Garden, Sambhav's House.
Piya is sitting on a bench in the garden of Sambhav's mansion. It is a beautiful British garden set up with Primroses , marble statues of monsters that strangely look beautiful in sculpted art. There is a lovely pond with green water and a swarm of coloured fish running around under water. Piya likes the whole feel of the garden. Her own colour matches the flowers in the garden – the colour that Abhay's kiss has lent her skin. Piya looks happy and all lighted up. Even though the yellow lamps of the garden illuminate Piya's profile , her face has it's own glow.
Piya ( touching the pink roses )- Sambhav sure has a love for roses – it's roses all over the garden. I don't see any other flower. And Abhay…..
Flash : Abhay screaming at Piya upon seeing roses that she sent to him to apologize to him.
Piya ( her face falls )- Abhay hates the sight of these flowers because they bring memories of Maithli running back to him. He must have loved her so much once upon a time. ….( thinks )… and me. Where do I stand in his life…
Flash: Abhay pulling her into his arms and kissing her. Hugging her and letting her know how scared he was that he could lose her.
Piya ( smiles )- I guess I will just die in the wait of hearing it from him that he loves me.He is never going to say it but i know…..that he loves me , in his own peculiar way and that is the hope that keeps me alive….
Just then, she hears the clicking sound of a woman's heels and a whiff of vanilla and roses fills the air. Piya recognizes it – just like Abhay's cinnamon and balsam, Haseena had this characteristic scent of vanilla and roses. It was Haseena and as Piya slowly turned to see , her guess was bang on. It was Haseena . Tall, lissome , stunning , draped in black and glittering with her favourite diamonds.
Piya ( taken aback)- Aunty….
Haseena ( leaning over the bridge crossing the green pond )- Thank you.
Piya – For what?
Haseena – For keeping Abhay alive until help reached him. Your blood mitigated the effect of Huraan that Tanushree put into his blood. We owe it to you.
Piya ( feeling awkward in Haseena's presence )- I couldn't have left him, aunty. I did what anyone would have done.
Haseena ( shakes her head )- Correction. You did what anyone would have done WHO LOVED Abhay.
Piya doesn't say anything and looks down.
Haseena ( looks at her )- Putting yourself at the risk of being mauled by a hungry and wounded vampire. You did it. Because you love him. Strangely, what I hate the most about you has helped save Abhay's life. So, I have no right to snarl and pounce at you.
Piya ( disheartened )- You worry for nothing, aunty. I love Abhay and I won't hide it. But Abhay doesn't love me. We are connected but he has no romantic feelings for me. I think it is just my face that melts him towards me.
Haseena ( raising her eyebrows )- Maithli. Maithli's face. I know for sure that Abhay doesn't love Maithli anymore because his innocent Maithli never existed in the first place. But he is not over her. And I am afraid that he is looking for that imaginative Maithli in you because you are a good soul.
Piya looks hurt at this and tears well up in her eyes.
Piya – You mean , he doesn't see me as Piya? I am the Maithli that Maithli faked?
Haseena ( shrugs her shoulders )- To be honest , I don't know, Piya. And no, I don't want to know. For me, Maithli is over and done with . And you do not have the permission to love Abhay. I cannot allow that to happen. If Abhay falls in love with you, you have no idea to the lengths of madness that he can go to.
Piya ( looks sad )- IF. That is where it all starts and ends. But why do you say that , aunty? I know I am a human being and he is a vampire. That I will die and go away one day while he is forever. But I do love him – against reason, against logic , against my own existence , I do. I will never hurt him…..
Haseena( strongly )- Don't be an emotional fool, Piya! You will never hurt him – he may never hurt you but if you both get together , everyone – all our enemies will get together to hurt you and us. You will be the hostage and Abhay the price! And there is nothing for you in this dark fairytale except danger and death!
Piya looks shocked at Haseena's outburst. Haseena comes close to Piya and puts a hesitant hand on her shoulder.
Haseena – Look Piya. I am not your enemy – I am not Abhay's enemy. But I know the future even before you both can think of it. I don't want history repeating itself . 200 years ago , Abhay lost himself to Maithli and we all suffered. And we are on the same crossroads again – the only difference being that this time the girl he can fall for is as real and as beautiful as the Maithli he once loved.
Piya ( defeated )- What do you want me to do, aunty? Loving Abhay is beyond my controls and limits. …( helplessly)….if there was a way to stop it , I would do it myself. It is a torture to hear from him everyday that he is not going to love me. That he is going to get up and walk out of my life one dark day. What do I do, tell me.
Haseena ( looking into her eyes )- Do nothing. Just pray that you and Abhay never happen because if you both do the forbidden – I will be the first one to crash heaven and earth to pull you both apart. I am not Abhay's blood mother – but in my own cold, frigid way , I love my son. Whatever little emotion I am capable of , it is for Abhay.
With this Haseena walks away , leaving Piya heartbroken and shocked. Piya looks up at the window of the room where Abhay is. She keeps looking at the closed window and she no more has the heart to walk back into the mansion and see Abhay. She just turns and walks away with slumped shoulders , a heavy heart and tearful eyes – in the hope and despair that she, perhaps, is in love with an impossible dream.
Sambhav's room, Sambhav's house.
Abhay sees Piya walk out of the house and disappear into the dark road going down the hill from his window. His face is pensive and eyes speaking a volume of emotions that he can never verbalize. He takes a deep sigh and puts his palm on the glass from where he can see Piya's image receding into the dark. He moves his hand over the glass as though touching Piya. Then, he just closes his eyes and shakes his head. Now, dressed in a black vest and track pants, he looks normal and fine. It is impossible to tell that this handsome vampire got almost consumed by Huraan a few hours ago. However, one can read it on him that his heart is being consumed – even though he is not supposed to have a heart.
Abhay cannot stop thinking about the emotional moment between him and Piya when he had felt his non-existent heart lurch and kissed Piya on the lips and hugged her without a second thought. He could still feel her scent and touch of her lips on his face and he had not felt anything more real in the longest of time that he could recall.
Abhay ( thinking )- Silly stupid girl. She almost killed herself to keep me alive. She fed her blood to me knowing that I could kill her if the predator in me got out of hand. And she keeps harping that she loves me. Loves a blood sucking beast who is not even human….. ( irritated with himself and not her)…. How foolish can you get! And those eyes that she gives me. They make me want to go and hide somewhere! And the way her lips curl up when she tests and challenges me, I have this urge to just grab her pretty head and kiss her mouth shut!
He sits back in the bed in frustration.
Abhay ( bursting )- It is almost as if she throws it in my face everyday that I cannot stop her from loving me. That ….. that her resolve is strong enough to make me…. ( horrified at his own thoughts )……fall in love with her?
Just then, the door of his room swings open and Abhay's controversial old flame – the root of his emotional madness walks in – the signature seductive walk giving Abhay the idea about who has come visiting him. Abhay is too disturbed to act surprised because he is not.
Abhay ( rolls his eyes and tightens his jaw )- Maithli. It's you, right? Come into light , my friend. No use playing guessing games with me.
Maithli walks into the illumination of the lamps – wearing a cat suit and her silky rapunzel curls contrasting against her lovely but naughty face.
Maithli ( taking a chair )- Hello, my true love of 200+ years. Heard that Tanushree almost had you for supper before your darling nimble Piya gave you her blood and kept you alive to let Anushka do her hocus pocus on you.
Abhay ( looks at her rather unfeelingly )- Yeah, and thanks to my 'darling nimble Piya' and Anushka's hocus pocus saved me. Thank you for the visit , Maithli. You can go and create potions in some dark corner of this estate. Sam has a whole lot of property.
Maithli just keeps looking at Abhay with a tender expression in her eyes and a soft smile forming on her mouth. Abhay notices Maithli gazing at him and he narrows his ice blue eyes at her.
Abhay – Stop staring at me, Maithli. Mind games of witches don't work on me. My mind is my slave. Now, go.
Maithli ( touching Abhay's face and Abhay flinching away from her )- I know. If mind compelling worked on you , we would have been honeymooning in Bahamas by now.
Abhay ( getting away from Maithli )- Maithli. Just leave. How many times do I need to tell you that it is over. You and me are O.V.E.R.
Maithli gets up and tilting her head in her signature style , she puts her arms around Abhay's neck but Abhay puts a hand on her chest to keep her at a distance.
Maithli ( naughtily )- You can keep telling me that till the end of time, Abhay. And I will keep trying to get you back. You and me are not over and I won't let you get it over with…( holds Abhay's head )… it was always you and me. Abhay and Maithli.
Abhay's face softens and he blinks his eyes gently at Maithli's upturned face. He holds Maithli's arms and disengages himself from the necklock.
Abhay ( emotionally )- Don't do this to me, Maithli. And don't do this to yourself. You are not the woman I loved and I have accepted the truth. You and me are history and we are never going to happen. I don't want to hurt you, Maithli. Just go away – somewhere far. There is nothing for you here. NOTHING.
Maithli's face looks crestfallen as she hates to see what is there in Abhay's eyes. Her own eyes go moist and the evil grin on her face crumbles to something vulnerable.
Maithli ( touching his face )- Don't! Don't look at me with those eyes, Abhay. I don't want to see this …. This sympathy and regret in your eyes! Don't pity me! Love me.
Abhay ( shakes his head )- I can't show you what I don't have! Stop pushing it, will you?
Maithli ( gets possessive and obsessive )- I will push you, Abhay! Look at me with the eyes that you give Piya!
Abhay looks shell shocked at this and blinks his eyes at Maithli.
Abhay ( softened )- Piya…..
Maithli( screams and throws thing around )- YES! PIYA! Look at me the way you look at her! … ( shakes him by his shoulders )…. Touch me the way you touch her! Kiss me the way you kiss her! Take my name the way you take her name.
Abhay is stunned at Maithli's eccentric outburst and he has to literally hold her in place to calm her down.
Abhay ( calming her aggressively )- STOP IT! Just stop it, Maithli!... ( grabs her chin and forces her to look into his eyes )…. Listen to me! You are not 9 years old and I am not a toy. We are over and nothing is going to change that. You are special to me inspite of being the bitch and a half that you are but I am not in love with you anymore. Understand that. Accept that….( literally begging her)… don't turn me into an obsession , Maithli. I beg of you. You will destroy yourself!
Maithli ( stubbornly )- No. I will destroy everything! It's Piya, isn't it? You are not coming back to me because of that stupid teenager, right?
Abhay( chides her )- Don't touch her!
Maithli ( with a sadistic laughter )- Abhay, Abhay, Abhay! You really think you can stop me?
With this Maithli pushes Abhay away and stands up ,wiping tears from her blood shot eyes.
Maithli – Remember , Abhay. It is always you and me. And no Piya can change that.
Abhay ( pities her )- Maithli…. No….
Maithli just looks at Abhay and walks upto him. Against her torrid and passionate nature , she just bends over and kisses Abhay's cheek.
Maithli ( whispers into his ear )- To stop me , you have to kill me.
Abhay looks at her wide-eyed as she gives him a slow devilish smile and winking at him, goes out of the room. A helpless Abhay just growls in frustration and throws a lamp off the peg table with one clean sweep – Maithli's words haunt him even as the face that swims into his strained eyes is of Piya…
Maithli ( in Abhay's head )- Abhay and Maithli. It was always you and me.
