'Zoya, come on, we're getting late!', said a highly irritated Asad Ahmed Khan.
Why in the world did his wife waste so much time on getting ready? His wife was the most beautiful woman on this planet, without all her makeup, jewellery or other stuff. He would never get women, especially not his Miss NewYork Hoity Toity, he thought sighing deeply, smiling.
'Bas 2 more minutes, Asad', Zoya said while applying her mascara, looking at Asad's reflection through the mirror standing behind her, his arms folded across his chest.
'Why don't you make yourself useful? Put Ameena's milk bottle, baby wipes and some of her toys in my hand bag instead of staring at me like that?', Zoya said trying to keep her husband busy incase he lost his cool, like he always did whenever she took long to get ready.
Asad rolled his eyes and moved towards the bed and did as his wife had asked him. Zoya looked at herself in the mirror one last time and came towards the bed and picked up her one year old baby daughter in her arms. Ameena was their life. Her birth had blessed them with loads of happiness and joy. She was the little angel to everyone in the house.
Najma used to play with her all day long, not even letting Zoya near. Dilshaad and Najma would often have to toss in order to come to a decission to who gets to hold Ameena and when. Ayaan used to often come down at their house with Humeira to play with her too, sometimes Shireen and Rashid tagging along, angering Asad who never said anything knowing it would only cause disturbance in the house and he could not tolerate any disturbance with baby Ameena around.
And today was baby Ameena's first birthday. They had celebrated her birthday lavishly, with the whole neighbourhood present, showering her with gifts and blessings. The best caterers in Bhopal were hired and a big cake was ordered and the party was a total blast. But Asad being Asad, had wanted to spend sometime with just his daughter and his wife alone, after the grand party too. And his Ammi had happily agreed.
'Ofcourse Asad, it's a special day for you and you deserve to have a little party of your own', Dilshaad had said lovingly when Asad had sought her permission.
Zoya kissed her daughter's cheeks while she happily clapped her little hands and then engaged herself playing with her mother's earrings.
'Mama's letting you play with her earring today, just because today's your day, get that', Zoya said in her baby voice and kissed Ameena again.
Asad smiled at the two women in his life who had made him enjoy life again, had taught him the secret behind happiness. He engulfed Zoya in a hug, with Ameena in the middle, in her mother's arms and kissed both of them on their foreheads, earning a giggle from each.
Asad drove his wife and daughter to the gazebo he had planned to take them to. On seeing the place Zoya smiled looking at him and he knew the reason behind that smile. It was the same place where they had spent a romantic night in the rain, in the influence of bhaang ke pakore.
'I specially chose this place, Zoya', Asad said opening her side of the door.
She got out of the car with Ameena in her arms and placed a soft kiss on his cheek, earning a smile and a peck on her lips from him in return.
Asad took Ameena from Zoya as they both went inside the gazebo. He had planned this night out, so the gazebo was surrounded with fairy lights, creating a beautiful feel while nursery rhymes were being played. The floor had a small carpet with a cake on it and many gifts.
'Why on the floor, Asad?', Zoya inquired.
'So our baby can crawl around freely and enjoy', Asad answered moving away a strand of hair from Ameena's face lovingly.
Zoya couldnt help but smile. She couldn't believe this was the same man she had met almost two years ago. The man who barely smiled, barely expressed his feelings. The same man she used to call 'Emotionally Challenged'.
'Asad', Zoya began, looking at Asad.
'Hmm?'
'You're not emotionally challenged anymore. I thought I'd let you know', Zoya said matter-of-factly.
Asad chuckled and shook his head slightly at his wife's cuteness.
They sat on the floor, eating the 'Strawberry Shortcake' cake Asad had ordered for this little party. Both Asad and Zoya took turns feeding Ameena. After feeding her the desirable ammount, Asad placed a piece of cake near Zoya's mouth. She ate it happily and in return fed Asad with her own hands. They both were lost in each others eyes as this was one thing that still hadn't changed between them, their eyelocks. They still could feel themselves drowning in the depth of each others eyes whenever they had one of those.
They were brought back to earth by a giggle nearby. As Asad and Zoya looked over at Ameena, they're jaws dropped almost instantly.
'Asad, our baby..', Zoya gasped.
'Is she? Are you seeing what I'm seeing? Is she really?', Asaid asked Zoya, not believing his eyes.
Zoya squealed in delight and entwined her arm with Asad's, while he looked over at their daughter and placed a hand on Zoya's hand that was around his arm.
