Abhay- Piya : Gearing for the Inevitable Dishoom 'Dishoom
" Don't keep secrets from me, come what may."
" Trust in me , Abhay. Tell me the truth. I can handle it. Please believe in me, will you?"
" If there is anything that you are hiding from me about Siddharth or anybody else , TELL ME NOW. And later , dare you gimme that I-was-only-trying-to-protect-you crap. I will not buy it."
In these few angry sentences of an irritated , flustered , headstrong girlfriend, Piya delivered the upcoming bitter possibilities of the future to Abhay. She , unconsciously warned him that there is no space for secrets between them ' that Abhay's stone walled I-do-as-I-please attitude will endanger her trust in him ' that she wants to be in love with a man , not an enigma. Piya forewarned Abhay that no metter how much she loves him , it's a relationship of equals.
And Abhay? Is he heeding these warnings? Does it even once strike him that he comes across as a possessive unreasonable boyfriend suffocating her space when he is only trying to shield her against the hellish fate that Siddharth is baking for her? In his bid to PROTECT Piya, SAVE Piya , does he tend to forget that Piya has a mind that works, works with sudden intelligence and aggression when it comes to him? Is he being unjust to Piya by keeping her in darkness about almost everything juts because he thinks she will not be handle to any of it?
Abhay is on horse-blinders where he is more of a bodyguard than a man in relationship due to the supernatural situation. In a bid to guard Piya against himself, herself and Sid ' Abhay has not had the time to even think that his wall-like attitude is confusing and frustrating this 17+ year old. And this refusal to open Pandora's Box to Piya is snowballing into such an avalanche that the likes of Siddharth are gonna ride high on it and stick out their tongues to Abhay.
Today's fight over Sid was just a trailor of how frustrated Piya is over Abhay's thick-headed biased and illogical disdain for Sid. It was just a trailor of Abhay's , in a way , self-imposed frustrated helplessness in trying to hold on to Piya while she hops around like a tigress fighting for Individuality Rights Of A Girlfriend.
The big episode on 7th May , as we saw in the promo ( maha-epi sounds TACKY, always, ewww)'..Siddharth will play his trumpcard , using Abhay's secret against him and revealing to a confused and horrified Piya that her darling Abhay is not her protector but her predator who has sparked her veins with his blood. There goes our Sid darling.
Whatcha gonna do, Abhay? This is Check and Mate.
Abhay was , Abhay is prepared for the future. He has often voiced it that he knows Piya will come to know sooner or later what he has done to her. As he has done for a 100+ years , he is prepared to be the long suffering accused and abused monster ( have I told you how much I hate self-confessed willing martyrdom ) and finally have his dream of Piya hating the very sight of him fulfilled so that he can trot off into the dark and maybe meet Spike, Angel, Stefan, Damon and Klaus for drinks! But''is Abhay prepared to HANDLE it?
What are we going to see? Total rewind of Abhay's character development ? Will he again go and just sleep on Maithli's grave and maybe accuse and blame himself for the 999999999999999999th raised to power infinity for not just Piya's half-vampy bloodline but bloody all the troubles in the world which may include even the breaking of T's fingernail. He will remind himself for the zillionth time that he deserves nothing but wrath , hatred and darkness? That how he has ruined Piya's life and basically screwed everything?
It makes your brain delirious and makes you feel like lining up all the rude-to-Abhay 'characters and shooting them when you see that no matter how hard he tries, no matter what he does , no matter to what limits he goes for everyone ' he is just damned to be boiled in the cauldron of ill luck. Ughs.
Piya?
Well, what about Piya? She is a 17 year old kid in love with a vampire and still coming to grips with her love life, her family life ' she is a FALLIBLE HUMAN BEING. Unless she has some supernatural sainthood in her , or some sudden hybrid maturity injection injected into her , it is unreasonable to expect Piya to UNDERSTAND Abhay or his situation or even try and comprehend that why he bit her and changed her life forever.
It is unfair to expect Piya to find reason in Abhay's action of vampire-iziing her. She cannot do a tap dance in happiness ' jump into Abhay's lap and kiss him , singing "My hero". Piya has exceptional strength and perseverance but she cannot be expected to understand the supernatural or delve into its darkness. For her, its plain and simple that Abhay BETRAYED her , HURT her , RUINED her and toyed with her like a plaything . Remember that Piya's entire foundation is about to shake and she cannot be expected to keep standing.
On an objective level, if Piya ends up hating Abhay for the betrayal, we may go after her life counting the innumerable times that Abhay has kept her alive and cocooned her. But then, isn't that the law of the mortal world? One BAD cancels out the 99 GOODS. It will be a little unfair to expect Piya to act divine. I don't know if she deserves to react but then, isn't it obvious that she will react?
So, here come the inevitable Dishoom-Dishoom where Piya and Abhay will lose each-other once again. Just because Abhay did not trust Piya's strength and Piya did not trust Abhay. Nobody is at fault , really. Its just that their story is twisted . Really twisted.
As I close this post , here are a few notes for Abhay and Piya.
Abhay , you are not a martyr. You are not a scapegoat . You are not everyone's punching bag. You don't have to be a sponge and just take everything and not even utter a cry. Why do you have to be such a mountain , such a handkerchief , such a shoulder to cry on for everyone? Why is it always about saving Piya and saving others? Why is it never about you? Why do you live with the delusion that whatever happens to anyone and everyone is either your fault or you have to go and make everything good? The world is not on your shoulders and you are not Atlas. Get out of this rut. You deserve to be happy , Abhay . More than anyone else in this story ( yes, including Piya).It is you who needs to be released from this life of damnation . Why everything has to be about Piya? Its you as well, Abhay. YOU.
Piya, maybe you will never understand Abhay and his density. Nobody does, actually. Sometimes even the creatives who have made him , get baffled by him and fail to find a way out. But there is something that you have always trusted , even when you and him were not together ' your heart. I hope , tomorrow, when you find out the truth of Abhay's betrayal , you are able to listen to your heart no matter what the voices say outside or in your head. Follow your heart and you will find your answers without Abhay having to say a single word in his defence. You are his hope, Piya. Don' t send him back to the shadows. Save him.
