OS: A Mothers Promise...Last Part
Days turned into weeks and weeks into months Asad and Zoya had really started to become comfortable with one another, sometimes even going back to their mindless bickering something Najma and Dilshad missed especially at the dinner table.
Zoya had gradually started taking on the role of a wife she would always do little things that Asad always found himself smiling at and admiring, like how she would always make sure all his clothes and bag was ready for him every morning and how she would wait up for him on days he would come home late.
Over the last few months Zoya and Asad had really started to understand one another, it didn't necessarily mean they liked or agreed with everything but they would always try and come to some kind of a compromise, Asad sometimes found himself just giving in altogether it was easier than getting into an argument with her.
Zoya skipped dinner as she wanted to eat with Asad 'Zoya won't you eat even a little' Dilshad said as she caressed her hair from behind. Zoya looked up ' no phoopi I will wait for Asad he won't be much longer' Dilshad came round and sat next to Zoya on the sofa 'Zoya, I will never be able to thank you enough, I will never be able to repay you for your kindness the sacrifices you made all because of what I said, you helped keep my promise' Zoya looked at Dilshad the tears she felt sting her eyes had already made their way down Dilshad's face. 'Phoopi, I didn't sacrifice anything, and you never have to thank me for anything, I may have done this to keep a promise that a mother made to prove herself but today I know that if I had a choice I would chose to do the same...phoopi you know that this relationship has been hard for both of us, we have managed to become very good friend and I know that one day, inshAllah, we will become what we are a husband and wife in every sense...and phoopi you repay me everyday with the unconditional love that you and Najma give me, you gave me something I had been deprived of for years...you gave me a family' Dilshad hugged Zoya 'and what about Asad Zoya?' Zoya looked at Dilshad confused 'Asad?' 'Zoya I mean is there no love between you two the unconditional love that you find in me and Najma...what about Asad?' Zoya looked at Dilshad for a split second before she turned her face.
Zoya cried silently the truth was that she didn't know how Asad felt, she was certain that he liked her but nothing beyond that. Zoya felt her heart constrict she started to breath heavily as she tried to stop herself from crying. ' Zoya look at me' Zoya wiped her tears and turned to face Dilshad 'I...I don't know phoopi' she told her honestly 'but you do know how you feel...right?' Zoya felt heat spread across her whole body, she tried to swallow the lump that had developed in her throat, her brain was clearly sending signals for her mouth to open and speak but her vocal chords refused to obey. Zoya closed her eyes she took in a deep breath 'phoopi I...' Zoya stopped, she was about to tell Dilshad something she hadn't even confessed to herself and if anything did Asad not have a right to know first. Zoya stood up 'sorry phoopi I need to go' Dilshad didn't stop her, she almost felt guilty looking at her. As Dilshad got up to go to her room Asad walked in 'Assalam O Alaikum Ammi ' 'Wa Alaikum Assalam' Asad smiled at his mum and as soon as he did his eyes started to wonder around the room and towards the kitchen 'Asad, she is not here, she just went to your room...and Asad you may want to talk to her, I was talking to her a few moments ago and she seemed upset' Asad didn't say anything he nodded and then took he longest strides towards his room.
Asad found Zoya standing by the window, he went and stood behind her 'hi' Zoya turned around slightly and gave him a faint smile before she turned back around. Asad held her by the shoulders and twisted her around so she would face him, her eyes were red and puffy, seeing her in such a state worried him he quickly cupped her face 'Zoya what happened? Why have you...' Before Asad could finish what he was saying Zoya crashed herself against his chest and wrapped her arms around him, Asad was taken aback he placed one hand on her back and the other on her head 'shhh...Zoya please tell me what happened why are you crying, did Ammi say something?' Zoya shook her head against his chest 'no'. Asad pulled her back and led her to the bed 'sit...now tell me...please Zoya' his words were soft almost pleading, but what was she going to say, she had never felt so scared in her life.
Asad held her hand in his and gently squeezed it, Zoya looked at him as fresh tear made their way down her face 'As...Asad I...I need to ask you something?' 'Im listening Zoya, ask me' 'we have been married for five months now...and...and..' 'And what Zoya' Asad asked as she hesitated 'and what are we doing where are we going with this?' Asad looked at her a little confused 'Zoya I don't understand' Zoya shook her hand out of his hold and stood up taking a few steps away from him, how was she going to explain to him, ask him or even tell him. Nothing in her life had followed the conventional route so why would this scenario be any different, Zoya knew that the more she hesitated the harder it would get she just had to come out with it and ask him upfront.
Keeping her back to him she squeezed her eyes shut, tightly fisted her hands and just came out with it 'Asad do you love me?' The minute the words left her mouth she felt her heart beat a thousand beats, she kept her eyes closed and stood still waiting for him to respond. If Asad's mouth opened any more than it already was it was sure to hit the floor, he could feel his mouth and throat dry up 'did she just ask me if...' Asad shook his head just to check that he wasn't dreaming. He walked up to her and reluctantly placed his hand on her shoulder 'Z..Zoya what did you just say' Zoya felt as if her body would melt under his touch she quickly moved forward 'Asad...please just answer the question'. Asad went and stood in front of her and as he did he couldn't help but smile at the innocence, Zoya still had her eyes closed her head slightly lowered and her lips trembling as if she was preparing herself for a good telling off. 'Zoya look at me' Zoya shook her head 'no...not until you answer my question' Asad had to bite his tongue to stop himself from laughing at her cuteness. He placed his finger under her chin and lifted her face up to meet his 'Zoya please open your eyes I can't talk to you like his'. She opened her eyes slowly and looked up into his 'Zoya...I don't know how to answer your question' 'a simple yes or no would be good' Asad took in a breath 'but is it as simple as that?' 'Asad either you do or you don't' Zoya started raising her voice a little in frustration 'what if I asked you the same question?' he said as he crossed his arms across his chest 'that's no fair Asad I asked you first'.
Asad dropped his hands and then lifted them up placing them on each of her shoulders 'Zoya how can you not know the answer to that?' Zoya looked at him and narrowed her eyes 'Mr Asad Ahmad Khan do you think I would be standing here in the middle of the night asking you a question that I already know the answer to?...no I don't know so would you kindly enlighten me' Zoya turned around frustrated and as she was about to walk off Asad grabbed her arm and pulled her back making her collide with him. With one hand holding her tightly around the waist he placed the other hand across the side of her face and head and before she knew what was happening Asad had placed his lips over hers. Zoya was in total shock her eyes were wide open she couldn't bring herself to move or protest in any way. As Asad applied a little pressure Zoya closed her eyes and started to relax in his hold, his scent combined with the warm air that escaped his mouth created havoc inside her. Asad slowly parted his lips away from hers and moved back 'does that answer your question?' Zoya blushed like she never blushed before, she slowly nodded her head as she smiled shyly. Bringing her back into his hold 'I believe it's your turn to answer my question now?' And Zoya did exactly that, told him that she loved him too in exactly the same way.
