Asad - Rashid's reflection?

I was thinking about how Asad keeps thinking that he is after all Rashid's son, and would do something similar to the lady he loves, and a few things hit me.

It is ironical, because, even in not doing so cautiosly, he is hurting Zoya, in his own way. This is what prompted me to think about it in the first place. Come on, think of it, he hasn't yet made up his mind, fully. Yes, he has decided that he better stay away from Zoya, but then, he does not let her go either, and in doing that, he is neither helping her or himself, and only causing her more hurt. For someone who just realized that she is *all alone* in this world, and has no family to call her own, is he right in doing what he just does to her? I am not blaming him, just trying to understand his psyche here. He just goes from too hot to too cold, just because of his own issues, deep rooted as they are. I know its not easy, but in that case, he should just rather let her go right? Easier said than done.

But, if you observe closely, Asad is definitely a big, big reflection of Rashid. Yes, he has Dilshad's wonderful backing and upbringing to make him the man of character that he is, but let's look for similarities in their characters. Dilshad, does comes across as someone who can voice her feelings easily. However, she has chosen not to. On the other hand, Rashid is an internalizer, who never really spoke up about anything that was bothering him 17 years ago, just took it in and decided to do what he thought was right. Yes, he did it for family, and he was majboor, but this speaks volumes of his character. He can, if pushed to shove, take in any amount of internal humiliation, or external pain, but do what is right for others. This closely ties to what Asad is. Asad can pretty much do the same. Yesterday, when Tanveer pitched in the family conversation, we all hated it, but she did say something that gives way to Asad's character. It was twisted for her benefit, but Tanu was right in saying that Asad can do anything when it comes to loving someone, eventhough he is silently suffering inside. He has proved this again and again. He has a tendency of keeping his own *desires* to himself, including something as important as maintaining contact with Ayaan to something as insignificant as eating Jam. Once Asad is convinced that something is wrong/unhealthy/damaging in someway, he is able to stay away from it (atleast till now. We all know this is not working with the case of Zoya).

Similar to Asad who is not able to distance himself for Zoya, knowing that (in his mind) they are not right for each other, so is Rashid, who can not in a way see Dilshad moving on. To some extent, he also still craves for some stolen moments with her (evident in the beginning episodes) because, he truly does seem to love her. He oscilates between doing the right thing, and his own emotions, and to a large extent this led to the shoutout at Shalini - atleast as we see from the outsider perspective. He realizes that his meeting Dilshad can harm her, still when he gets the first chance, he does try to atleast get a glimpse of her, as if some magnetic force is attracting him to her. Asad, feels that same kind of pull for Zoya. Asad is similar to Rashid in this, unlike Dilshaad who honestly and truly is a *one track* woman. Dilshaad has a clarity of thought, that has lent her the resolve and strength, as well as the grace to live the life of dignity she has lived for herself and raised her children with. She loves Rashid equally, but she is able to let him move on, and actually not *try* to contact him, atleast till situations presented themselves, where she had to enquire about his health. Although emotional, she is rather clear headed and straight forward.

I am not advocating Asad's own fear tha the will do what Rashid has done, but just saying, that he may, to some extent realize that he is similar to his father in one way or the other, than he is to his mother. Its funny, as I have grown up I joke with my mother, that I am becoming *her*. Things that I criticised about her growing up (nothing negative, just you know quirky habits, or things like that) are so much my second nature today, and we both joke how similar we have become when responsibilities or life actually fell on our shoulders as such. I was a different girl when I was younger, or a teenager, but today when I am a mother myself, I am a carbon copy of my mother... And many people claim how similar our behaviours have become : I do the exact same OCD type things she used to do.

Again, this is not at all related to the gravity of the situation of what Rashid did, but often, we ourselves realize that we are more like our parents in our behaviour patterns than we realize. As Asad realizes that he is indeed more like Rashid than Dilshaad, somewhere deep down he fears that he won't be able to make up his mind and make the right choice when the time comes... and end up hurting the people he loves one day. This does not happen with Dilshaad and Najma, because so far there is no conflicting force there. Life is pretty much one track again - Mom comes above everyone else. But look at Ayaan. Due to his own priorities, Asad did let Ayaan , his younger brother down more than once. Asad is aware that he did. He knows that some of his actions (intentional) have hurt Ayaan : Who he holds so dear to his heart. So in his own little world, he is justified that he will do the same with a woman who has not seen his journey up to this point. Everything he does, is because he feels that following the rule is easier than being the exception. His *tehzeeb and what not* is again a guard. If he never steps out of the boundary of tehzeeb, he won't be in a way responsible for any of the action he has taken... Even with Zoya, he has always needed a trigger to be doing what he does. Very rarely (bathroom electric shock being an example) has he done something for her just without that much needed push. its like, everytime he needs to cheat on his tehzeeb-diet, he needs an excuse, a crutch. Because, somewhere he knows that he does not have the courage to voice his own desires truly and completely to someone.

The irony is , as I said earlier that even without wanting to hurt Zoya, he is still already hurt her. :(.

I would love your thoughts on this analysis, as I am sure some of you don't agree or can add to this.

WORD!

This is such an amazing analysis and you've really gone in depth with all this. I actually agree with you, Asad no matter how much he hates it, is like Rashid in a way, I won't say he's a carbon copy of Rashid but they are times he does stuff that makes you think yes, he is Rashid Ahmed Khan's child, so in that front I honestly do understand his fear - however, a person has full control on his self, if Asad doesn't want to repeat the same mistake his father made then he could very well avoid making those mistakes, but he's so damaged because of his past, because of his issue's that he's not seeing that.

I sometimes really feel for him, when at other times I want to wring his gorgeous neck.

Loved and agreed to each and every word you wrote here.
Awesome analysis.
Asad is indirectly hurting Zoya too much in order to NOT HURT HER at all.He has the POWER to keep himself IN CHECK from the things he feels is not good for him even though he is obsessed with those things.
He knew Tanveers words hurted Zoe but he kept quiet even though he understood very well that Tanveers words are shattering Zoe. Today also he kept quiet when Tanveer was hurting Zoe in order to take out her ring. He felt bad but he did not stop her anyway.I felt bad for Zoya today. She is stuck with such a man who is her protector sometime and the next moment he becomes cold and insensitive.
Asad is hurting Zoya big time and at this point he is not able to even understand the gravity of his actions. It's high time he learns ASAP.

This is actually anamazing analysis! I totally agree with you. Although he's not completely like him, due to Dilshaad's upbringing, he does share some similarities.
On the pretext of NOT hurting their loved ones, both actually did hurt their loved ones.
Rashid when he thought he was saving Dilshaad by leaving her, saving her from the evil lurking around him, and Asad ehere he thinks hes protecting Zoya by not letting her come close to him thinking she might get hurt due to his dark life.

Wonderfully written!

Very well written. I am sure Asad will do some things in future which will make him same like Rashid. Only then he will understand and forgive his father. In the process, Zoe will get hurt!!

I hope they dont go that route, that to understand Rashid Asad has to do wrong. I just hope that in uncovering Zoya's past, they realize that Rashid was never wrong. I would hate to see that Asad has to make a mistake to understand Rashid, when Zoya who is his total opposite can slowly just show him a different POV...

what hurts me is the fact that zoya has already gone through a very bitter past and now she is also hurting a lot when it comes to her love life...
i sincerely wish she will be happy soon~~
a person like her really deserves all the goodness in the world...

besides that, i really wish a guy can come in between asya and show asad what is the right way to protect zoya physically and emotionally!
