History was repeating itself. I was being ditched by the man, I loved just like my mother. "What am I going to tell mom?" I questioned myself. Sitting down on the floor near my bed, images of past flashed before my eyes. I sought answers but in vain. Surrendering myself to my ill fate, I wept... wept for Abhay. He said he loved me but maybe it was another infatuation for him. I was more depressed about not seeing him ever again than I was about our break up. Imagining life without him in it was futile. His behavior was unfathomable. The trauma and the sobbing exhausted me enough and without even realizing when, I slept on the floor.
I woke up with a knock at the door. My head was aching like someone hammered it all night. Somehow, I got up and reached to the door. I found aunt looking at me inquisitively as I opened the door.
"Are you all right honey?" She asked observing my countenance.
"I am all right. I'll meet you in 15 minutes," I answered shutting the door abruptly as I couldn't hold on to my tears. I stood there crying for few minutes and then went to the bathroom to get ready.

"Everything's okay pia?" Aunt asked me once again as we were having breakfast on the table.
"Mmm hmm," I answered with a fake smile.
"Invite Abhay for the dinner, honey," she suggested out of the blue.
"Umm... I don't think that's a good idea. He... umm... he has some work tonight I guess," I lied vainly.
"Don't worry, I'll talk to him," said Aunt sipping the juice.
"Yeah, but not today." As I said this aunt looked at me suspiciously.
After finishing our breakfast we went to the hospital for aunt's therapy. Sitting on the chair outside aunt's room I kept staring at my phone in the hope that Abhay will call me but it never happened. After a while, aunt came out of the room with a smile on her face which was quite unusual.
"Hey there, are you feeling okay?" I asked.
"Of course I am," she said with a bright smile which made me forget my own sorrows for a moment and she continued, "There's a good news honey. I just talked to Abhay after I got done with the therapy. I invited him and he agreed to come tonight. Isn't that great?" She said chuckling.
"He agreed?" I asked with tears filled in my eyes.
"Yes, he did sweetheart," she said patting my cheek.
All throughout the drive back home, aunt kept talking about the dinner preparations asking me all sorts of questions about his likes and dislikes regarding food and even though I managed to keep up with her, inside I was still thinking about the consequences of seeing him tonight.

Aunt and I prepared the dinner before I went into my room and got ready to face my ex-fiance. I wore purple dress and tied my hair in a ponytail keeping in my mind that he preferred me, when I let my hair loose. I came downstairs to check once again on dinner preparations before I called aunt. Aunt Madhu looked graceful in her white attire. As we were talking the door bell rang and I knew it was him. I waited in the hope that aunt will open the door as I didn't want to face him but much to my dismay, I was given the opportunity to welcome him as she engaged herself in some other work.
So many thoughts hovered my mind as I approached the door and opened it. It was indeed Abhay. He stood there with a bottle of wine in his hands along with a bouquet of flowers. He looked at me with an expressionless face. I gestured him to come in and he obliged.
Meanwhile aunt came out of the kitchen and welcomed him smilingly, "Welcome son," she said hugging him and I thought in my heart that he doesn't deserve to be your son.
"You're looking lovely tonight Ms. dobrial," Abhay complimented her and didn't give me a second look.
He presented her the bouquet and handed me the bottle of wine. We all sat for dinner. There was an awkward silence between me and Abhay and aunt seemed to have noticed it.
"When are you both planning to get married?" Asked aunt. This question seemed like a slap on my face. Abhay looked at me for an answer but I turned my face away.
"Very soon," he answered with a fake smile.
"Such a liar," I thought to myself.
"This is delicious Ms. dobrial," he said eating the chicken, "My mom used to cook exactly like this."
"It's not me who should be praised for cooking it. pia made it," as she said. At this Abhay looked at me with surprise and said thanks with a smile. I however didn't respond in any way.
After dinner we all set down in the living room to have a drink. I never take alcohol, so I had coke instead. Aunt asked all sorts of questions to Abhay making sure that he was the right guy for me. After the chit chatting, she retired to her room leaving us on our own.
"Thank you so much Ms. dobrial for inviting me to the dinner," said Abhay.
"Thanks for coming son it was a lovely evening indeed. I am happy to see that my little pia has finally found her true love."
My heart squealed inside. "True love? Ha!" I thought to myself.
"I should leave you both alone now," said aunt going to her room.
There was an awkward silence for few moments until Abhay walked towards the door.
"Wait!" I said aloud.
He stopped and turned around.
"You're forgetting something," I said folding my hands.
"What?" He asked coming towards me.
I took out the ring from my finger and gave it to him, "You forgot this," I turned around to go back to my room.
He grabbed my arm to stop me, "You're kidding right?"
"Am I? No, I damn serious Abhay. I am not like you who take relationships as a joke. All this while you tricked me into believing that you actually loved me and wanted me. But now that you finally had me you changed your mind."
"Is this what you think about me pia?"
"This is what you are Abhay. You're having second thoughts about me." I said bursting into tears.
"Please pia, please. Don't cry honey," he said holding me but I shrugged him away. "No, stay back. Don't you dare touch me? You've humiliated me. I loved you Abhay and this is how you have rewarded me?"
"I only said all those things because I thought I was not the right person for you. God knows I've made several mistakes in my life and when I look myself in the mirror all I see is the shadow of my past that questions me every time if I am worth being with you."
"This self realization never occurred to you before our engagement," I snapped.
"I always thought about it ever since I saw you. I used to ask myself if I even deserve you. After all who want to be with a murderer?"
"Enough. Just leave. It's over now," I said showing him the door. He tried to talk but I quickly rushed upstairs.

In the morning I found flowers and a card at my doorsteps. It was a sorry card from Abhay. "He's so lame," I said throwing the card on the ground and turned back to get inside the house.
"Yes, I am," a voice said from behind and it didn't take me seconds to realize that it was Abhay, himself.
"You're pathetic Abhay," I said turning back, "First you tell me that you love me, and then you propose me in front of so many people. Then you break my heart and tell me that you don't deserve me. And now... this. What? What are you trying? Is this some sort of game for you?"
"I know, I've got issues but I only told you what I felt. I never said I don't love you... I just felt you deserve someone better."
"So be it. I'll find someone else," I said closing the door behind me and I still regret saying that 'Cause right after that moment everything changed for the worse.

It was in the evening when I was taking a walk in the garden when alina came and told me, "Is everything okay between you and Abhay? I... I just saw him kissing panchi."
