Now that we are 3 months into this serial, the two lead characters (Asad and Zoya) have definitely given us a lot of fodder to ponder upon. My first post is about Asad and later I will try to make a post about Zoya.
Asad Ahmed Khan, not only has a heavy duty name, but also has a personality that's hard to ignore. What strikes me most is that this man is quite an enigma, a puzzle that is hard for anyone to solve right away. On the outside, he is a straight forward, well dressed, good looking, self made, no-nonsense man with high principles. A man who strives for perfection,might seem complicated to some, but on the contrary he is a simple man on the inside- all he really craves for is honesty and love from his near and dear ones.
A man, who is laser focused on his career and his family- sometimes to the point of appearing selfish and self centered. I have heard him say 'why should we interfere? It's their problem, not ours,' on several occasions, but contradicts himself when he senses danger to his near and dear ones. He could have walked away or disowned Zoya after her 'qubool nahin hai' act yesterday, but instead, without thinking of his relationship with Dilawar mama, jumped right into the messy situation. Even though he sounded irritated on the phone after Zoya called him from the bride's seat, his eyes revealed his real concern. The moment he saw her behind the veil, he knew she was in deep trouble. As they say eyes are a doorway to the heart- couldn't be more true than in Asad's case. Don't go by his words, read it in his eyes. Hope Zoya will one day learn to do that.
A man, who can ignore the wound on Zoya's wrist, inflicted because of him/handcuff but shields her when faced with the armed men in the jail. A man, whose eyes are filled with admiration for her when she looks away (last scene yesterday), is the true Asad Ahmed Khan.
A man, who hates his father and makes no bones about it, somewhere deep down craves for his father's unconditional love. His perpetual state of anger is a reflection of this conflict in his heart.
And now, this enigma is about to engulf Ms Zoya Farooqui into his potpourri of emotions. I know he is not going to show his true emotions. He will hurt Zoya but will hurt himself ten times over. Either he will torture himself or worse become colder towards her.
Aah...only if he would open his heart and let it all out.
