Chapter 23
Zoya stood there staring at a much known face of a girl, who rather nonchalantly took Ayan's arm in her's, as if it belonged to her. The very moment she recalled Najma telling her about Sid's daughter, she very clearly remembered that her name was 'Humera'. Her eyes began to scan her again, this time with a different notion.
'So she is Humera…?' She thought to herself.
Humera, neared Ayan, who knew quite well what was coming, her eyes spat fire but she managed to sugar quote her words,
"Where have you been Ayan? I was looking all over for you….. since an hour!" she almost grunted the last phrase.
"ummm…i….i was just coming for you!" she murmured.
Humera shot a quick glance towards Zoya, who stood there motionless and expressionless. Ayan turned towards Zoya rather apologetically…..
"I am sorry Zoya….gotta rush…will catch you later!"
She nodded, while her eyes wanted to be fixed on the young women beside him. They left…
'She could have at least said a hello…..' Zoya thought and then shrugged leaving for the Khan Residence.
"Who was she?" Humera shot a murderous look at Ayan.
"Zoya…" He pressed.
"What?" She stood still. Only a week back Sid opened the truth in front of the family. Of course Shiren and Rashid knew it all before, they were a little shocked to hear about his long lost daughter all of a sudden again. But the only person who found it difficult to take was Humera, which is very natural for anyone who is suddenly told that you have another sibling, the one you know nothing about, the one who knows nothing about you, the one from your step-mom, the one who will now share the status you used to enjoy all alone; the status of a single child. All these circumstances left her a little edgy about Zoya. Now standing there, scanning the image of the girl she had just witnessed, she didn't know how to recover the shock playing on her.

Zoya sat on her bed, her Abbu's voice ringing in her ears,
"Zoya what have you decided? Should I come to take you home tomorrow?"
And this time she couldn't say no. it would have been rude saying him no again and again. So he was going to come to pick her up tomorrow. The thought of leaving without seeing Asad stung her. She didn't want things to take this shape; she could never perceive that the uncertain future she had always dreaded was indeed haunting beyond her feelings. Tears started cascading down her cheeks. She felt a jolt in her throat.
'Why am I so tentative about going there? Its my house after all. When i have decided to let go of my past and live for today then why this edge to my thoughts? Why this insecurity? He is my dad, that place holds my share, I deserve everything there, I deserve that place in his life. The place I have always craved for….. the place fate is finally allowing me to hold….
Is it because of him? No Asad cant be the reason….. do I fear that my going there might make him change his decision, he might not want to fulfill his promise….. no he wont do that, I can swear on my life for that…. He wont leave me. Leaving me cant be easy for him as its not for me…… I think I should stop idealizing everything for now…..its leading me nowhere!'
She turned the lamp off and drowned in the covers for some sleep.

Zoya scrutinized the stuff that had been packed yet again. Her face lacked energy. She grabbed her cell phone for the enth time to gather up courage to make him a call. Not that she didn't want to talk to him, it was only that she didn't know what to say when he picked up. How would she tell him that she is leaving the home which was her dreamland for another which was her heaven- at least she thought so.
'No I cant do this…..' she tossed it away yet again hasting out of her room. She went to Dilshad, knocked at her door and entered in.
"Zoya…?" she looked surprised.
"Phupho…" She neared in and couldn't tolerate her bursting sentiments; embracing her in a hug she started sobbing.
"Zoya my baby…what happened?" Dilshad grew anxious at her sudden outburst.
"Nothing phupho…..im gonna miss you a lot."
She smiled sadly releasing her breath.
"Don't forget you are my sons legally engaged fiance and that your final home is this…. You are only leaving it to come back to it"
Zoya pulled back, her lips curling at the ends.
"Phupho…. Are you happy with my decision?"
"Yes….in fact I am proud that you have the courage to take such a decision in your life. You forgave him for everything and after these long years of separation you want your place back. I respect your decision as much as I respect the love you hold for your dad."
She gazed at her; the motherly figure in front of her wasn't from this world. She knew how much Dilshad wanted for her to stay back but, no, she bore everything just to see her happy. She knew her happiness somewhere lied in going there and so she gave up her wishes for her.

Sharja:-
Asad walked out of his company's UAE branch holding a clear folder in his hand. For a moment he stood still and stared down at the file he was holding. A strange agitation played on his face. Finally he shook his head and took out his cell phone dialing Zoya's number…… FINALLY!
To his dismay it wasn't responding. He sighed yet again heading for the Hotel.

Zoya entered the house she thought of which as her heaven. She didn't expect any warm welcome after that day she saw Humera's unawareness towards her, but if the welcome wasn't warm it wasn't cold either. The whole house hold was indeed lined up in the hall like the board members of a firm line up before screwing your first interview. But none of them was there to screw her. She could easily make out their unsaid thoughts from the expressions that played on their faces. They weren't that bad at all. Where a sheepishly cheeky smile was playing on Ayan's face, Humera was grim rather grave with the cold look in her eyes. Rashid was one face she already knew of the rest and his genuine smile helped her a lot. The next three women beside him were easy to guess, all with plastered smiles.
'Better than expected…………. I can't anticipate these people to like me on our first encounter…..' she thought.
After the simple but awkward exchange of forced smiles and greetings was over Sid finally asked Zoya to head for her room. When Ayan interrupted,
"Mamu jaan…if you don't mind can i….?" he hesitated.
"Sure…." Sid was a little surprised at this sudden acceptance from a family member but as it was Ayan only; Sid wasn't stupid enough not to connect the dots here.

Ayan and Zoya crossed the lobby and climbed up the stairs to the first floor.
"So what should I call you? Mrs. Khan…Bhabhi…or Zoya will do?" He winked.
Zoya let out a laugh.
"Anything….."
"well…..What does Bhai jaan call you?"
"Well…. Wo tu ……Miss Farooqi kehte hain……ya they….at least engagement se pehle tak tu yehi tha…"
"Ohh! Now that will be too formal for me…I am better with Zoya only…"
"Your wish…"
They enter her room.
"So this is your new den Miss…….Zoya!" He almost announced.
She took a quick surveillance of the room. "Open, airy and spacey….Perfect!"
He very casually slumped on the couch, "So how do you feel here?"
"My room?" Zoya pretended to be busy in setting her stuff.
"The house actually…."
"I don know….. its good…"
He smirks. "And the people?"
"Ummm! Aa…."
"I get it…I get it…" he said getting up.
"Ayan…."
"I think you should get some rest…… my room… the one beside you…left!"
She sighed. "Thanks…"
He grinned and started for the door when suddenly remembering something he turned back.
"And I think you should tell him now….."
Zoya looked at him a little baffled…. 'How does he know?' She nodded; her mind already accelerating to find the appropriate words to talk to him. Ayan left.

Humera stormed into Ayan's room, the crimson red color of her usually calm cheeks indicated she wasn't normal at the moment.
"You were supposed to show her the other room…." She growled.
"I know…" He said very casually heading for the posters on the wall, there were additions to be made there.
"So?"
"So?"
"Why did you show her the other one….?"
"Because this one is closer to mine…."
For a moment she couldn't speak; he was being much more straight forward then she thought he would be.
"And if you want to know the reason then…….i want her to have someone close in case she needs anything or feels uncomfortable!"
"Ghar mein aur bhi bohat saray log hain!"
"I know…by the way now shez your elder sis…show some respect!"
"Respect my foot!" She muttered under her breath and stomped out of the room.
Ayan sighed shaking his head. "Pata nai kia soch rai hai…"

"Please Allah help…please!" She sighed and took the phone to her ear. He unexpectedly picked up just after the first bell like he was waiting her call.
"Zoya…." He started then stopped abruptly.
"Mr. Khan…." Her eyes began to water.
"Yes…"
"You wanted to say something….."
"Ummm…yeah!...uum …nothing!" he changed his mind.
"You did…"
"No…nothing…How are you?"
"Fine…." She tried to sound strong but of course she was weak without him, very weak.
"Mr. Khan…. I wanted to tell you something….."
"I can sense that…."
There was a pause. She took in the maximum oxygen in her lungs before phrasing the next line.
"Mr. Khan…..i ..i have…. " She closed her eyes in desperation. 'Why is it so difficult….? I cant tell him he'll get hurt…but I cant even hide it from him!' she was lost in her thoughts when his voice exploded in her ears.
"I know it Zoya…."
"Wha….." She stopped midway.
"And I am not mad!" His voice wasn't frosty, neither restless….. it was…she couldn't make out anything at the moment.
