Meri Aashiqui
"They are here. God, they look so good together, don't they. Look at her red sari, oh my god she is so beautiful. Zoya heard the whispers as she walked in with her hand on her husband.
"Mr. and Mrs. Khan," someone greeted them. "Thank you so much for attending the party." Asad's employees had arranged a party for their one year wedding anniversary. Asad's business associates were present here as well so they had to be presentable. They also had to pretend that everything was fine, that things weren't strained between them.
-----------
Flashback:
"Zoya you have to stop seeing him. I will not allow it."
"You will not allow it," she had screamed. "Who do you think you are to allow me to do anything. I will see him...I will see him whenever I want, however many times I want. Rahul is my friend Asad, friend. Can you get that throw that big skull of yours? I have known him all my life and know he has moved to India, so I will see him. Do you hear me?"
"Do I hear you? I think our neighbor at the end of the street must have heard you. And no you will not see him because I am telling you no."
"Oh really...you are telling me no. Who the hell do you think you are that you can tell me who to see?"
"Your HUSBAND," he screamed loosing his mind. "I am your husband and I said I do not want you to see him anymore." He went quiet for a few moments after that outburst and then said in a low voice, "is he suddenly more important to you than I am Zoya." He looked as if he dreaded the answer.
"What...Unbelievable. Yes happy...he is more important to me than you. Are you happy now. Have you heard what you want to hear?" Zoya lied in her anger. She couldn't take it anymore though. His anger had been escalating for the past few weeks and all because she had been spending time with her friend. He had just moved here from America though and he didn't know anyone else besides her in Bhopal. He needed her right now, but that didn't mean anything. She was tired of explaining it to Asad, but he was unwilling to concede and she did not know what to do anymore. So, she had started screaming too, tired of trying to be rational and calm and understanding.
"You will not see him that's final."
"I will see him as long as he needs my help. And that is final."
Asad's face was fuming. His eyes narrow in anger, his nose flaring. He walked away from her, slamming the door as he left her.

Present:
One of the business associates said, "you look very beautiful Mrs. Khan," to which she felt Asad stiffen beside her., his hand tightening on her. She looked at Asad and she could see the same jealousy flaring again. He was jealous that another man had seen what he believed belonged to him and complimented. Just like he is angry every time she would talk to Rahul. She simply did not know what to do anymore. If he had his way she would never see any male who was not related to her, maybe not even them. He was so possessive about her that he wanted her all to himself, which was fine to an extent but then there were some things about her he simply could not possess. And he needed to understand that or else this strain could keep increasing. She was making her point to Asad with the ongoing fight about Rahul. She wanted him to understand that even though she loved him, that he was not the only person in her life. He may be the most important man in her life...he may be the man she loves...he may be her husband, but that didn't mean he could consume her like this. It did not mean that he could own her.
"Thank you," Zoya gave a sugary smile to the man who had complimented her and looked at Asad, trying to access his response. Just as expected he was unhappy.
"Why don't you both dance. Please we insist. You guys are the stars of the party so you must lead the dance," someone else said
Asad held one of his hands out and she took it, having no other option since everyone was staring at them.
Meri Aashiqui started playing in the background as Asad lead Zoya to the dance floor.
Hum tere bin ab reh nahi sakte
Tere bina kya wajood mera
Asad placed his hand on her bare waist, but Zoya tried to keep her distance. He wouldn't have any of that though, so he roughly pulled her closer until she smashed up against his wall like chest.
Tujhse juda gar ho jaayenge
Toh khud se hi ho jaayenge judaa
They began to slow dance to the song.
Kyunki tum hi ho
Ab tum hi ho
Zindagi ab tum hi ho
Chain bhi, mera dard bhi
Meri aashiqui ab tum hi ho
He looked into her eyes. She froze, she couldn't seem to look away. Her anger of the past several weeks seemingly melting away at the depth of need, of love in his eyes.
Tera mera rishta hai kaisa
Ik pal door gawara nahi
Tere liye har roz hai jeete
Tujh ko diya mera waqt sabhi
Koi lamha mera na ho tere bina
Har saans pe naam tera
He twirled her, but even that could not break the contact, her eyes seemed glued to his. They kept returning back to him.
Tumhi ho... Tumhi ho...
Tere liye hi jiya main
Khud ko jo yun de diya hai
Teri wafa ne mujhko sambhala
Saare ghamon ko dil se nikala
Tere saath mera hai naseeb juda
Tujhe paake adhoora naa raha hmm..
Kyunki tum hi ho
Ab tum hi ho
Zindagi ab tum hi ho..
Chain bhi, mera dard bhi
Meri aashiqui ab tum hi ho
As the dance ended they both just stood there in each others arms, not wanting to let go, forgetting the rest of the world.
"I am sorry Zoya," he finally broke the silence. "I am sorry that I am so possessive, I will try to calm down. But please don't be angry with me anymore. I can't stand it."
And how could she not melt when he looked at her with those brown eyes gone numb.
"I love you Asad."
He just gave her a small smile which said everything.
