AsYa OS: A Memorable Rainy Night
Asad was woken up by someone patting his face lightly. He opened his eyes a wink to find Zoha standing in front of him in her Pajama's.
Asad immediately sat up, concerned, "What's wrong sweetie? Had a bad dream?"
"No Abbu. It's raining outside," She told him with a dazzling smile, her dimples flashing.
Asad slumped back into his pillow, relieved, as he listening to the steady dripping of the rain drops and whooshing of the wind. He smiled as he smelled the wet mud. It was one of his favorites.
"Oh yes. It is raining." He agreed with a smile. "Is my Princess scared?" He asked her sweetly, not understanding what his 4-year-old daughter was doing in his room in the middle of the night.
"Nope" She shook her head, her open hair flying over her face. "I want to play in the rain," She announced, her big brown eyes dancing excitedly.
"What? But sweetie, it's 2 in the morning!" He told her, checking the time on his bedside clock.
"That's why we're waking you up. Because we can't go by ourselves," Ahsan said from the doorway. Asad hadn't noticed his 7-year-old son before.
Zoha now proceeded to climb over Asad to reach Zoya and started shaking her lightly saying "Ammi, wake up! It's raining!"
Zoya woke up confused and disoriented, "What? What's going on?"
"Your kids want to play in the rain in the middle of the night!" Asad told her, chuckling lightly.
"Oh suddenly they're my kids, huh? And when they do something good, then they're your kids! Nice!" She mumbled sleepily.
"No, you have to admit! Playing in the rain in the middle of the night is definitely something they got from their mother's side" He retorted laughing.
"Come on. Get up! It'll stop raining!" Ahsan said, pulling off their covers.
"Listen guys, I'm sure it'll rain tomorrow too. You can get soaked then." Asad tried to make them understand. "I'm signing a really important contract tomorrow so I need my sleep!"
"Abbu!!" Zoha whined, "You're always doing that! Come with us otherwise your little Princess will start crying!" She threatened, crossing her arms over her chest.
Asad laughed loudly while Zoya smiled wide with her eyes closed, listening to their conversation. Their daughter had recently started this blackmailing and it was something they both found absolutely adorable.
"Okay but if I do come with you guys, what do I get in return?" he asked, his eyes twinkling, wide awake now.
"You'll be the best Abbu in the whole world," Zoha replied cheekily, spreading her arms wide.
"Oh! I thought I already was," Asad replied back, trying hard to control his laughter at his daughter's attempt to butter him up.
"Ummm..." She thought for a while before continuing, "I'll give you a kissie on your scratchy cheek?" She offered.
Zoya couldn't control her laugher as she got up and declared that they were going to play in the rain causing both Ahsan and Zoha to whoop in delight.
"Zoya! Are you serious? You want to take them out in the rain at 2 in the morning? What if they catch a cold?" Asad asked concerned.
"Allah Miya!! What's wrong with you, Asad?! Go back to sleep. Your brain isn't working properly. It's June!" Zoya said mischievously, getting out of bed and slipping her feet into her slippers.
"Come on Abbu!" Zoha pulled at his hand and turning to Ahsan said, "Help me, Bhaiya!" Ahsan grabbed his other hand tugging at it to make him sit and Asad laughed seeing the effort they were putting.
Getting up, he opened the front door leading to the gardens and Ahsan and Zoha flew out whooping with joy followed by Zoya, her arms stretched wide and her face towards the sky, smiling as she felt the rain drops falling on her face while Asad watched her amused.
'She is such a child' He thought fondly.
"Come on Uncle!" Zoya mocked him gesturing him to join them.
"No, I'll just watch you guys from here. I am in no mood to get my clothes wet. You enjoy kiddo." He laughed.
But Zoya wasn't going to have any of it so she grabbed his hand and pulled him into the rain too. For a minute, Asad was too shocked to even react properly and he stood there with his mouth hanging open in disbelief and glaring at Zoya while the rain drops showered on his head and ran down his face.
"Stop glaring and start enjoying, Akdu!" Zoya laughed before going to her former position of stretching her arms wide and facing the skies. Asad smiled to himself as he went behind her and stood in the same position, intertwining his fingers with her's and Zoya sighed blissfully as she leaned back against his chest.
He closed his eyes as he faced the skies, smiling involuntarily as he felt the refreshing cold drops land on his face and body. He hadn't had a soak in rain in ages. It felt so good. And it felt perfect standing like this with his wife enjoying the rain. He thought he could stay here like this forever.
"Abbuuu!!" He opened his eyes to see Zoha skipping towards him, her face lit with pure joy as she jumped into his arms and he twirled her around, making her squeal in delight.
He put a slightly dizzy Zoha on the ground and grabbed Ahsan from behind swinging him in a circle as well and Ahsan's sweet laugher made him laugh with him. Putting his son down, he sneaked behind his wife and in a swift motion, wound his arms around her thin waist and starting twirling her too. Zoya's blissful laugher rang like music in his ears.
They played for half an hour, splashing each other and jumping in puddles like kids, till the rain stopped and they got back inside. Asad helped Zoya in getting both the kids bathed and ready for bed.
Zoha ran up to Asad standing beside her bed and jumped into his arms. "Abbu, I had so much fun todayyy!" She squealed, giving him an enthusiastic kiss on his cheek as promised.
"So did I, Zoha." Asad told her, kissing her back and moving her wet hair away from her eyes.
"Abbu, you should go to sleep. You have a deal tomorrow, right?" she asked, playing with the button on his shirt.
"Yes princess!" He replied kissing her forehead once again as he made her lie down while Zoya pulled covers over her.
"Abbu, what was the best deal you signed in your life?" Zoha asked suddenly.
"My best deal? Hmm... That would be the Nikkah deal I signed with your Ammi. That deal has never given me anything except pure happiness and joy." He replied with a genuine smile as he gave Zoya a wink and a fleeting kiss on her cheek making her feel like the luckiest girl alive.
