Part 1
Asad sat impatiently waiting for Zoya to come home. You'd think he'd be used to her ways by now after a year of marriage and so much time spent living with her before but he wasn't. Tomorrow was their first wedding anniversary and he was anxious to have her all to himself tomorrow. His Ammi and Najma were monopolizing her these days and with long days at work, he was frustrated and he just needed some time alone with his wife.
Zoya walked through the door while Asad was on the phone making sure all his plans were set for the next day. "I know. I'm late. But really I had a good reason." she started her defense knowing him all too well. He just smiled. God, he loved her. He can't believe how he almost lost her. He shook his head dispelling the memories of that depressing time.
He stood up after closing his laptop and he took her into his arms hugging her tight. Zoya was suspicious. Asad was an affectionate husband but he was being weird tonight. She didn't question him. She just hugged him back just as tightly and cuddled her face into his neck.
"I missed you today." He breathed against her neck and she shivered involuntarily.
"Ahem." Zoya and Asad's eyes sprung open in surprise at the interruption and broke apart.
Wait! Asad thought. We're married. Why are we acting like we're in trouble?
"Ah Ammi, wo actually, Zoya and I were just going to sleep." He answered feeling the unnecessary need to defend himself.
Dilshad just smiled and shook her head thinking that Asad would never change and how happy she was that Zoya was a part of their lives.
" I was just heading to bed myself. Goodnight." She said and Asad and Zoya both nodded in acknowledgement.
"Bed time?" Zoya asked with one raised eyebrow. She started towards their bedroom as Asad followed swiftly behind her. When he closed the door behind him she continued, " Because I was actually going to hit the treadmill in the other room. I was so busy today that I didn't get a chance to work out. So . . ." She made a move to get off the bed and Asad grabbed her around the waist, her back colliding with his front.
"The treadmill will have to wait . . . because I can't." He whispered in Zoya's ear raising goosebumps. He tickled her and she fell onto the bed, him half on top of her.
"Tomorrow's our anniversary." Zoya breathed brushing his hair from his forehead but it fell right back into place. "A whole year together. Who'd have ever thought it?" she giggled.
Asad brushed his nose against hers and kissed her forehead, "I love you Zoya Asad Ahmed Khan."
"I love you too, Asad Ahmed Khan although I rather Jahapana Six Packs." She giggled as Asad tickled her some more.
********************************************************************************
Zoya awoke feeling around the bed for Asad. She popped one eye open and looked around with furrowed brows. "Where is he?"
She grunted and closed her eyes. It's too early for this. Her eyes didn't want to cooperate so she went with it. She was starting to fall back asleep when she heard the door open.
"Happy Anniversary beautiful." Asad walked into the room with a tray that contained pizza and a diet coke. She giggled. "Happy Anniversary. You got me pizza, this early?"
"Well . . .actually I made it. From scratch. No big deal." He cleared his throat. It was a big deal. Asad didn't really cook and he was often annoyed with her "healthy" breakfast choice, so for him to go through the trouble of actually making her a pizza was huge. Her heart felt full enough to burst in her chest.
"I love it." She she said jumping up and kissing him on the cheek.
He hugged her around the waist, her arms around his neck, "You haven't even tasted it yet. For all you know it tastes horrible." He kissed her nose. "Although . . ." His look was speculative, "It should be good, I followed that recipe to the T."
Zoya giggled, "I don't care how it tastes. I love it because you made it."
Asad smiled his sexy dimpled smile and leaned in to kiss his wife. Lips a hairsbreadth away, there was a knock at the door.
Asad frowned and looked at Zoya. Zoya laughed at his expression and pressed a finger to his lips which he kissed.
Asad opened the door to his Ammi and Najma. "Good morning Ammi. Tomato."
"Morning Asad, Happy Anniversary. Najma and I will be out for the day visiting some relatives. I just wanted to wish you both before we left."
"Thanks Ammi." Zoya and Asad said at the same time. Zoya had dropped the Phupi when she and Asad got married because Dilshad told her she'd only answer to Ammi as Zoya was now not only her daughter-in-law but her daughter.
When Dilshad and Najma left, Asad closed the door and locked it rounding back on Zoya.
Zoya looked at him with wide eyes and a chuckle escaped her lips. "What are you up to mister?" She looked at him with what she thought was a serious face.
"Trying to get you all to myself." He stated bluntly and Zoya's body heated and she shivered all at the same time.
She jumped off the bed and playfully shucked a pillow at him catching him in the head. "You have to catch me first." She faked left and then ran right jumping over the bed towards the door.
She tried unlocking the door before Asad caught her but she was too slow. Asad had her pinned to the door before she could even touch the latch.
"Caught you." He whispered his lips barely brushing her ear. Zoya's eyes closed an involuntary reaction to his proximity and his touch.
Asad lifted his left arm from around her waist, the right one still holding her to him, and pulled her long hair over her left shoulder.
"You aren't going to run away from me again are you?" He kissed the spot on her neck where neck met shoulder and her head fell back against his left shoulder. Though he was probably referring to her running around the room from him, Zoya could hear the undercurrent of real worry lacing his voice.
He meant her never leaving him like she had when their wedding had been called off the first time because of the plotting and scheming of his now jailed friend Tanveer. Zoya could still remember that day. The day when she felt her life fall apart. The days that followed, the months. It was still as painful remembering as it was living it.
She and Asad went through an emotional wringer but they were stronger because of it now.
Asad continued to kiss at her neck and then abruptly turned her around pressing her back into the door. "I have a full day planned for us today." He said looking into her eyes. She could never get over those eyes. So deep, dark and penetrating to the depths of her soul.
"O-Okay." She said, lost in him. He leaned down and kissed her left side of her neck. He breathed her in. The feeling of his breath on her neck as he inhaled her scent made her squirm under him. "A-Asad, I . . . um . . . we should . . ." He kissed up her neck making a beeline to her lips.
"You were saying?" He kissed her jaw, she could feel his breath on her lips.
"Zoya?" He cajoled. "Y-yes?" Was that her voice all breathy and stuttery?
"Go shower, we have to leave in half an hour." He kissed her jaw and pushed away, picking up his coffee from her breakfast tray and sipping.
Zoya opened her eyes in disbelief and grumbled under her breath, "I hope it got cold." she grumped as he drank his coffee.
"Did you say something?" Asad raised his head from his now open laptop.
"Me?" She said looking innocently at him. "Nothing." She shrugged and grumbled her way to the bathroom.
