There's family bonding, there are emotions, there's modernity and there's mystery! The show is complete package
Ekta Kapoor is out with yet another family drama, Pyaar Ko Ho Jaane Do, that stars Mona Singh and Iqbal Khan in the lead. The show that'll air on Sony TV at 9 pm from Monday to Friday, premiered yesterday. I caught the first episode of the show and found it very promising. It might just be the next Bade Achhe Lagte Hain. Anyway, here's the full review of the episode...
The story revolves around the perfect couple, Ishaan Hooda (Iqbaal Khan) and Preet Hooda (Mona Singh). Ishaan loses his parents when he was very young and was brought up by his uncle like his own son. In fact not just the uncle, his aunt and cousins too think of him the same way and love him unconditionally. Ishaan in return loves them selflessly, putting their needs and happiness ahead of him. And so does his wife, who's now the backbone of the family. Despite all of this, there is something amiss between Ishaan and Preet. They talk to each other, they care for each other, they even have a daughter whom they both adore, but despite all of this, the two share a very awkward chemistry. While Preet doesn't mind all this because she believes that her husband is a gem and blindly trusts him, Ishaan does have a dark secret that he's kept hidden from the whole world. What that secret is and how the couple will overcome their differences is something to look out for.
What's hot?
After a series of saas-bahu dramas set in small towns with a torturous in-laws and a bechari daughter-in-law, Ekta Kapoor's modern-day family drama with the couple taking centre stage comes as a very pleasant and much needed change. And the fact that every actor fits the part he's playing just makes it so much more appealing. Micky Ahuja as the strict, yet understanding father figure, Mansi Sharma as the career oriented daughter, Jyothi D Tommaar as the loving mother are all living the characters aptly. Of course, Iqbal Khan and Mona Singh are the shining stars. While Iqbal's portrayal of an adarsh beta is very touching, Mona looks very relatable as the bubbly, getting-along-with-everyone kind of daughter-in-law. The two also manage to make their awkwardness believable. The fact that all the characters were quickly established without much dilly dally-ing, was an added bonus and also paced up the story. Also the characters seem to share a very comfortable rapport with each other which truly makes them look like a family. Unlike, most shows, this one did not take ages to give you something to look forward to. There was ample drama in the first episode itself which ended on a note that'll definitely make you switch on your TV set tonight again. I, at least, would want to figure out what is this big secret that is keeping Ishaan from being as good a husband as he is a son, a brother and a father.
What's not?
There wasn't much to dislike, at least as of now, but there were a few minor things that could be avoided for a better impact like Ishaan proving that his uncle is nothing short of God for him. Okay so we get it, you worship him, but to repeatedly pick fights with people who so much as look at your uncle and saying "Yeh mere bade papa hain" every 5 minutes is not really necessary. Then there's Mona's bubbly-ness that went a little over the top in a few places, but it is easily avoidable, given that she's otherwise doing a good job. The biggest disappointment of the show, however, is the background music. The one thing that you always expect from an Ekta show is a catchy tune that stays with you for a very very long time. But that won't happen this time around. No it's not because the music is bad, but because no one went through the pain of making one... the background tune is picked from one of Ekta's previous show, Ghar Ek Mandir and a couple of other Bollywood tunes.
What to do?
If a show can get you hooked in one episode itself, it has got to have some potential. For those who are sick of the really regressive, small town dramas with a saree clad abla naari, you are absolutely going to love it. In fact, it might just be the next BIG thing on TV.
