brilliant update...i feel that noor was a bit wrong in holding najma back, because of the fear that asad might not accept his sister...if najma had confronted her brother and he rejected her presence in his life, then i feel that najma could have moved forward with her life...because wounds do heal over time...i hope zoya begins to understand asad from a different perspective soon...

The cracking of the shell.

'Giselda Vilody', he typed into the search engine on his laptop that, as he sat on his bed.

Skipping through the search results, his brows scrunched, his gaze fell on something that made his eyes widen.

'Daughter of S.H Vilody', he read out loud horrified.

S.H Vilody was one man this city feared. He had been in business with the daughter of an underworld don? Zoya was in the hands of such people? His heart ached for the girl. He couldn't let her go back to tha hell. That man was dangerous.

And if he was Giselda's father, then she really could anything to get Zoya like she had said. He needed to act and fast.

He dialled a number on his phone.

'I want you to increase the security around this building', Asad spoke with urgency.

'Also, make sure the office security tightens too', he said. 'I want both the buildings completely packed by security. Am I making myself clear?'

'How urgently, sir?', the other man asked much to Asad's irritation.

'NOW!', he barked into the phone. 'Do not bore me with your idiotic questions! NOW!'

Cutting the call, he threw his phone far on the bed, shutting the laptop close. Crossing his arms on his chest, he let his back and head lean against the bed head.

He would do anything to save her. Why?

Because it felt right and no one questioned what was right.
**

She couldn't sleep that night. Whatever Ayaan had said to her had effected her deeply. Dhe had no idea why, but those raw emotions made her feel unsure of many things. She was really sorry for Ayaan's sister, she felt bad for Ayaan's misery. That she was sure of. But what confused her was that very man who she had seen so many shades of.

Asad Ahmed Khan.

She lived in the same building as his, it was impossible to avoid him at all times. But could she ever be comfortable around him? Could she ever forget what happened?

Shutting her eyes tight, she sighed heavily turning on her other side on the bed, waiting for sleep. But it never came.

She had never seen or heard of a man so mysterious. She was curious about him but she knew she could never face him. And she wouldn't have to. Ayaan had found her a job, she would earn some money and after some time, she would leave this place. It was as simple as that.

Lying on her back once again, she stared up at the sealing, watching the fan. Slowly she started feeling dizzy and her eyes closed, sleep finally consuming her.

**

Asad walked around his apartment going through a file, scratching his temple. There was so much needed to be done in the company, so many things to be taken care of and recetnly he was lacking concentration. He needed Ayaan's help. Like always.

He picked up his landline phone and dialled his number.

'Hello Ayaan, listen up', Aasad began as soon as he heard the phone being recieved. 'I want you to meet the Mehta's today, I can't do it. And you have to make sure we get this deal. Some clauses here don't fit the case very well. And also make sure you take care of her job', he said in a lower voice. 'You know what we talked about yesterday?'

Zoya stood there, the phone tightly clutched to her ear. It was him. There was some strange thing in his voice that made it heavier, and then softer as he spoke. So fluent, she thought.

'Hello?', Asad asked recieving no reply. 'Where the f*ck are you? I haven't got all day!'

Zoya jerked hearing him yell. He sounded scary when he yelled. She realised she was afraid of him.

'Who is it, Zoya?', came the voice from behind her.

'Its him', she replied in a low voice handing Ayaan the phone.

Asad was stumped. His eyes widened as he heard her voice. So low. He had scared her off again. He shut his eyes trying to block away her frightened face that reverberated in his head.

Him. Thats what she called him. He heard his female employees calling him that but it never had felt odd. Why did it feel odd coming out of her mouth? God dammit. He was losing it.

'Sir?', Ayaan spoke.

'Uh, who was th-that?', Asad asked stammering but covering it up by clearing his throat.

'Zoya, sir', Ayaan replied looking at Zoya who shot her head up hearing her name.

'Okay', Asad replied before hanging up.

Okay? What was wrong with him? He never replied to him, he just simply hung up everytime. Ayaan was noticing some weird changes in his boss and he wouldn't call them bad, he decided.

Keeping the phone back on the reciever, he faced Zoya who had walked to the kitchen by now.

'I'm sorry', Ayaan said placing a hand on her shoulder. 'I'm really sorry for yesterday. I just had too much on my mind'.

'How's your sister now?', Zoya asked chopping a cucumber.

Ayaan was shocked but touched. He smiled sadly picking up one piece of cucumber and tossing it into his mouth.

'She's dying', he said trying to sound as casual as possible.

Zoya just looked at him and smiled sadly, placing a hand on his shoulder understanding his pain. Afterall, she too was seperated from her family. She had lost her brother and her parents, she knew the pain very well.

'Everything will be okay', she said before finishing off with the salad.

Ayaan looked at her, smiling to himself. She was really sweet, he thought. He had expected her to be completely ruthless to the world due to the pain inflicted on her by those people from hell who had held her captive. But she was so gentle, caring and sensitive. It warmed his heart.

Catching himself staring at her, taking in her beauty, he quickly walked out of the apartment, in urgent need of fresh air. He needed to sort himself out. There was still time before he had to take Zoya to the office.

Probably needed some time alone, Zoya thought looking at him leave. Dealing with a sister's bad health is no joke. She respected him for that.

Zoya looked at the clock and gasped. Just an hour left before she would be going to the office. It was her first day at work and she needed to look presentable enough. Afterall, she needed to make a good impression on the boss if she wanted to last long.

She quickly covered the salad with a plate and walked towards her room to grab the money Ayaan has given her for her use. She had agreed only when he had agreed to be paid back. She couldn't deny she really needed money right now, so she had agreed.

**

'Hello Ayaan?', Zoya asked through the landline in his house.

'Yeah?', Ayaan answered as he jogged nearby the apartment.

'I'm going in the mall area downstairs to get some things I need', she told him.

'Do you want me to come?', Ayaan asked not sure if she wanted help.

'No, I want to go alone. Just thought i should inform you', she said not wanting to disturb him.

'Okay, be ready by 10 a.m'.

'Will be', she said smiling before hanging up the phone.

Her first job. She was excited as hell. Her first step to a new life, leaving behind all the miseries of the previous life, leaving behind all the pain and hurt. Nothing could take away her life now. She wouldn't let anyone.

She walked out of the apartment, locking it with the spare key Ayaan had provided her. She quickly made her way to the elevator.

**

Asad had been shocked hearing her voice. So shocked that he had spent the next twenty minutes sitting on his sofa, thinking about how harshly he had sounded on the phone. Did he scare her again? Was it his fault? And most importantly, why it mattered to him.

On realising he was late for work, he had quickly changed and grabbing his car keys, had exited the apartment.

Asad quickly got in the elevator, burrying his face into the file he held. He was sure he was missing out something and he needed to be sure of this case before he made the deal with the Mehta's. He need to get that girl out of his head and focus.

Cling.

The elevator opened and in came a girl clad in a white salwar suit, waiting for the elevator door to close.

'Ya Allah, please don't let me be late', she prayed out aloud looking at the elevator cieling.

That voice, Asad thought. He lowered his file to look at the girl standing next to him. His jaw fell open as he saw her. Zoya. She wore the white dress he had given her and she looked beautiful. Her hair tied in a meat pony tail, she prayed to Allah.

He quickly placed the file in front of him lest she saw him and freaked out. He didn't want another frightened look to haunt him. The previous many were enough, he thought.

They reached the basement and Asad quickly strode forward to get out before she saw him. Zoya quickly lunged forward lest she got late.

Zoya felt herslef jerk hitting a hard body and she could feel herself falling. She shut her eyes and prepared for the fall, that would hit her on her head first. But it never came. Instead, she a strong arm around her waist, and her own hand touching something hard.

Asad saw how she slowly opened her eyes and looked at him. He waited for her to scream, waited for her to push him away.

But she didn't immediately. She looked at his face. She had frozen in his arms, she couldn't move. She wanted to scream and get up and run away, but something held her captive. Was it the honesty in his eyes? A wall cracking inside them as she looked on. There was something familiar about something in his eyes. It was something she saw when she looked at herself in the mirror or in someone else's eyes. Or was it that jawline that ran down his face. She wasn't sure if it was his Adam's Apple which rose and fell heavily.

Gaining her composure, she pushed him away, suddenly aware of his arm around her waist evoking a strange and disturbing reaction to her body.

'I'm so sorry, I-', he began but was cut off.

'I have to go', she said cutting him off and running away towards the mall.

Asad watched as she ran away. She had felt so tiny against his body. But perfect. Was he looking at her with lusty eyes? But if that was so, why did his heartbeat accelerate? That never happened before.

**

Zoya stopped to catch her breath and leaned herself against the wall breathing heavily, her one hand on her waist trying to control the pain from the running and the other on her chest. She threw her head back against the wall, the scene from a few seconds ago replaying in her head.

His cologne. It had hit straight int her senses. Yes she had been terrified as she found himself in his arms. But why hadn't she ran immediately? Why did she notice so much about him? His eyes, his jaw, his smell. She couldn't shake the feel of his hard chest against her hand.

'Allah Miyaan, what's happening?', she said to herself.

Nothing was happening, she decided straightening herself. It was nothing. Just an accident. She had been around many boys in her college, in her university. This wasn't something odd. Right?, she tried convincing herself.

She watched as he walked towards the exit of the building, a few feets away from her. He looked handsome, and he carried himself so well, she noticed before she slapped herself at the back of her head.

Nothing, Zoya. You have always been a sucker for men in black suits. Thats all. He is HIM. That guy, she said to herself.

Why couldn' she feel the shivers in her spine when she reminded herself deliberately of that night? Was it because of all the things Ayaan had said to her? Was he not a bad guy?

Her eyes fell on the clock hanging in the lobby and she gasped.

'Ya Allah!', she exclaimed before running towards the mall, trying very hard to focus.

**

'Hello?', she said into the phone. 'I want to meet Asad Ahmed Khan'.

'Okay', the person on the other end spoke. 'Your details please?'

'Noor. Syeda Noor. I'm a student in the CGM college, Mumbai'*.

'Sorry?', the person on the other end spoke sounding confused. 'A student? I'm sorry, this is no college, kid. This is a construction company!'

'Please! You have to understand, I need to meet him!', she begged.

But the woman on the other end had already hung up.

She turned around, dejected. She gasped as she saw Najma standing behind her, her eyes read and puffy from all the crying.

'N-Najma?', she stuttered hoping she hadn't heard her talk on the phone.

'Breakfast's ready', she said before going away.

Noor sighed in relief. She had heard nothing. She had moved in with her best friend for a few days to keep her company after the Purple Oak fiasco. And she was going to meet Asad Ahmed Khan, and was going to ask him about his sister before she let her best friend meet him.

It had pained her to see how Najma had cried all night through. But she knew she had to act fast. In no time at all, Najma would be back on finding her brother and confronting him. She had to make a plan, and quick.

A/N:
* name of college and the college is entirely fictitious.
