Everyone to a brand new

DISCUSSION OF THE WEEK

This week's main point is to discuss whether or not the two punjab's should be merged together or not? If some of you are not aware of what I am talking about there here is a brief history:

The British Punjab province, which includes present-day Punjab province of Pakistan, and the Indian states of Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh, was partitioned in 1947 between the newly-independent states of India and Pakistan.

Do you think both the Punjab's should be reuinted?

If yes, how will the people be affected?

How would the government be run and better yet who would run the government?

How will it affect the economy which is still suffering from the 1980-1990's militarism?

Please feel free to add more points to it and please don't end your discussion at the questions written above. They are only to help you guide your thoughts, you should not limit yourself to them.

Please remember to discuss with respect towards the nations and its people in question😊

Shukriya,

Punjabi Dev. Team

Usually there are three factors to consider; political, economic and cultural
I actually don't think that both the Punjabs should be reunited in political and economic terms. They are a part of two different countries, so then re-uniting them will mean they are part of which country? OR do you mean, a different country? Would the two countries, Pakistan and India be willing to let go of such a huge chunk of land?
There's tension enough with the whole Kashmir issue....
BUT culturally, Punjab will always remain united. Even though there is now a dividing line across it, Punjab is STILL Punjab! and Both Punjabs belong to us. Punjabis on both sides relate to the same things, feel connected with their land. It's ALL the same.
We're all Punjabis and i think we all realise that. and that's what matters the most. Where there are no divisions/barriers in one's heart.

If yes, how will the people be affected?

Well i answered no for the economic and political reasons. Come on, if we became one country...how impossible will that be? There are so many economic and political disadvantages. New infrastructure would need to develop, which leads to immense pressure on the system, and since it will be a new country...sooo many problems will exist. what about currency? trade relations? You will have to get a visa if you wanted to go to Delhi or something! LoL
How would the government be run and better yet who would run the government?
No idea. lol. where would the Capital be? In the past it was Lahore...but I'm guessin that will be contested by the people livin on the Indian side of Punjab.

How will it affect the economy which is still suffering from the 1980-1990's militarism?

Btw guys, Punjab is mostly agricultural...but right now, agriculture will not provide as much benefit as other industries. We need the other industries of the bigger countries with more resources.
Well i have mentioned bits and pieces about economics throughout this post. the militarism has not only been affecting the economy, but also the people in general. i think Punjab, both sides, just needs time to heal. We all love and relate to each other, and it doesnt matter about borders...coz inherently we're all the same. and we don't need a different country to feel that way.
Like that song by Hans Raj Hans, "Aei Punjab Vi Mera Hai, Oh Punjab Vi Mera Hai"
So, we're all from Punjab. We're all together. We're all One. Don't think we need to have a seperate country...coz well that is what you mean right? By re-uniting it?
Cheers!

@ bewafa you have taken the words right out of my mouth...I don't think anyone could have said this better
personally I think we should let the things be...too much blood has already been shed over the Khalistan issue I don't want more...as long as we have not partitioned our hearts we are still one... Punjabi's all ways!!
