I had no qualms in playing second lead: Vikrant

Ask Vikrant how he got his first Bollywood movie and he excitedly tells us, "I didn't have to do much to get a role in Lootera. I got my debut screen space in Bollywood after director Vikramaditya Motwane saw me in one of my serials. He asked me to come for an audition but then didn't call me for months after it. It was just before 10 days the shoot was to start, that I got a call from him saying I am in the film. Kabhi socha nahi tha itni jaldi I will be working in a Bollywood movie."

Taking a lead?
Having played prominent roles in serials like Dharam Veer, Balika Vadhu, Baba Aiso Varr Dhoondo and V The Serial, actor Vikrant Massey is a known name on television today. Vikrant, who recently replaced actor Rishabh Sinha in the serial Qubool Hai, opines that playing supporting roles has never concerned him even a bit. "I have never been of the opinion that I will only play the lead in a serial. For me, just the role needs to be good. I didn't think much before stepping into someone else's shoes in Qubool Hai, because for me, it was only my character that was the main concern and nothing else," says Vikrant, adding, "Many, rather most of the actors are using television as an audition table for movies, but mere saath aisa kuch nahi hai. I am doing television because I love it."

Vikrant is one of those few actors who is doing Bollywood and television, simultaneously. "I will be making my debut this year with Lootera, where I star with Ranveer Singh and Sonakshi Sinha. I am playing the supporting actor. And believe you me, I had no qualms in playing second lead as people are calling it, 'coz there is no such thing called leads in movies anymore. In Bollywood, the real hero is the script now. Also, I have no plans to leave TV because I am doing movies. I want to follow the footsteps of actors like Ram Kapoor and Pankaj Kapur, who are doing both together," says Vikrant, who has already started shooting for his next two Bollywood projects.

Dance with me?
Not many people know that apart from being a good actor, Vikrant is a very good dancer too. "I was an assistant trainer with dance guru Shiamak Davar, but that was years back. I don't dance anymore. Though I have been approached several times by these dance reality shows to be a part of them, I simply refused them as to be honest, I am a very lazy person. I can't do too many things at one time. TV requires me to work 14 hours in a day and uske baad kuch aur karne ka mann nahi karta," he rues.

Shaadi ka laddoo abhi nahi
From professional to personal front, Vikrant's personal life too is quite happening. After breaking up with his girlfriend with whom Vikrant was in a relationship for six years and also had wedding plans, the actor now has a new love in his life. "I don't believe in the concept of 'once bitten twice shy'. For me life is all about moving on. Though I am definitely dating someone right now, I don't have plans to get married. Both my girlfriend and I are in the process of first knowing each other. Just as I did in my last relationship, I will take my own good time to decide for marriage," he says as he signs off.
