Yes, even i realized in times when we barely got to see them both onscreen that this attachment has gone beyond just fiction. its not obsession, its finally finding a tale to hold on too with the whole existence ,involuntary as u say. Irony is ofcourse, that happened with the minimum screenspace they have.

I guess thats the power they posses together onscreen. some sensible creatives out there should really witness this.
