interior designer, however I come from a small town where my degree was just a piece of paper to show suitors I was educated. I didn't approve any of the grooms my family brought home, all of them were narrow-minded chauvinistic assholes. And as opposed to what you guys would probably expect of me to do, considering I hail from a small town, I didn't agree for their happiness, I believe that's the stupidest thing one can do. Because at the end of the day I am the one who is getting married. It's not my family who is going to be the one spending their whole life with that person," Ms. Farooqui paused to catch her breath after that rant.

"Sorry... I tend to get a little... It's a touchy topic for me you see,"

"No, no, Zoya. I completely understand and feel it was important for you to get that out there," Isha calmed her down handing her a glass of water.

"Thank you," she sipped, "Anyways, after the marriage proposals getting ridiculous by the day, I decided that enough was enough. There was no way any pin-headed member of my family was going to find me a suitor that suited me. And nothing against them, I mean I love them to death but they have just come to accept their life the way it is and I am not content with just 'going with the flow'. It's my life and I don't want to regret any of it. So I came here. Actually while I was in college, right here in the local Mumbai University, you guys were behind my best friend's older sister's wedding, Ishita? Ishita Patel?"

"I don't remember any..."

"Oh! Sorry, that's my best friend's name, her older sister, Bhavna Patel?"

"Aah yes... Bhavna, she married Jay Parikh right? The Gujrati Tycoon right?

"Yes, and I was in awe seeing how perfect they were for each other. I was so jealous. It's been 6 years and they are still madly in love."

"That's great to hear, do give them our regards. Anyways... back to you?"

"Oh yes, sorry, erm... Where was I? Oh yes, I want someone who not only respects me and my career but is supportive and takes it seriously. I was thinking someone in the creative field like me would understand my work, but any suitor who possesses these qualities is fine."

"Point noted, anything else? Any special requirements we should take into consideration,"

"Um... Before I say this I want to make it clear it's doesn't have anything to do with money," she paused, "I... I want either an NRI or someone from Mumbai. I'm not judging anyone, but from my experiences, men from small towns with the I-want-a-housewife mentality aren't cut out for me, not saying all of them are like that, but you know what I mean. The men I've met from the city, and those who were sheltered from the typical Indian male mentality, are the ones who I've been the most compatible with."

"I completely understand your concern," Rohan comforted.

"Thank you very much,"

"It's our pleasure," Isha smiled, "Oh! How inappropriate of me to not have offered you something to drink yet," she picked up the phone, "Would like something, tea? Coffee?"

"No, that'll be all. But please do call me as soon as possible,"

And with that Rohan closed the file as the partners shook hands with their new client.

"Woh housewife wale ka kya hua?" Husefa waited against the coffee machine in the lounge.

"Still working on it, he picked a few girls from the profiles I sent him, but I don't know why I feel like this isn't going to work out," Isha voiced her opinion.

"Isha, are you still hung up over that? Those questionnaires aren't always accurate, aur bande ne kaha na ki he wants a housewife, what are you going to believe? A piece of paper or the guy himself?" Rohan tried to knock some sense into her.

"I guess your right..."

"You guess? I am right. I'm always right Isha, it's time you realize that sweetheart,"

"Don't. Push. It."

"I will do wh-" he was cut off by Isha's vibrating phone.

"Hello, Mr. Khan?" she answered, "Mhmm," she continued, "Yes, yes I totally understand Mr. Khan," she paused, "Yeah, don't about it, alright, bye,"

"What'd he say?"

"He wants his first meeting to be in a movie theatre," Isha explained

"What? What's the point of meeting then?"

"Look he's shy and doesn't know how to get familiar with a girl he's never met before,"

"So how's the movie going to help? Does he expect the movie to tell him the woman's favorite color?"

"Shut up Rohan, anyways there's a show for Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani this Friday, I'll get the tickets booked,"

"No freakin way. If I'm going to have to sit through it, and that too with you, it cannot be a romantic comedy."

"Rohan!"

"Kal Ho Naa Ho yaad hai? I still have that snotty, tear soaked jacket I let you borrow,"

"Aww... you still kept it?"

"To remind me of the consequences of watching a romcom with you,"

"Ha-Ha very funny, but it's a date and RomComs are the key to a successful date. Come on ladies-man, you of all people should definitely know this,"

"Fine," he huffed.

"Now that's like a good boy," she cooed.

"I'm not your dog, I'm your business partner." he grew annoyed with her tone.

"Really? I never saw the difference."

"Isha Mirchandani!"

"Got it! Leaving! See ya!" she flew out and immediately Husefa cracked up.

"Ab jale pe namak mat chidak yaar,"

"Have fun with Ranbir Kapoor for 2 and 1/2 hours."

"Do you want to join us?"

"No."

"Then shut up," Rohan advised.

"Sorry. Anyways, I never got why girls are swooning over that movie, 'Main udna chahta hoon Naina, dodna chahta hoon, girna bhi jahta hoon, bas rukna nahi chahta.' Basically he wants his life to be a game of temple run, I don't see what's so swoon worthy about that,"

"Someone go explain that to Isha man..." he groaned as he received his ticket confirmation.

Lovveed the update just like I'm loving the shoe these days! I'm honestly sooo happy I started watching Rishta.com, like I'm totally in love with it! And loved the vm tooo it was awesomee :) Great work girl, do continue soon :)
