It was a bright sunny morning. I took aunt to the hospital for her check up. alina called me and asked me if I wanted to go shopping with her. I said I was busy at the hospital. She told me that she was near the hospital so I decided to meet her. I checked on aunt and told her I'd be back within an hour. I met alina in the coffee shop. She was alone.
"Hey how are you? And how is Ms. dobrial? She asked.
"Doctors are examining her, it usually takes 2 hours."
"Okay. By the way, did you enjoy the party last night?" alina asked.
"Yeah, it was great. I had a wonderful time."
"Till you're here you can hangout with us" she said with a smile.
"Thanks a lot" I replied.
We ordered coffee.
"Ms. dobrial always talks about you. She is very fond of you. She told me you want to study Literature." alina asked me.
"Aunt always treated me like her own daughter. She encouraged me to take Literature; she knew how much I love reading." I said smiling.
"I don't like reading much. I mean it's not that I don't read at all. I read Vogue, Cosmo and I love Nancy Drew."
"Oh that's great!" I fall short of words.
"You know I am more of an artist. So I took Fashion Designing. I love designing clothes and I wish to be a model too." alina said with lot of excitement.
"That's cool. I hope you'd give me some discount on your clothes once you become a top designer."
"Of course I would." She said and we both laughed.
I suddenly realized that it was getting late.
"I have to take your leave now alina. Aunt must be waiting for me." I said.
"Oh wait for few more minutes." I nodded. "How do you know Abhay?" she asked inquisitively.
"I saw him at a cafe and then I officially met him at a book shop."
"Oh, so you two are friends now or what?"
"No, we're not friends. I don't even know him properly so how can we be friends."
"Abhay is my brother's friend. He is a nice guy but he loves to play around. If you know what I mean." She said raising her eyebrow.
"I think I know what you mean." I said assuring her.
"Do you have a boyfriend?" she asked curiously.
"No, I am single at the moment."
"That's great I know some really hot guys that I can set you up with."
"Oh no…no. I am not ready for anything right now." I said.
"Well whenever you're ready." She said smilingly.
I took her leave and went straight to the hospital but I couldn't find aunt. I asked one of the doctors and they told me that she has left. I tried to call her but her phone was switched off. I rushed towards home. I knocked at the door and was shocked to see the person who opened it. It was Abhay!
"Please come in" he said with his charming smile.
"What are you doing here and where's my aunt?" I asked entering the house.
"Relax. She is upstairs in..." I did not care to listen to the full sentence and rushed upstairs.
I entered the room without knocking. "Where did you disappear? Doctor told me you left and your phone was turned off." I asked anxiously.
"She…." Said Abhay entering the room.
What are you doing here? I interrupted him.
"Will you please let me explain?" he was annoyed.
I turned my face to Aunt. "You know I was so worried."
"I am sorry honey doctor told me I could go and I knew you went shopping with alina so I didn't want to disturb you. I forgot the phone here." she explained to me.
"And her car broke down I was passing by and I saw her so I offered her a ride home." explained Abhay.
I turned around to look at him.
"Yes, he's a really nice boy, at first I was reluctant but then he told that me he know you." said aunt.
"Yes, we both know each other very well." said Abhay smirking.
"You need to rest. I am downstairs if you need me." I said to aunt closing the door.
"No need to thank me. It was my pleasure." he smirked.
"What do you want?" I asked folding my hands.
"From you? nothing." he smirked again.
"Are you doing this purposely?'Cause if you're then let me make one thing very clear to you, I know people like you." I frowned.
"Really you do? Then tell me, what "kind" of a person am I?" he asked furiously and leaned on me.
"I would not like to see your face again." I said raising my eyebrow.
"That's not the answer of my question." he frowned.
"Thank you for helping my aunt." I said showing him the door.
"You know what your problem is?" I could see he was furious.
"I don't want strangers to tell me that." I said rolling my eyes.
"Your problem is that you are scared of yourself." he said pointing his finger at me and then left banging the door.
I didn't see him for a week. He didn't even come to alina's barbecue party.
One evening when I was returning home, I saw him standing by the bridge, he had a stern expression on his face. I was gazing at him in awe. Then I realized that I have to reach home. I decided to walk past him without drawing his attention on me. I was walking quietly but destiny had other plans. Suddenly my phone started ringing and he turned around.
"Well hello" He was smiling like a devil that he was. I liked him more when he was quiet.
"Hey" I said with a faint smile.
"How have you been?" he asked coming towards me.
"I've been good."
"And how is your aunt now?"
"She's fine, thanks."
We stood in awkward silence for a few moments.
"Thanks for that day" I said nervously.
He smiled and said "It's okay."
"It's okay? Technically you should say you're welcome."
He laughed. "I know you're not actually thanking me. You're apologizing to me."
I tried to speak but I fall short of words.
"You're temperamental, aren't you?" he grinned.
"I should go now." I said.
"Can I walk you home?" he asked. I nodded.
We were walking in silence and none of us was saying a word.
"What do you do?" I asked breaking the silence.
"Well, I am in Law School." he sighed.
"Really?"
He laughed, "What did you think? That I dropped out of school and joined some gang."
"Well, not exactly." I grinned.
"You see I am not what you think I am" he winked.
"I'll keep that in mind." I said.
Then we reached home. "Would you like to come in?" I asked.
"Do you want me to?" he smirked. "I am afraid I can't come in. I have some important work to do. You say Hi to your aunt."
I was relieved.
"Sure." As I turned towards the door he approached me again, "Are you busy tonight?" he asked.
I turned back and tried to read his mind through his eyes. "I am afraid I am." I said.
"I had a feeling you would say that." He said with disappointment on his face.
"I wanted to take you to my friend's party. alina is also coming."
"Ahh.." he cut me short. "You will love it there. I mean come on you need a break too. And I promise I will behave myself."
I couldn't help but smile.
"Okay." I sighed.
"Really? Great! I'll pick you up at 7." He said with a big smile.
"See ya."
At 6.50 the door bell rang, I opened it.
"Beautiful!" he exclaimed.
"Hey" I replied.
"Hey, you're looking beautiful."
"Thanks."
We walked towards his car.
It was a huge party. Abhay introduced me to his friends. I was looking for alina and I finally found her at the bar.
"Hey alina."
"pia" she shouted and gave me a tight hug. I guess she had too much of vodka.
"So Abhay brought you here, eh?" she said taking another vodka shot.
"Yeah."
"I didn't want to come here, I had other plans you see. But he insisted me to come for you." She said
"For me?" I asked.
"Yeah, he said you'd agree to come with him if I am here."
"Oh! Okay." I replied.
"He knows you don't trust him."
I didn't know what to say.
"Can you see that girl over there with Abhay?" she asked
"Yeah."
"She is panchi, his ex girlfriend.She is such a bitch you know."
"She must be his soul mate then." I smirked.
"Don't be rude! She manipulated him and cheated on him." alina replied.
Then I saw Abhay gazing at me, he excused himself and came towards us.
"Oh you're here" he said to alina
"Yep, you know I can't refuse you."
He smiled.
"Hey are you okay?" he asked me.
"Yeah, I am fine."
"Let's dance." He took me to the dance floor.
When we were dancing together I saw panchi staring at me several times. I ignored her. Someone requested a slow romantic song. I felt a hand on my back and then someone pulled me, it was Abhay. He was looking deep into my eyes and then I let him lead me. We were swinging to the music, he got so close that I could feel his breath on my neck and it was a strange feeling. After the dance got over I saw a strange expression on his face.
"Hey." An unknown voice said.
I turned around, it was panchi. She was staring me down.
"Won't you introduce me to your new friend, Abhay?" she asked.
"Yeah, pia she is panchi my….my friend and panchi she is pia, alina's friend."
I glanced at him.
"alina's friend, eh?"
"She is here for the holidays." He further explained.
"Oh I am sure you will have a great time here." She grinned.
"I hope so too." I said.
