Zoya is like a breath of fresh air when compared to other female leads.I honestly find it really annoying when female leads stammer for every goddamn thing and act all coy and submissive. She is messy and a little interfering. But am glad she is not perfect. Am desperately hoping they dont make her a docile sacrificing bahu in future😊

I get that some don't like her messy ways, and the way she's always stepping on Dilshad-Asad-and Najma's toes. But honestly, that just makes her more endearing. She doesn't act like a proper guest, she acts like they are really her family. There's an apnapan to her behaviour that I'm sure is the reason why Dilshad and Najma like her so much.
Even Asad, after having yelled at her for stupid reasons, feels bad right away. Because they all know Zoya is very well-intentioned and quite harmless.

I love her character, and I find her behaviour completely acceptable. I know its unfair to label people as taking part in regressive thinking. But when you think about it, why does her lack of guest-like etiquette bother us so? Its almost unheard of for a girl to behave that way. And its because of the some of the questionable values and norms we've had hammered into our heads by society (and sometimes our own families). This type of thinking its a consequence of paternalism, whether we admit it or not.

I struggle with on a day to day basis as well. Every time guests come over, I go into a giant dilemma about how much time I have to spend sitting with them, and if I for some reason, am not in the room when my mom starts to make chai (cuz thats supposed to be my job right?), then I feel horrible. I start to think that people will think bad of my parents if I don't behave perfectly.
And you know what? Its about damn time this type of self-doubt and holding oneself to unreasonable and quite unnecessary standards stop.

I DON'T HATE HER SHE IS FUN, SHE REMIND ME A LOT OF MY SISTER MOST OF THE TIMES I WANT TO KILL HER BECAUSE SHE IS SO MESSY BUT ON THE OTHER HAND SHE IS KIND N FUN TO HAVE AROUND.
I LOVE THIS CHARACTER, BUT THE ONLY PROBLEM I HAVE WITH HER IS THAT SOMETIMES SHE NEEDS TO TONE IT DOWN A LITTLE.

Charishma,

I can say with complete certainty that her lack of guest-like behavior does not bother me because she is a girl. It bothers me because if I were hosting her I wouldn't like an outsider overstepping my privacy or dirtying my house, be it a guy or a girl. I'm stating my dislike of this aspect of her (I do absolutely love her over all) despite not being the chai-making kinda girl. I'm not a rebel but I hardly follow the chai banao, serve the guests and sit on the side with your mouth glued shut rule of the conservative, paternalistic desi society. I'm a little offended that you are classifying those of us who don't like messy guests (not messy "girls") as regressive.

I love the fact that she is confident, bubbly, loud, always laughing and I love the fact that she had the guts to stand up for herself during her wedding. I dislike her disregard of cleanliness in a guests house and her constant interference such as always going into Asad's room (and again, not because he's a guy but because he's her host and he is entitled to privacy if he desires it).

For example, flirts like Ayaan roam Indian roads dime a dozen. Its almost considered a norm for guys to have a roving eye. A regressive minded person would find his flirtatious ways acceptable coz 'that's how guys are/larka hai chalta hai'. But you know what...I absolutely dislike Ayaan, if not despise him, for his flirtatious ways despite how typical they are.

Every person have right to decide whether he/she like or dislike the character. So you're no one to question someone's maturity on that basis. Just because you like her character, doesnt necessarily mean that other people have to be fond of same character.
Now back to topic, i'm glad she's not one of those goody-goody character we see all the time on tv. BUT, i still find her OTT. Even 10 year old kid know how to behave when you're mere guest at someone's house 😊
and such little things are huge turn off for me. Hence, i dislike her character.
and you don't have to get all worked up if someone dislike/hate her character, its a normal thing lol. Every person have different preferences. Have i questioned your blind love for zoya or any other character? No!

I LOVE Zoya! She is different from other female characters because she seems more real than reel. Zoya isn't goody goody, submissive perfect bahu material and it's refreshing to watch. But let's not forget her heart which is free from ill will towards other.

I adore Zoya. She brings so much LIFE into each episode. She is different and I like it.

She can be childish but she can also be very mature and sensitive.

She is completely different from ALL the other female characters on the show and for that I am grateful.

And the actress plays her perfectly.

@ Charishma ..brilliant post ...you know I always find it surprising that women themselves are so intolerant of a slight deviation from a "perfect woman" prortrayal...
women should have no imperfections ..how dare she be so loud ... a little messy ...how can she be?//
a little sense of humour??? oh she is OTT..
i really wonder about these women in real life ..are they really so staright jacketed as they want drama heroines to be
I have always liked 4 Lion Heroines... but I absolutely love Zoya ..because I identify with her completely, even though I am not a Muslim ..she is in true essence the modern woman
she is perfect representation with all her imperfections..
because real human beings have imperfections
when people say they hate her ...i really do not understand this ..

i don't hate her... everything looks gud when they r in limits... over comedy or over romance or over drama is not alwayz acceptable... the cv's shud make her grow up... like.. how can a normal person living wid his family is JAMES BOND .. lolz ... does it happen... n that nicole (something like dat) fiasco.. it was quite childish... otherwise her background story is quite gud... she's searching her father.. cv's shud show some progress in her search.. than making her a joke.
