FF: Broken Hearts[Pt.27 Pg.78, 30th December] - Page 27

Part 19:

Dilshaad's fear kept growing when she saw that the light were of at their house. Tanveer lived further down the street and her house was visible if you stood in the door. Last time Tannu didn't show up when she was suppose to Dilshaad had found her hiding in the rain, about five minutes from were they lived. She had still been covered in blod dispite the heavy rain, and ofcourse drenched. God knew what was wrong with her this time. Everytime Tannu was late she asked herself why she let her go back there, why didn't she just take care of her herself, Tannu was already practicaly a daughter to her, but she knew what stopped her. Following that feeling was a memory, a few words;

Agar meri bachi wapas ghar nai ayi, agar tune unhe rokne ka koshish bhi ki toh use tumse itna door karwaduga ke tu zindagi baar aapne aap ko kosegi. Ab toh tum uska khayal thodi bahut rakti hai, baar tab uska kya hoga tum soch bhi nai sakti aur tab koi bhi nai hoga uska khayal rakne ka. Soch, ek baar nai kahi baar soch tu, ise pehle ke tum kuch karo. Tume bhi pata hai aur mujhe bhi ke tumhare paas paisa nai hai, aur jab tak is dunyia mein insan ko paisa nai milta tab tak woh majboor hai, tumhare tarha kamzaur..

She opened her eyes, tears slowly making their way down her cheeks, who would to such a thing to a child, a small innocent child she thought. How she wished she could do something, but she was held back, she knew that he had meant what he said and Tanveer would loose her last safe place, her Jammy's home, a place were she could be a child for a while, where she was loved, wanted and pampered like any other normal child her age.

She looked up again and this time saw something that made her heart break into a million pieces, a small child was trying to run but one of her legs wouldn't take any weight, as if it was broken, she was covered in blod and scared half insane. She kept looking back to see so that nobody followed her.

Dilshaad heard a "Ya Allah!!" as she run up to the girl, she didn't notice that it came from her own mouth. Reaching the girl she saw relief on her face as she fell uncounsious in her arms.

Dilshaad picked her up and cursed the man responsible for this. Running into the house she yelled that the birthday part was over and that the kids should go home and lock the doors behind them, NOW!!

Asad looked at his Ammi running out of the house almost yeling "Ya Allah" with a panicked voice, seconds later she came running inside yelling that the party was over and told everybody to go home and close their doors behind them. She had something in her arms, something clinging on to her with closed eyes. TANVEER!! Not again he thought and quickly got up. He put the cake in the fridge making place for his Ammi to put down Tannu. He saw her covered in blood again, this time she was uncounsios as well. Good he thought, atleast she won't feel the pain when we're looking after her wounds. He remebered that no matter how much pain she went through while they were looking after her, she stayed quiet and still until they were finished, she never complained and the only thing she demanded afterwards was that his Ammi toke her in her arms and Asad was close by. It was as if there was some kind of miracle medicine in his Ammi's embrace cause after holding Tannu in her arms for about five min Tannu would become the same girl as before, smiling and playing with Asad. She would turn into a child again. He knew that she considered his Ammi her own and loved him beyond everything. They were family!

Dilshaad shoke her head as Asad brought the first aid kit and said with a shaky voice; Asad mera purse le ao, jaldi. Time nai hai humare paas, agar Tanveer ko abhi hospital nai legayi toh she'll die, jaldi kar Asad!

Asad's eye's got round as tea cups and were filled with tears as he ran to his Ammi's room to get her purse.

His Ammi was outside their house waiting for him when he came running;

Asad darwasa band karo aur jaldi ao!

He did as he was told and followed his ammi into a rickshaw, he looked at Tannu's face, it was brused and covered with cuts, just like the rest of her little body, what stood out the most was the marks on her neck, as if she had been strangled, and he knew that, that wwas probably the cause. How he wished that he could grow up and protect her from that shaitan. To make sure that she never had to be scared again. But he was still a kid, good for nothing, he wasn't even awear of the tears running down his cheeks until his Ammi wiped them away whispering;

Kuch nai hoga humara Tannu ko, we won't let annybody take her away from us. Koi shaitan humara Tannu ko humse chin nai sakta. Upar wala jo hai, woh sab deekhta hai, sab sunta hai, aur humara dua bhi sunega, humari Tanveer ko kuch nai hoga mera rajkumar.. - her voice broke as she looked at the small doll in her arms. The Tanveer that had a hard time sitting still for two seconds wasn't even moving.

She has the same expression she had when she fell uncounsious in to my arms, one of relief – she thougth as her own tears began falling down on the small bundel in her arms. She kept looking at her chest, she was still breathing, her chest movements were bearly there, but atleast she was getting some oxigen in her.

The rest of that night was a blurr of patients looking at their little group, of doctors and nurses taking away their Tannu and of the wait, the never ending wait.

The only thing she remebered clearly was when the doctor came out and said;

The patient isn't responding to anything we do, the keeps flat lining, she regained counsioness once and kept saiying calling for her Ammi. If you come inside she might somehow feel your precense.

She had walked inside only to find Tanveer on the examination table now stripped of her clothes so that the doctor could get to all her wounds. And her wounds, they were all over her body, each worse then the other one. Seeing her in that condision broke her already broken heart and she sat down next to her Tannu, holding her hand.

After she had entered, Tanveer began responding and the doctors finally had some hope of saving her despite her grusome injuries.

It was like a miracle, the next morning Tannu woke up, seeing Dilshaad she smiled and said; hum jante the ke aap mere saath hain, aap hi meri Ammi hai. Jo mujhse sach mein pyaar karti hai, hai na Ammi?

Dilshaad opened her eyes not noticing her wet cheeks. What had happened there after still made her go numb, 20 years later it still made her go numb...
